amerikkka should be banned from internacional sports

Quote tweet https://x.com/Altymcaltalt3/status/2074099592191234064

This red card business is just a microcosm of American cultural viewpoint that any act done by America is an innately righteous act because America does it

An awful despicable culture

Quote twet https://x.com/teroterotero/status/2073934858762506464

This is the default response to open corruption by most of American pundit class - Wiesenthal, Silver, etc. Detached, cynical quips. None of these people reacted to the massive scale of insider trading revealed just days ago. This is how a nation rots.

Thats not how it fucking works. You can't oopsie-daisy out of a red card

[-] Ophrys@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 days ago

Apparently you can

[-] PKMKII@hexbear.net 62 points 2 days ago

Very on-brand for Americans to come into a realm they normally pay little attention to and immediately start condescendingly talking down to everyone about it like they’re suddenly an expert.

you have to be an expert to have an opinion on the beautiful subtleties of 4-4-2 or 3-4-3.

Red card does not require malice what the fuck is he talking about

[-] GiantSpoonWielder@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 2 days ago

We've convened a panel and they'll take 1-3 years to gather information about Balogun's mental state and whether he acted with malicious intent during the event.

Cenk should stick to his lane normalizing transphobia and laundering imperialism.

[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Here's some nice cope (in lack of a better word) from the post-match belgium thread

[-] agentant@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

Mourning might be a more apt term.

[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

Thanks! I was looking for a better word now that 'coping' has taken on certain connotations.

[-] agentant@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

"Mourning" isn't great word for it either but now that I actually need to think of a better term, I cannot :skull:

[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

Grief maybe

The US supports Israel to the hilt, is starving Cuba and is threatening to exterminate Iranian civilization. If you're cheering for them at the World Cup, it's the equivalent of a German cheering for their country at the 1936 olympics.

shaking my head conspicuously at the bar when Balogun drains it on a breakaway so everyone knows i disapprove of the Brett Kavanaugh's concurrence in Trump v. Barbara.

[-] MarxusMaximus@hexbear.net 46 points 2 days ago

Cenk genuinely thinks that the difference between a yellow card and a red card in football is the same as the difference between manslaughter and murder in the burger legal system because that's how bad his Dick Wolf-induced brain rot is.

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Dick Wolf-induced brain rot.

I think i would need an explanation for this part

[-] MarxusMaximus@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

Dick Wolf is the creator of the Law & Order television franchise and therefor the father of every American misunderstanding law.

Looks like some seriously massive copaganda block. Also, this dude name is really Dick Wolf?

[-] Juice@midwest.social 24 points 2 days ago

Wasn't Cenk vocally "concerned" about trans athletes? I'm not really a sports guy, and haven't watched even an instant of these Olympics, but any consideration on his opinion re: unfair advantages in sports begins and ends with his shit views of trans athletes.

[-] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Both Cenk and Ana have been throwing trans people under the bus, and revealed themselves to be massive opportunists who spout reactionary garbage on their shitty "progressive" show.

It's fine when it benefits us!

The rallying cry of the dastard

[-] batsforpeace@hexbear.net 26 points 2 days ago

yup I consulted the rules based international football order charter and it says studs to leg are ok if no malice detected

[-] Monk3brain3@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago

I'm going to be very deep lol and ask is it even possible to have fair sporting competition under capitalism. I used to enjoy cricket but the advantage the financially well off countries have over the poor countries has made the sport essentially a dead/dying sport. Despite the governing bodies surprisingly forward thinking approach (with one exception) to growing the sport.

If anyone cares about the one exception (you probably shouldn't tbh lol), this was the popularization of a new shorter format of the sport that quickly dominated the game while reducing the skill level of the players. At the same time every country started holding leagues inviting international players to join while paying much more than regular cricket. Now players getting more money is fine but it basically rolled the soul out of the game because the longer and more challenging and skillful forms of the game are played a lot less.

[-] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

I guess the best thing would be smaller/local teams and leagues. That’s if they even have the infrastructure to take off.

[-] Monk3brain3@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

So that is what the governing body is promoting. Which is shockingly long term thinking for a financially driven organization. The problem is that the resource are just far lesser for the poorer counties and this translates into lower player quality and competitiveness by the poorer countries. I mean we see in football too. Why hasn't an African team won a WC? Literally just $

[-] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago

He wants to pander to the right so bad.

[-] agentant@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago

I don't keep up with soccer/football(black and white ball game). What does a red card? What's the whole deal with this?

[-] spectre@hexbear.net 24 points 2 days ago

The referee gives you a red card if you commit a severe foul (there are specific rules about what qualifies, but that's outside the scope of this comment).

If you get a red card, you are kicked out of the game immediately, your team plays the rest of the game without you nor any replacement for you, and you are not allowed to play the next game (but your team will have the usual 11 players).

The deal is that Trump called FIFA (an extremely corrupt organization) and asked for an appeal for a US team player who got a red card in the last game. FIFA has rescinded the red card so that player will be available for the next game. Trump has just been blatantly talking about this in the media, just being like "doesn't seem fair that he should miss the next game for something that happened in the last one.." As though everyone needed his opinion on whtheer red cards are fair or not. I guess FIFA cared though

[-] agentant@hexbear.net 23 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I swear I don't know the last time I heard a good thing about FIFA. They just seem like such an awful fucking organization.

doesn't seem fair that he should miss the next game for something that happened in the last one

Now for the million dollar question: Who the fuck asked? No one wanted Flavor-Blasted Hitler's opinion on soccer/football/black and white ball game.

Btw thanks for the explaination heart-sickle

I swear I don’t know the last time I heard a good thing about FIFA

For me it was '97 and it was about FIFA computer game

[-] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

Well it was last football game i ever played so

[-] grok2028@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

They would’ve overturned it even if he hadn’t called honestly, this isn’t unprecedented, it’s just Trump taking credit of shit he didn’t do for popularity

[-] davetortoise@reddthat.com 4 points 2 days ago

Maybe not unprecedented, but extremely unusual.

[-] grok2028@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Honestly both the red card and the overturn were a mistake. VAR was used incorrectly in the red card. There’s also the fact that there wasn’t this level of anger when a very similar happened to Ronaldo. Also, Kkkeir SStarmer called FIFA yesterday to try and keep them from changing the kickoff time of the Mexico England game. Fuck Trump, fuck FIFA, fuck the US, but this situation is really shitty. I feel for the players, especially Balogun who didn’t ask for any of this and handled the original red card maturely. Also fuck Belgium, trying to take some moral high ground when this match is turbo hitler particle charged

[-] whatdoiputhere12@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago

.....i really have to root for belgium? :vomit-emoji:

[-] BuhbyeLittleGumshoe@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago

lumumba-point Revolutionary defeatism

[-] WilliamJenningsBryanJonestownMassacre@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

wasn't a red, bans should be reviewable/reversable, clear precedent for review/reversal of ban, the best players should play, winners should be decided on the field, belgium has no standing to complain as it wasn't the party harmed by the foul, trump is obviously simply declaring himself the proximate cause of the reversal for clout, no substantive difference between trump appealing to officials or Belgium's counter appeal

soccer fans say they like soccer but seem to hate when it's played. hopefully for them soon the entire match will be subsumed by VAR, and all momentum and moments of beauty are extinguished in favor of AI surveillance, a regime of inhuman technicalities.

[-] grok2028@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago

Good take honestly. It really just doesn’t matter

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago

Per that last xeet, what was revealed about insider trading?

[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

I was thinking I should bet some money on the US winning the world cup, since it is the only way it could be made worse and FIFA is corrupt as fuck.

Yes I am still sore about the european championship Denmark was robbed of during covid. That judge was biased as fuck. THERE WAS A BALL ON THE FIELD
