Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

look inside

tory government

[–] [email protected] 33 points 4 weeks ago

Starmer is legit worse than any Tory leader up until Sunak. Even Truss decided against enacting a toilet ban.

Oh hey i know that, since 1989 whomever we vote for in Poland, there's always balcerowicz coming out from ballot box.

What has the poor sea done to deserve having to swallow these wretched islands?

[–] [email protected] 41 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Not doing it before things got out of hand.

That's more of a Njörðr department, and weirdly enough considering North Sea and the usually very cranky personalities of sea gods in various mythologies, he was a rather calm and easygoing dude.

provided warm climate for vegetation to produce easily accessible coal deposits, sea knows what it did

US and UK competing to see who can be the most grotesquely transphobic.

[–] [email protected] 47 points 4 weeks ago (7 children)

i still think this is the weirdest way to handle this. if everyone was using their birth restrooms, then you get dudes with big beards in the womens room. like obviously not a well thought out position.

[–] [email protected] 62 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

It is well thought out, because they don't want trans men in women's toilets. They don't want trans people in public, or to exist at all. That's the entire point.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 weeks ago

Jokes on them, I'll piss in the street while shouting 'they should provide access to facilities' at anyone who looks at me

[–] [email protected] 51 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

Laws like this are designed to be selectively enforced against people that a society wants to discriminate against.

This isn't an oversight so much as a way to empower the state to pick and choose who gets punished.

In the case of laws like these, fully passing people pee like they did before. Everyone else is fucked

[–] [email protected] 19 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

fully passing people

Fully passing and fully stealth. If someone at your work knows and hates you for example, still fucked.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 weeks ago

True. That is a tiny sliver of peope

[–] [email protected] 49 points 4 weeks ago

it helps to frame it as "they don't want trans people to exist in public at all".

[–] [email protected] 43 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

It's well thought out if the goal is just transphobia (which it is)

[–] [email protected] 17 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Is the goal transphobia or is transphobia the guiding principle? I don't imagine them thinking "we should do/say this to be transphobic" but more going "because of transphobic beliefs we have, we believe we should do this".

I think it's an important distinction between a more widespread unconscious problematic belief within society which permeates everything and must be addressed through deep roots (cultural revolution type beat) and a consciously held and enforced idealism upon which removing the enforcers would solve the problem (just vote out the transphobes)

[–] [email protected] 30 points 4 weeks ago

as far as goals, it seems to me that this kind of reactionary political project uses transphobia in the same way it uses homophobia and misogyny as ideological tools to enforce 'normalcy' (e.g. patriarchal nuclear family). then when people don't or can't adhere to these norms, that is the justification to cut them out of the social safety net, which in turn supports gutting the state.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

we should do/say this to be transphobic

No, they literally do start with "I hate trans people/they make me uncomfortable/whatever so we should do this to hurt them". The purpose is eliminating us.

That's the neat part: trans men are banned from both restrooms!

Moreover, women living in the male gender could also be excluded under paragraph 28 without this amounting to gender reassignment discrimination. This might be considered proportionate where reasonable objection is taken to their presence, for example, because the gender reassignment process has given them a masculine appearance or attributes to which reasonable objection might be taken in the context of the women-only service being provided. Their exclusion would amount to unlawful gender reassignment discrimination not sex discrimination absent this exception.

I guess they can piss outside or something???

[–] [email protected] 22 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

That's the neat part: trans men are banned from both restrooms!

Or rather organisions are now allowed to ban trans men from both bathrooms. The Equality Act is a badly written and conceived law in many places that labour could fix any time they want (but won't).

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago

As understood by a layman, bathroom is a room containing a bath, i think that makes toilets A OKAY /s

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I know it's bullshit to expect the most vulnerable to do the heavy lifting when it comes to opposing existing power structures.....

But that's exactly what I'd be doing.

Anytime I had to piss I'd walk over to my most bigoted coworker and start pissing on their desk. Sorry, just following the law. I'm not allowed in either bathroom and tou have to let me relieve myself at work. Might be time to start considering whether these laws make any sense.

Totally and then everybody would clap and tell me how big it was.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

Didn't you say in this thread that you "don't have to care because it's all bullshit"?

Why don't you fuck off and stop caring instead of telling trans people what they should be doing?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

No i said literally the opposite and said it's bullshit to expect trans people to single handedly stand up to this shit without support.

I didn't mean to say that's what I would do if I was them I was fucking around.

I guess I should have started the comment with "bit idea" instead of saying "what I would do is"

My bad, I was just trying to make light of a shitty situation.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 4 weeks ago

I kinda get the feeling most of these clowns don't even know that trans dudes exist

[–] [email protected] 14 points 4 weeks ago

When you realize the establishment would rather trans people not exist at all, the thought process begins to make more sense.

[–] [email protected] 45 points 4 weeks ago

They're gonna keep chopping letters off LGBTQIA+ until there's nothing left

[–] [email protected] 40 points 4 weeks ago

My ongoing working theory that the UK proved to be completely irredeemable after rejecting Corbyn and you dont have to care about it because it's all bullshit continues to have a 100% success rate.

[–] [email protected] 39 points 4 weeks ago

I literally cannot talk about what I think of this government anymore. And this is just the latest in their attempt to complete the bingo card of having every most despicable, self-defeating, and pointlessly cruel policy possible.
