The best part about that is he didn't even watch the movie, he just used a plot summary from somebody else and wrote the new lyrics. Hilariously nailing all the major plot points.

If you like the rooting tooting western aspect, may I suggest Cisco Houston? He was a folk singer and Wobbly troubadour from the depression era who sang a bunch of the old cowboy tunes
Nah, not my thing. What I like about these guys is the voice. The lyrics are just silly.
Ok fair, but Cisco has the most buttery smooth voice around! Not trying to convince you to like something you don't, just have to go to bat for the guy
I mean, he sounds like Woody Guthrie or Pete Seger. Not terrible, but not my first pick.

I think he's saying the whole song is meant as a criticism of the 60s counterculture and mourning the end of 50s America, and today's "wokism" is just an extension of the various sixties movements. He's nostalgic about driving his truck down to the sock hop with a pink carnation in his suit and then going down to drink with the "good ol' boys" at the levee. Now Lenin (Lennon) is reading Marx and everything is just too damn political! He directly calls out a bunch of the classic 60s counterculture songs.

I guess he has to try to pretend like the song is deeper than it really is, because otherwise he's gotta admit to himself that there are about three generations alive today who couldn't care less about The Day The Music Died.

I'm kinda shocked this guy's still alive.
Honestly, I learned about this song because of the Madonna cover like 25 years ago, and had no idea what it was about.
American Pie is one of those songs that would make me walk off to do odd tasks or take a bathroom break at work should it have popped up on the radio.
Who is this loser and why is he taking credit for a song that Madonna orginally wrote for the millennium to go with that one with all the green lasers?
