!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

If the forum allows NSFW it's most likely biased but I'm open for it.
Everything else prohibits NSFW.

I’m 39 years old, male, 198 cm tall, 120 kg weight. My BMI is 30.6 and it falls in the Obese Class I category; but I don’t feel “fat”? I also wouldn’t say I look obese; bulky? sure.

I understand that it is a switch to connect the battery to the sarter. But why not just make the ignition switch the actual switch?

Is it because the amps are high so the switch would be too big to comfortably use? Because if that is the case, wouldn't a simple mechanical solution be better?

I've heard several stories about couples that suddenly stop having sex, start snapping at each other for stupid bs, your girlfriend who was so sweet and supporting becomes her mother, a raging, yelling psychopath, looking for excuses to be passive aggressive, inviting her friends back home when all you want to do is rest after your workday, your boyfriend, so passionate about you is suddenly cold towards you and wants to be left alone. Before having a child you were inseparable, now it's like you hate each other and rant about your loved one with your friends...

I couldn't survive such a radical personality change.

Does this phase eventually runs its course?

How do you find the mental fortitude to ignore the stupid bs your partner does or says?

How would you describe love to your partner a year after having a baby?

Is there any way to know if you and your partner are going to make it and remain a couple after having a child?

I've heard multiple times that it's not okay to allow any food to go down the drain even with a garbage disposal, I guess because solids shouldn't go down the drain. But we put a shit ton of solids down the drain through the toilet and that seems to be fine. Does the toilet go to a different sewage pipe then the sink? Or does shit have different properties that make it dissolve better?

Nezha 2 had a budget of 80 million while Inside Out had a budget of 200 million. There are several other examples where Asian animations with a lower budget and with the same quality as American animations manage to achieve the same results or even be superior.

The biggest issue with generative AI, at least to me, is the fact that it's trained using human-made works where the original authors didn't consent to or even know that their work is being used to train the AI. Are there any initiatives to address this issue? I'm thinking something like an open source AI model and training data store that only has works that are public domain and highly permissive no-attribution licenses, as well as original works submitted by the open source community and explicitly licensed to allow AI training.

I guess the hard part is moderating the database and ensuring all works are licensed properly and people are actually submitting their own works, but does anything like this exist?

If you’re of age and it’s legal where you live, most people probably just go to the store and get high at home. But how does a socially awkward yet careful teen without those kind of friends get into it, if such people do? You have to know who to buy it from, and once you get it, how do you smoke it? If you live with your parents and are never home alone for more than several hours, you might not have enough time for a good high. And what about tripping in nature or at someone else’s house? You can’t just teleport there, you have to walk or drive, the latter of which is very dangerous, I would imagine as bad as driving drunk, just in a different way. So is a good dose of the devil’s lettuce basically unattainable for the victims of upper middle class suburbanite comfort?

I ordered a data-logger for a work-related project, Which comes with windows software and need admin priviledge (that I don't have due to corporate IT policies). So I lost 2h going to the IT department trying to get someone with admin right installing this driver :(

What's the reason hardware come mostly with Windows driver (rather than Linux) and why do these software/driver need admin privilege for installation where their customer base are professional who often don't have the right privilege on their PC ? Is there something technically forcing the privilege elevation to install a driver ?

The moderator told me questions like this aren't stupid and they're the point of this community.

I want an answer.

The title is a bit of an exaggeration.

Why do corporations change shampoo and toothbrushes so often? I'll go through 10 different shampoos and toothbrushes, then find ones I like. I'll probably be able to purchase them again a few times before the ones I like are no longer available.

What are the forces driving manufacturer's to change their basic wares so often? Besides Wall St. greed, that is?

An actual argument I recently saw:

Person B: "Any site which contains slurs against trans people in its sign up process is unreliable" (was referring to k!wifarms)

Person A: "Slurs aren't considered bad in most countries"

Person B: "That doesn't justify their usage. For example, conversion therapy isn't considered bad or banned in most countries, that doesn't mean conversion therapy is justified or good."

Person A: "What are you talking about? Conversion therapy is banned in most countries"

Person B: "Shows a diagram showing that conversion therapy is only banned in a handful of countries"

Person A: "I mean in most civilized countries"

I've seen lots of other people refer to countries as civilized or uncivilized in similar contexts. Is this generally considered to be racist?

Wondering if your typical/average/normie person (millennials and younger) know it or know about it. It’s enabled on reddit and discord?

They're two different tools with different purposes, so why treat one like it can replace the other?

Aside from the vowels a e i o u (which are special) and also the pseudo-vowel y, the rest of the consonants roughly split into a few kind of groups. The -ee endings (b, c, d, etc.) is the most common, but there is also e- (like s, l), -ay (like k), a- (like r). There's also some weird ones like q (kyu) and the worst offender is "double u" (w).

If the pronunciations of the consonants were standardised, what should be the new "standard" for pronouncing them? Should it be -ee, or something like -ay? How would the alphabet song sound?

Like, I feel like, books, its just a bunch of description that never truely paint a scene.

In a movie or TV show, you see exactly what the scene is, exactly what is happening. I mean, of course, sometime they cut corners and cut of parts of a book, but otherwise, its more easily conveyed.

Like the popular saying, a picture is worth a thousands words. But I'd say: a video is worth a million pictures.
