Soon-Shiong was born in South Africa, and under apartheid was considered "colored". Basically everyone that wasn't white was discriminated against, Chinese were legally second-class citizens.

It was only well into the 70's, more than 20 years after his birth, that some Asians started getting "honorary white" status.

I don't think there's been any proof that they are anywhere near Ukraine, but there was that one geolocated video of North Koreans in Russia, about 70 miles from the NK border.

That's because it's never the same stuff in "pink cocaine". There is no real recipe, there are many manufacturers (it's literally no effort, lol).

I really wasn't expecting what I found when I looked at https://darkrenaissance.github.io/darkfi/philosophy/philosophy.html

Citing the PKK and Baudrillard to justify a crypto project? Saying the fall of the Soviet Union was bad? Opposing anarch-capitalism?

Kinda weird, and it doesn't seem like the philosophy has that much to do with the actual code.

restic to a local server and to cloud storage. it varies by device, but usually just everything in /home/. The rest of the operating system should be reproducible, whether through images, ansible, nix, or guix, given the information in /home/.

scheduling is done through systemd, usually (or the non-systemd equivalent). I use BackBlaze now, but I switch around occasionally. restic has policy based snapshot removal, and a prune option.

I mean, misandry does exist in so far as an individuals prejudice, but not exactly systemically.

A lot of what could be perceived as systemic misandry is really just the more toxic aspects of patriarchy and masculinity. In controlling society, masculinity claimed violence as it's own. So when men are much less likely to be taken seriously in SA cases, or when they get longer sentences than women for the same crime, it's the flip side of what benefits men. The power imbalance is overall in men's favor, which is why it's not really misandry, but it's not like it doesn't harm men in some ways (and I think most feminists would agree with that).

imo misogyny should also just be used for personal prejudice, because it doesn't really encompass all that makes up patriarchy.

This particular case is a bit interesting, the tweet is a bit misleading. The "banter" was calling the dude a "bald c***"", and the sex-related harassment is just one part, on a whole it was a wrongful dismissal suit. But basically harassment by British law is unwanted conduct related to a protected characteristic, that violates dignity and creates a hostile environment. Sex is a protected characteristic, and all of the parties agreed that baldness was much more common among the male sex, and that bald insults were more likely to be directed at men. The lower court ruled in favor of the dude (after all, it met the criteria usually used), so the defendant appealed, arguing that a sex-related trait has to be exclusive. The judge thought that reasoning was silly, it would mean that "Hiya Big Tits" isn't sex-related because men can have "tits" too. Y'all can read of the thing if you want: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/66fe7b96e84ae1fd8592ed89/British_Bung_Manufacturing_Company_Ltd_v_Mr_A_Finn__2023__EAT_165.pdf.

So much Isekai would be a lot better if they just did away with the Isekai part. If the main character was just from that alternate world, but grew up isolated, usually the plot would end up the same. And sometimes it seems like the author knows Isekai is a bad idea, so it's just an introduction and maybe brought up infrequently, but it's irrelevant to the plot.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, for example, the slime being a salary worker in a previous work isn't too relevant. It could just as easily be "The Life and Times of an Intelligent Slime", where the slime has intelligence because it came across an artifact or was born like it. The story wouldn't change too much.

Isekai is often just self-inserting, but like.... not good.

Pretty neat vid, I like how the destruction is actually very obvious and visible.

A lot of other similar videos have vehicle kills where it's really hard to tell the aftermath, because either the explosion causes a lot of dust and smoke, making it hard to see, or it's some anti-tank weaponry penetrates, making damage hard to tell.

A photo of the tote bag made for the convention.

Some nice, smooth, consistent quality. Better Call Saul was in my opinion pretty consistent. Single season anime is almost always consistent, like My Dress-Up Darling or Terror in Resonance.

Not dragging on longer than the series needs to seems to be a key point.

The photo is a 1974 photo of Leslie Feinberg, from the FBI file on hir. I've written a piece on my interpretation of Transgender Warriors and Trans Liberation, but I don't think it's quite polished enough, so I'll post it later. Instead, I'll go over hir FBI file: https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/dc-metro/rg-065/6282555/Batch0010/6282555_100-HQ-480756.PDF.

The FBI thought Feinberg could be violating the Communist Control Act, advocating the overthrow of the government, and engaging in rebellion. Needless to say, a hero to all of us. Feinberg was a member of the Workers World Party (the party still exists, but more notably PSL split from it), which apparently wasn't openly advocating for the overthrow of the U.S, they just think it's inevitable.

My favorite line? "captioned subject is believed to be a white female, who became male through some kind of sex change operation, and is possibly homosexual". Some interesting language choice, and it's an interesting snapshot into the evolution of Leslie's identity.

The FBI found Leslie's place of birth and birthdate from public school records. It's a bit of an interesting look into all of the many places the FBI can get their information, along with how information like that was so much more patchwork before the digital age.

"Interview of subject is not being recommended because of the questionable nature of his sexuality". Hmm, interesting.

It's interesting how their investigation spanned multiple cities, from Kansas City to NYC to Bufffalo to Boston. It probably involved quite a few officers, though I'm sure it wasn't the main focus for all of them.

There's some interesting mention about changes in Leslie's gender identity. Born a girl, for a time wearing a beard and mustache, then going back to "she". I'm sure we all know, Feinberg's gender didn't stop evolving there.

"Subject reportedly contributes all extra money to WWP", Leslie definitely was dedicated to the cause. Leslie doesn't attend NYC WWP meetings, but the FBI doesn't mention why.

The FBI isn't immune to typoes, Leslie did some "criminal terspass" that garnered some attention. They wasted some time checking if Leslie was in Boston, but verified where Leslie in NYC lived by pretending to be a part of the Voter Registration Commission.

There's a whole 43 pages of documents, all just from 1974-75. There's plenty of interesting tidbits in there, so maybe check it out.

psychosis (hexbear.net)

I've never had, like, permanent psychosis, and psychedelics/weed/"normal" drugs have never triggered it.

However, I have had it a few experiences, mostly down to stimulant binges. It usually starts off pretty innocuous, I just get a little jumpy at little things. Then gradually I start to get jumpy at things that aren't really there, mostly just things in the corner of my eye, some ghost sensations as well. I haven't ever gotten any full on visual hallucinations with this, and the tactile sensations don't feel too much like something crawling under my skin.

At it's peak, the big thing is auditory hallucinations. I hear people whispering behind doors, I hear music playing where there is none. It all sounds so real, and while I can make a little bit of differentiation, I can't really. I can usually tell when distinct voices are just a product of my imagination, but whispering is practically impossible. Even worse is the sounds that aren't human. Once, I was hearing the sounds that a computer program I have would make. I went and checked each and every single device with speaker that I owned, and it wasn't coming from any of them. And yet, I could still hear it. Very eerie. Tapping on my window, cars driving by that shouldn't be, bells and pops that don't exist. Another thing that I really don't like is the hallucinated gunshots, and what makes it worse is that once they were real, not imagined. I'm don't touch any weapons (not just firearms, but pepper spray or dangerous objects) when I'm high, much less when I'm like that, so it puts me in a bit of an unpleasant state of mind. Imagined gunshots are usually far off though, so it's not too much of a worry.

All in all, while interesting, it's an unpleasant experience. It's not really similar to psychedelic hallucinations (I've had some pretty powerful auditory hallucinations with those too, but it's really not the same). It's like a fever dream, but with none of the pleasant aspects. Getting psychosis from low doses of a deliriant would probably be more enjoyable, because then you don't have all of the other unpleasantness associated with staying up too long.

I definitely take effort to avoid it now, but earlier on my "usage" was a lot harder to manage, and it happened more often. I know my limits, and when to dose (even if I don't always follow my knowledge). Also, even just low level tolerance helps, because then the high doesn't last "forever". Sleep also gets a lot easier with tolerance and experience (experience matters, even after a relatively long T-break I keep my sleep skills). Being able to sleep just fine after two (very generously) to four hours after an oral dose of meth (oral ROA is the longest lasting, also I currently generally avoid other ROA's, as they are less safe) isn't unusual.

It's not something I would recommend, at all, but honestly I'm glad I tried it at least once (more than once is too much, though). It gives me a lot of sympathy for people that have similar symptoms more long term, in a way no art or description could (not that I wasn't sympathetic before, but I was basically walking in their shoes). Sorta like the inspirational moments a psychedelic experience can bring, but different, weirder, and perhaps more meaningful.

So, yeah. I'm not in psychosis right now, I just felt like sharing some clear neurodiverse connections to some of my SUD.

And floss too. If it's the evening, that's a perfect time to do it. If it's the morning, great time as well. Middle of the day? You've probably had food, brush them teeth. If you've recently (but not immediately after, wait a bit, drink some water) eaten, that's a perfect time to brush. Especially if you've recently had something sugary (avoid sugary stuff, also like I said not too recently).

And if you can, and haven't recently, see a dentist.

Your teeth are precious, and hard to replace. Lack of proper dental care can in many ways amount to a tax on the poor, where a lack of proper preventative care can turn mouths into an unaffordably fixable mess. Get people in your community to take care of their teeth too.

There's really only a few situations where you shouldn't be brushing your teeth right now: you vomited recently (brushing after vomiting can degrade the protective coating on your teeth), or you brushed recently.

Not having the equipment for it on you is only an excuse this once, carrying that stuff with you is a good idea. You eat and drink throughout the day, so you should brush and floss throughout the day. And who knows when you'll need to be presentable? You don't want to barrage your comrades, friends, partners, or "path to promotion" (your bosses) with bad breath.

Substance User Disorder (drug addiction, basically) is in the DSM. It has "atypical patterns of thought or behavior". So talking about it fits here, right? What should go in c/drugs and what should go here?

Anyways, I'm making this post in part because I've been taking longer breaks from meth. Four days between the last time I used and now (I am currently high, it definitely potentiates my posting powers). Maybe I'll actually commit next break. Oh yeah, and tapering benzos is going quite well. It's been 7 weeks, and I'm down to close to a third of my original dosage. The taper schedules I've seen seem to show I should wait a while before lowering my dosage again. SMART and such have been great in terms of motivation, but a lot of the details have been DIY. Getting my GP or an actual doctor involved would be cool, but is also probably a terrible idea in practice (and I've been doing fine so far).

idk, I just don't see much posting about it here, but then again it's really only a handful of Hexbears that post about it in general. also, just posting for the heck of posting.

Another sweetie down, infinite cuteness on the human race

It looks like they did a true tit-for-tat, blowing up a target with a missile (or a planted explosive). Reporting is early, so it's hard to tell, just like with the Ismael Haniyeh situation.

The photo is from Tel Aviv (and off Facebook, lol), it seems to show the response. Haven't seen any photos of the explosion itself yet, but I'm sure those will be coming out shortly.

It could have also been some other group, but that seems unlikely.

Lots of good stuff in their, really reminds me of badempanadas scuffle with Kurzgesgat. Also reminds me of our criticism of "bazinga brain" people.

I actually found this on r/Anarcho_Capitalism, where they were talking about how Assad didn't do the chemical attacks. Quite strange, honestly.
