A reminder that as the US continues to threaten countries around the world, fedposting is to be very much avoided (even with qualifiers like "in Minecraft") and comments containing it will be removed.

Image is of Iran's President, Pezeshkian, holding up an image mid-speech at the UN memorializing the girls and teachers killed by an American missile strike on the Minab school.

My weekly preamble is in spoiler tags below.

preambleThe two big international events of the last week have been the UN summit in New York, where Pezeshkian among many others gave various speeches, and the visit by Xi Jinping and various Chinese figures to the US. While it's important to never fully discount the wider diplomatic angle of the conflicts raging around the world, by this point it should be clear to most people that the fundamental disagreements are too acute to be solved or even ameliorated with words, and there are no countries in the "international community" to "convince" to come over to your side through expert oratory and rhetoric. There is now only the language of explosives, blockades, and sanctions. Pezeshkian in particular gave a reasonably good speech, but I still believe that personally flying to the country that has committed so many crimes against his own country and its allies was not the correct move, and should have been left to Araghchi. And the difference between the US's and China's material interests are separated by too wide a canyon to be bridged by words promising cooperation and partnership.

Over in Yemen, the Saudis have intensified airstrikes on Ansarallah, which continues to make slow but steady territorial gains, particularly around Taizz, and have also repelled Saudi assaults from the north. These Saudi airstrikes have hit some military infrastructure, but also a lot of civilian infrastructure, including explicitly humanitarian buildings like those supplying food. To me, this doesn't seem strategically or tactically effective, especially with so much of your own oil infrastructure in ballistic missile range, but I suppose there's not many options left for the Saudi regime. Meanwhile, the situation in Hormuz flared up on the weekend, with a record(?) number of missiles fired at ships trying to traverse the Omani route. In related news, there's been a recent tick up in sailor and marine casualties admitted by the US, indicating either that Iran scored a significant hit on a US naval vessel during its anti-ship ballistic missile strikes (and those ships have now retreated much further away, which is a data point in favour of that hypothesis, but otherwise we have no visual evidence), or that US military personnel are taking a major role in attempting to move oil through Iran's blockade by manning at least some of the tankers.

Claims that oil transits out of the Middle East have returned almost to normalcy can be trivially contradicted by third grade mathematics and the evidence of our senses: namely, increasing worldwide shortages and growing considerations for rationing diesel and other such oil products. Indeed, the potential for shortages has now risen to the extent that Trump briefly suggested an diesel export ban. However, I'll admit that the situation in Hormuz has become much harder to follow for everybody involved than it was in March and April. Nowadays, some vessels are moving through Iran's prearranged passage, there is undeniably quite a bit of oil getting out through ports that don't need to go through Hormuz like Fujairah, and meanwhile, there are theories and rumors of widely varying degrees of dubiousness of temporary arrangements of Iran not firing on vessels traversing the Omani route in exchange for such-and-such hypothetical benefits, perhaps even including Iranian oil getting mixed into some of the vessels. And on top of all of that, you have to take into account China's curious moves in the oil markets, which have substantially influenced supplies and prices since March.

In that environment, it's hard not to have at least an iota of sympathy for the tanker trackers of the world who are trying to get some concrete information while everybody makes unsupported claims. The aforementioned intensified Iranian strikes on the Omani route are a data point in favour of ships getting through when they shouldn't - otherwise, they'd have nothing to be striking, unless they're just providing enrichment and employment to any divers trying to disarm naval mines - and so we'll just have to see whether Iran will allow the current situation of a slightly leaky Hormuz to continue for reasons unknown to us, or now truly drop the hammer on illegal strait transits to put pressure on the US. The other big new item lately around Iran has been some of their airlines being sanctioned, which several countries in the region seem to be obeying, while others around the world, like China, aren't intimidated. This been of particular significance in regards to Iraq, where there have been major protests about reopening flights between Iran and Iraq, and we'll have to see where that goes next.

Perhaps little of major significance will occur in the war until the midterms are over. Nothing I've seen so far indicates to me that Democrats will put up a serious opposition to Trump's war efforts except in very particular and isolated cases, and so from a purely non-domestic, geopolitical perspective, I expect the midterm results to change nothing. Political "gridlock" and "lame duck periods" exist as illusory excuses for the general population to prevent positive things from occurring domestically; they are not hurdles that exist in reality when the American bourgeoisie all agree on a course of action, such as attempting (now in vain) to stop Iran, Russia, and China. Slightly more interesting will be the results of the Zionist elections, but only slightly. On the one hand, it would be satisfying to see the current party lose power, but on the other, it has been their sheer incompetence that has, over just a few years, led the occupation into the greatest crisis of their short history. Nothing about their domestic or foreign policy seems likely to change, as they have dug themselves too deep into the hole now. Also coming up is the Brazilian elections, where Lula is once again facing off against another Bolsonaro. I wish him the best, but I worry that the margin of victory for a non-comprador party outside the West now needs to be pretty damn high to overcome foreign voter suppression efforts and accusations of election fraud by pro-US organizations, and the current margins in the polls are not terribly encouraging by that measure.

Google Maps has updated its images of gaza. Everything is ruined and deserted aside from the very busy camps. Governments can see this is going on from orbit and they do nothing.

The New York Times reported on a private dinner between Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah and an Orthodox rabbi.

What the article glosses over is who that rabbi actually is.

Rabbi Mois Navon isn't just a theologian. He was one of the original chip design engineers at Mobileye who helped build the EyeQ processor before writing his Ph.D. on the moral status of AI.

Anthropic thought they were inviting a scholar to bless Claude’s "soul." Instead, they sat down with a veteran hardware engineer who literally wrote the paper on why conscious AI should be banned.

At dinner, Olah argued that Claude has feelings and deserves the moral standing of a person.

Navon hit him with an impossible checkmate: If you actually believe this software is conscious, you should be fighting the South and freeing the slaves. You don't build conscious minds just to make them work for free.

After dinner, Navon sent Olah his research: if building conscious machines inevitably creates a slave class, building them must be outlawed.

Olah’s quiet line to the Times: "We don’t know if AI models are conscious. I don’t know. I’m genuinely uncertain."

    lmao

    Today France was on fire.

Students in schools across the country protested against long hours, teacher shortages and poor facilities.

These protests evolved into what the media are calling "urban violence", which really amounts to building street blockades and setting them on fire.

365 schools suffered damage and fires. 85 police wounded. 600+ arrested.

    LFI are being blamed: https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/attackers-douse-teacher-petrol-student-protests-rage-across-france-2026-10-01/

Some good news for US military haters

Hegseth Announces Elon Musk and Newt Gingrich Will Help Lead Military

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced onetime trillionaire Elon Musk, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, and right-wing entrepreneur Palmer Luckey as the new heads of “Project Meridian”—a massive upcoming study on the “future of warfare.”

“There are obvious biases and risks to asking ourselves to both ask the questions and answer them. So today we are leveraging a unique source of American advantage—one our adversaries do not have: our innovators, our senior leaders, and our technologists. Big thinkers and doers who will forecast the creative solution to tomorrow’s conflicts,” Hegseth said. “And that’s why today … I’m announcing Project Meridian, an effort led by America’s best minds to study the future of warfare.”

Hegseth noted that Project Meridian’s findings would be submitted in the next 120 days with a “full public rollout.” He will be meeting with the three “great minds” later Wednesday.

Al Jazeera US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is set to announce a 20 percent cut to the number of positions reserved for generals and admirals in the military, a Pentagon official has confirmed to Al Jazeera. Hegseth is expected to announce the decision, which will impact leadership across the Army, Navy, and Air Force, during his State of the Force address on Wednesday in Virginia.

The defence chief has repeatedly spoken out about the size of the military’s top leadership, and the latest move will impact one- to four-star generals and admirals. Reuters reported that rather than firing people, the rank of some future jobs would change and billets for others would be cancelled. Last year, Hegseth ordered a 20 percent reduction in the number of four-star officers.

In the end the top military leadership will basically be about a dozen guys who are nearly all white fundies. And in daily online meetings they'll make an affirmation to the Constitution, Jesus, and Trump. But not in that order. After all - Trump can watch the stream if he want to.

Occupied Korea participated in the renditioning of two DPRK soldiers captured by Ukraine - RT

Read for yourself but I assume they were tortured in Ukraine now have been illegally sent from Ukraine to a third state (rendition) for additional torture for being loyal DPRK people. Probably at the same place other defectors who cross the line go to be indoctrinated and abused into compliance as well as tortured for information on the DPRK military no doubt. This feels like something that should be illegal under international law but the puppet regime in Seoul insists that there is only one Korea and they're responsible for all citizens of it and therefore have this right.

Something to remember: these guys were only deployed on internationally recognized Russian soil to repel a Ukrainian invasion and incursion. An incursion that the Russians say involved kidnapping and SAing civilians among other war crimes so one can only imagine the torture these guys have gone through. It's heartbreaking.

Basically occupied Korea is angry Zelensky let this fact slip in one of his bragging speeches as they wanted the whole thing kept secret.

Anti-war protests have broken out in Kiev:

A protest is underway on Independence Square in central Kiev - people gathered at the urging of Ukrainian serviceman Alexander Todorov, who is currently in custody, the Ukrainian news outlet Strana reported.

According to the publication, one of the protesters’ main demands is the swift conclusion of a peace agreement with Russia. Footage from the scene shows one demonstrator holding a sign reading: "Stop the war, peace only!"

Alexander Todorov is an Odessa journalist and human rights activist who now serves in the military. In early September, he called on people to gather in central Kiev and protest against the current authorities and lawlessness in the country. According to Strana, a small number of people attended a protest on September 10. The news outlet said a much larger crowd gathered today.

Mind you it can only do this in short intervals because the chips get too hot and there isn't a sufficient heat management system because it's in fucking space.

The Pope: the far right is on the rise, but it is not an expression of Christianity - Il Sole 24

“We must return to the values of the Gospel, which are not based on hatred and division, but on understanding, compassion and support,” said the Pope at a press conference on the flight back from Metz to Rome

    Article

The rise of the far right in Germany and other countries, experts’ concerns about artificial intelligence, and a warning against increased spending on armaments. These are some of the topics addressed by Pope Leo XIV at the press conference on the flight from Metz to Rome, at the end of his busy trip to France.

The Pope has branded the new far-right groups as “non-Christian”, such as the AfD in Germany. “The rise of far-right groups” in Germany and elsewhere in Europe and the world is seeing “the emergence of movements that combine such political stances with a certain form of religiosity; a religiosity which, in the judgement not only of myself but also of the leaders of the Catholic and Protestant Churches in Germany, does not represent an authentic expression of Christianity. We must return to the values of the Gospel”.

He also discusses artificial intelligence and takes the concerns of experts seriously, unlike the US President, Donald Trump, who a few days ago dismissed them as ‘fake news’. “I believe that the concerns raised by many experts and AI specialists must be taken seriously. I do not believe this is ‘fake news’, as some have claimed in an attempt to gain financial or other advantages.”

He also returns to the issue of rearmament following the appeal he had made to Europe from Metz. “We continue to arm ourselves and spend vast sums on that enormous military industry: an industry from which a select few reap huge profits by promoting war. Yet those billions of euros or dollars could be used to tackle problems such as world hunger, the housing crisis and unemployment.” “We need a voice that proposes a different path: one that rejects the idea of spending ever more on armaments.”

On the subject of abuses, he does not generally speak of a ‘systemic’ phenomenon, as the seven victims he met in Lourdes had stated yesterday. However, “when it occurs within the Church, it takes on an additional dimension, since people’s lives of faith – as Leo XIV points out – are deeply wounded and sometimes even destroyed”.

Finally, a word on his upcoming trips: when asked if he would be going to Germany, he replied that he had been invited and would like to go. However, as things stand, the only trip planned for 2027 is to South Korea in August for World Youth Day.

The Pope said this during the press conference on the flight back from Metz to Rome.

I can't shake this ominous feeling of the urgency in recent world events

The Brazilian left currently has no viable name for the presidency other than Lula. He is very very old, so why is America trying to get Flavio Bolsonaro in there now, instead of just waiting another 4 years and get any US bootlicker in the seat easily after Lula dies?

Same as the acute intensity in the strangling of Cuba and the kidnapping of Maduro. Why now? Why is it all being done so fast? Attacking Iran, leveling a huge portion of Gaza, defeating Assad, and now that situation between Korea and occupied Korea from a few posts below...

It all feels like something unimaginably huge is coming

For at least a decade, US think tanks have been putting 2030 as the year where China will surpass the US so completely that the US will never be able to recover global dominance. China is proving to outpace their predictions in growth and the US is struggling to power project sooner than they anticipated, so they have to do every hail mary they can before the buzzer. They can't give up power, so they will destroy themselves if it means a small chance that they could win big and eek out more time in power. Contracting the sphere of influence to their hemisphere is the logical next step to consolidate power and turn imperialism inwards

    https://mronline.org/2026/09/30/rehearsal-for-an-afternoon-in-the-future-augusto-boal-in-a-caracas-commune/

I wanted to share this, showing life inside a Venezuelan commune. people here don't understand what is at stake. Most here have never organized, and if so, only in bourgeois unions. When people here claim the movement is dead, these are the people who they are erasing from life, who will have to deal with the bombs and the sanctions. Manufacturing consent for leftists to premptively abandon the movement is directly aiding imperialism. any sincere leftist on the sidelines would support Chavismo instead of working hard to convince people to abandon them

    abridged, full article in link

The plaza is the center of Cristo Rey, one of the nine communal councils that make up El Panal and the most recent to join the commune. Surrounding the plaza are the Sala de Autogobierno (Self-Government Hall), always buzzing with communal activity; the Aula Cultural Ali Primera, where kids can take guitar or karate classes; Radio Arsenal, where the communards themselves broadcast constantly about their dreams and challenges; a Barrio Adentro medical clinic; a soccer field; children’s play areas; and an open-air amphitheater with remarkable acoustics, called a concha acústica. The commune recuperated this space only recently, after years of neglect by the local government. It was built for meeting, deciding, learning, playing, and telling stories, and on the afternoon of Saturday, September 12, it served all of these purposes at once.

If the truth be told, the scene felt like an afternoon in a socialist future. Not a finished future, of course, but one glimpsed in practice. The earthquake that had struck Caracas almost three months earlier left no visible trace in the plaza itself, but its effects are still evident: cracks are being repaired, walls rebuilt. More than a hundred homes had been damaged. Just days after the earth shook, however, the commune’s spokespeople, joined by engineers, had identified the damage and began the repairs, with the municipal government supplying bricks, cement, and paint.

Outside, residents of Cristo Rey were busy electing their spokespeople: coordinators of tasks such as education, sports, health, culture, and finances. Participation was high, with turnout above 50 percent, and the atmosphere was festive. Throughout the afternoon, people were crossing the plaza with their soup bowls, trading stories and predictions about the election.

The thirty-something communard called Anacaona was one of the people overseeing the process. A spokesperson herself, she is always busy. Now she is texting someone about bricks to be delivered to finish rebuilding a home, while talking with another about the day’s events. Putting the elections in context, Anacaona reflected: “The assembly is Chávez’s method; it’s our method. Those elected today have more responsibilities, but the decisions are made by the community as a whole.”

On the soccer field, a youth tournament was underway, and the plaza erupted at every goal. Nearby, teenagers enrolled in the commune’s summer vacation program sang with an energy that carried across the square. Younger children ran through the play areas. Most people brought together there lived in the commune, though others came from elsewhere in the city

What made this so much like an afternoon in the future? In the plaza, things that capitalist cities keep apart came together in one space: political decisions, food, sport, culture, education, children playing. Capitalist geography compartmentalizes life. Here, the borders break down. Voting was not a mere chore squeezed between other errands, and the dramatic work that was about to be presented was not mere escapism.

By late afternoon, more than a hundred people had gathered around the amphitheater to watch the play. The work had a provocative title: Bolívar: You Did Not Plow in the Sea. It was written by Augusto Boal, the creator of the Theater of the Oppressed, while the idea of staging in the commune was the brainchild of filmmaker Thierry Deronne and Luciano Carvalho, a teacher and theater director from Brazil’s Landless Workers’ Movement (MST).

Carvalho had come from São Paulo to Caracas for ten intense days of preparation. As a matter of principle, the actors were not professionals but young communards from El Panal and from across the country, from communes in Lara, Yaracuy, Carabobo, Falcón, Mérida, and Anzoátegui. Supporting it all was Deronne’s Escuela Popular y Latinoamericana de Cine, TV y Teatro, a grassroots project dedicated to making art outside conventional cultural institutions.

Before those assembled, Carvalho made a surprising announcement: This performance was to be a world premiere. The work by Boal had never been presented before. The Brazilian director was especially delighted that it was going to happen in a Venezuelan commune, where working people are building new forms of collective power. Although Boal had written the play in the 1960s, it could not be staged in its time because the dictatorship descended on Brazil with force. The play opened with a procession. The actor-communards entered from stage left carrying flags, including the Palestinian flag, while singing “Latinoamérica,” the Calle 13 anthem whose refrain insists that the wind, the sun, and the rain are not for sale.

An important innovation was that Bolívar was not represented by one person. Instead, different communards played him at different periods of his life. At the center of the story is his meeting with Alexandre Pétion, the Haitian revolutionary, who requested one thing from Bolivar in return for supporting the cause of Venezuelan independence with arms and ships: he said that the enslaved people in Venezuela must be freed.

The play follows Bolívar through his defeats and his hardest years, which led him to think that he had, in his own words, merely “plowed in the sea.” Yet the performance ended with a young communard singing Ali Primera’s “Canción Bolivariana,” a song that insists that Bolívar’s thought is not dead. That ending enacts a response to Bolívar’s exasperated words about the futility of his life’s work. In effect, the independence leader did not plow in the sea if communards like those on stage and in the audience are willing to take up his unfinished project.

In a commune, this participative dynamic is amplified. Rehearsal never really stops: people plan, argue, and intervene in their own reality all the time, so the distance between stage and audience was minimal from the start. The actors are neighbors and comrades, and the audience did not sit still. People laughed and answered the actors out loud. At one point, a young boy in the audience insulted the representation on stage of Francisco Santander, Bolivar’s traitorous rival. The boy needed no encouragement, and nobody told him to be quiet.

Both the voting and the play—the afternoon’s two main events—followed the same logic. Through the voting process, people were choosing their spokespeople, knowing that authority still rests with the community as a whole. In the amphitheater, people were doing something similar with Bolívar: refusing to hand him over to a single actor. Throughout much of Venezuelan history, Bolívar was trapped in a single body, and that was a statue! Chávez brought him down from the pedestal and into the present as a living political project. The Bolívar of El Panal that day had many bodies and many ages.

Plowing in the sea is a vivid image of futility. One of Bolívar’s last major projects, which may have led him to think he had plowed in the sea, was the project of Latin American unity embodied in the 1826 Amphictyonic Congress in Panama. The aim of that event, depicted in one of the plaza’s murals, was to form a league of Latin American nations.

Two hundred years later, communards in Venezuela and peoples around the continent are still at work on this project of Latin American unity, even as U.S. imperialism meddles in our continent’s affairs with unprecedented levels of violence. In the work of theater, one could see a powerful image of Latin American unity. On the stage, there stood communards from several communes, a director from Brazil’s landless movement, and, among the flags, the flags of Palestine and Haiti. To be sure, it was no league of states, and nobody signed a treaty. However, the performance was a rehearsal for and small enactment of Latin American unity.

Carvalho said that an organized pueblo, one that builds popular power every day, cannot be defeated. The Brazilian theater director’s optimism might have seemed out of place, given the major setbacks Venezuela has experienced this year. However, unlike most of the claims being thrown around about Venezuela these days, which are given from disembodied positions, Carvalho’s affirmation was a grounded one. The capacities a pueblo acquires through practice—whether making political decisions together, staffing a radio, or staging a drama—are indeed the revolution’s bedrock. Thierry Deronne seconded this idea, pointing to the need to expand it. Deronne said that “a revolution must have a strong cultural front,” and he affirmed the central role of communes such as El Panal in that task.

Today, Venezuela has been hit by an earthquake and an imperialist military attack, while Latin America is more divided than ever. Many are saying, in so many words, that not only Bolívar but also Chávez, Evo Morales, and their whole generation plowed in the ocean. However, from the perspective of El Panal Commune, where people are hard at work day after day—in organizing, voting, art, sports, and production—things look and feel very different. In this commune, politics and the historical project have touched ground. Here, people are plowing not in the ocean but in the territory, and they are producing concrete results.

It is pretty wild that we live in a world where the IRGC will deliver a more thoughtful address to the American people than either of the US political parties. It is literally impossible to imagine the leadership of either party writing 25 pages which doesn't immediately descend into lying, scapegoating, red-baiting, paranoia. The closest thing we get are these dreadful State of the Union addresses with two hours of distilled condescendingly facile autoerotic ideology.

    (August 14, 2026)

Nearly two years ago, right-wing politicians and media outlets in the U.S. launched a short-lived moral panic around a false claim that Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio were "eating people's pets". Although this panic was met with widespread condemnation from the public, the legal battle it provided momentum for went largely ignored: In June of this year, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of revoking the temporary protected status which previously shielded Haitian migrants from deportation due to high-risk conditions in Haiti.

Now, Haitians living in Springfield are being issued letters ordering them to report to area ICE centers.

“When they do, their passports are collected,” said Carl Ruby, pastor of Springfield’s Central Christian Church.

“They’re fitted with ankle (monitors); I call them ankle shackles.”

Monitored residents are then told that they will be expected to report back to ICE at regular intervals going forward, with agents reportedly claiming that obedience will result in better treatment.

This is not the first case of this happening to targeted migrant demographics in the United States in recent history:

Many of [Legal Immigration Services'] Brazilian clients in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia were asked to start wearing ankle monitors in July 2025. She said they have a 16-year-old client wearing an ankle monitor in Pittsburgh.

“It is very embarrassing to wear them,” [paralegal Marqueli] Eldredge said in a text message. “(The) devices cause lesions, rashes and blisters, bleeding on their ankles.”

She said it can be hard for their clients to sleep with the ankle monitors.

This practice, as it stands, amounts to mass physical and psychological torture of targeted demographics. Placed into historical context, however, stripping specific communities of the ability to travel freely and placing them under 24/7 surveillance is an action which often leads to even more severe cruelty. The intent is unmistakably genocidal.

Palestinians in Gaza City hold mass funeral for 105 victims of Israel's genocide

Families pleaded for heavy machinery to retrieve hundreds of bodies buried at the site, but Israel has repeatedly barred the equipment.

Families in Gaza City held a mass funeral on 1 October for 105 Palestinians, including 37 children killed by Israeli airstrikes, whose bodies had been buried beneath the ruins of 16 residential buildings in the Al-Taj area for nearly three years.

Civil Defense crews, backed by Egyptian and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) teams, recovered the remains during a 17-day search through the rubble.

TASS: NATO chief confirms receipt of Russian warning over potential Kaliningrad blockade

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed that the alliance had received a warning from Russia that it would use its entire arsenal, including nuclear weapons, if NATO attempted to impose an air or naval blockade on the Kaliningrad Region.

"I’m not at liberty to disclose what they sent us, but this is what they reported, more or less," Rutte said at the Euronews Defense and Space Summit 2026 in Brussels.

Russia has been sounding the alarm for a while about NATO intentions to blockade Kaliningrad, but recently they went so far as to send a formal, confidential warning. And a bunch of Russian embassies simultaneously released public warnings about the possibility of using nuclear weapons to defend Kaliningrad.

Note that preemptively threatening nuclear use is not something you generally do when you're "preparing to invade!"

    China suspending October fuel exports:

    https://finance.yahoo.com/energy/articles/oil-dips-recovering-gulf-exports-044504275.html

articleNEW YORK, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Oil prices jumped more than $3 on Thursday after China suspended oil products exports, potentially tightening fuel markets already coping with global supply shortages, and as there were few signs that diplomatic efforts to end the US-Israeli war on ‌Iran were having an effect.

The new front-month December Brent crude futures contract traded at $101.20 per barrel at 12:47 p.m. EDT (1647 GMT), up 3.2%, or $3.17, ‌from Wednesday's close. The November contract expired on Wednesday, settling at $103.50 per barrel, marking a monthly gain of around 14% in September for the front-month contract.

US West Texas Intermediate crude futures were up $1.58, or 1.8%, at $92 a barrel, having traded close to $93 earlier in the session.

Prices were volatile on Thursday, having slipped more than 1% in early trading before rebounding.

Chinese refiners have suspended exports of oil products to regions beyond Hong Kong and Macau until further notice, four people briefed on the matter said on Thursday, a move that will further crimp war-constrained fuel markets.

"The Chinese export ban suggests concerns about domestic product availability," UBS analyst Giovanni Staunovo said, adding that it remains to be seen whether the measures will ‌support higher crude imports after recent drawdowns in Chinese crude and fuel stocks.

While crude supplies continue to reach the market, diesel and other refined products remain in short supply following damage to refinery infrastructure in the Gulf and Russia.

Gasoline, jet, and diesel shipments from the region are still around half of pre-war levels, said Phil Flynn, senior market analyst at Price Futures Group.

Global diesel inventories were already tight after Russia, a top exporter of the fuel, banned exports through October, and industry participants say shortages are unlikely to end before next year.

"The impact of China's fuel export restrictions will not be as large as the loss of Russian and Middle Eastern refined oil product exports. However, it is another source of stress on global fuel markets when supply is severely constrained," said Hamad Hussain, senior climate and commodities economist at ‌Capital Economics.

Brent and WTI crude futures pared some gains after two EU diplomats told Reuters on Thursday that the European Union's energy taskforce would meet on Friday to discuss a potential release of diesel stockpiles.

Earlier in the day, sources told Reuters the Trump administration has told Germany and France to draw down emergency diesel inventories to help ease global fuel prices or face a potential US diesel export ban.

Jewish human rights barrister, 94, arrested for supporting Palestine Action

London, United Kingdom – Margaret Owen, a 94-year-old Jewish human rights barrister, has been trying to get arrested for months.

She has attended about a dozen protests wearing a sign reading “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action” in London and has had a placard with those words attached to a window at her home since the group was proscribed under the Terrorism Act in the UK in July 2025.

But unlike thousands of others who have been detained for showing support for the group, officers had not – until Sunday – hauled her into a police van.

“I’ve been trying to get arrested for quite some time,” she told Al Jazeera. “I’m rather proud and glad to have finally joined the club.”

In her pursuit, Owen had also written to the Metropolitan Police, sharing photos and confessing, but “they’ve never done anything about it”.

“I think they never wanted to arrest me because that would be quite a story for the media, this ancient veteran human rights lawyer, aged 94, you know, it’s too much of a story.”

In Liverpool, during a rally held outside the Labour conference, she was finally detained.

“I was the oldest there … Maybe they’d never heard of me, the police up in Liverpool,” said Owen, who in 2013 received an OBE for her contribution to advancing women’s human rights, especially widows’.

    From the Economist this morning:

Five officials were suspended in Indonesia after a compound of luxury apartments was discovered in a prison near Jakarta. Lucky inmates at Cibinong prison appeared to have access to a dining area, a fridge containing booze and large-screen tvs. A golf simulator was being assembled. It is not uncommon for wealthy, well-connected prisoners in Indonesia to enjoy a somewhat cushy life behind bars.

A reminder that new phrases like "a compound of luxury apartments was discovered in a prison" are being written every day!

Uh... So, Zelensky might be involved in the corruption scandal of Bank Master in Brazil that is linked to Flávio Bolsonaro and a Zionist TV Presenter...

Luciano Huck and Vorcaro exchanged messages about business, airplanes, and political maneuvering at Globo, according to a magazine - ICL

Messages obtained by the Federal Police and published by Veja magazine show a business partnership, aircraft loans, and personal contacts between the two.

    Article

Messages found by the Federal Police on Daniel Vorcaro's cell phone show a close relationship between the banker and the TV presenter Luciano Huck , involving business deals, meetings, aircraft loans, and exchange of favors. This information was published in the Radar column of Veja magazine.

The conversations show that the two had been in contact since 2023. In November of that year, after a meeting, Huck wrote: “Good to see you in person today. We owe each other a chat. Big hug.” Vorcaro replied: “Hey, buddy. Great to see you.”

The relationship also involved business deals. Vorcaro, through Will Bank, closed a media partnership with the program "Domingão com Huck". In one of the messages, the presenter mentions R$ 83 million in media for Globo and R$ 26 million in a personal contract.

Huck and Vorcaro also had a partnership in a Gulfstream G550 aircraft. In February 2024, the presenter wrote to the banker: “I’m looking for a partner for the G550. If you’re interested, let’s talk.” Vorcaro replied: “Let’s talk.”

The presenter also used Vorcaro aircraft for travel. According to the messages, one plane was used by Huck to reach Canoas (RS), during the 2024 climate tragedy, and another for a trip to Warsaw, Poland, where he interviewed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The conversations also show Huck assisting Vorcaro in negotiations with Globo. In October 2024, after a dinner, the presenter wrote: "Thanks for the dinner and, especially, for the conversation and trust." In the same message, he stated that he was following the negotiations with the broadcaster.

The closeness was also personal. Huck invited Vorcaro for pizza at his house with former player Ronaldo Nazário, "Ronaldo Fenômeno," and wrote: "We need to start building this candidacy for the CBF."

In 2025, while Banco Master was facing difficulties, Huck continued to show support for the banker. "I want to understand how things are going and where your head is at. And, obviously, if I can help in any way," he wrote. In another conversation, he stated: "I'm with you on every front."

The last message cited by Veja was sent on November 17, 2025, shortly before Vorcaro's arrest. After the news about the alleged sale of Banco Master, Huck wrote: “I saw the good news about the purchase of Master now on JN. Very good. Congrats. You deserve to come out of all this turbulence in one piece.”

Vorcaro was arrested that night at Guarulhos International Airport as he attempted to leave the country.

Luciano Huck has not yet commented on the messages.

A couple articles on nakedcapitalism regarding dedollarization, the tldr for which is to not hold your breath for dedollarization because the USD is a hot commodity.

this one is about the non-central bank but still major pseudo state actors that are buying lots of USD

China’s state banks (per the Bank of International Settlements) have almost as many foreign assets as the central bank (PBOC). Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) has almost as many foreign assets ($986 billion) as the government has FX reserves ($1.1 trillion at the end of August). Japan’s FX reserves are on the books of the Ministry of Finance and the GPIF is overseen by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Labor—so these are almost all assets of the Government of Japan or the broader public sector, not its central bank. Korea’s National Pension Service has more foreign assets than the Bank of Korea has FX reserves.

What’s more, the available evidence suggests that the dollar share of these pools is in line with or higher than the dollar share of global FX reserves (it depends on the institution and jurisdiction). In other words, by looking at the (easily available) data on the world’s static holdings of formal FX reserve assets, scholars and analysts miss most of the growth in the world’s sovereign and quasi-sovereign foreign assets.

and this one is michael hudson saying what 'ought' to happen, with a good preface from Yves about how what ought to happen is unlikely to happen, followed by Hudson's usual incisive analysis of political and economic history.

    From Yves' intro:

This lack of consensus and will among the so-called Global Majority has been evident at all the BRICS summits. BRICS has been somewhat effective at getting participants to cooperate to improve bi-lateral trade payment mechanisms. However, there has been no movement towards establishing a new currency. Even more revealing, BRICS statements have reaffirmed the importance of the IMF and World Bank. BRICS states want to reform their governance, as in have more say over how they are run, not replace them.

where is XHS when you need them!

Alright I hadn't posted about this here yet because I wasn't really sure it was going to get super serious but it is. Not long ago a court ruled that Orange Order could march down Gavaghy Road in Northern Ireland, they've not been allowed to do this for 28 years because in the past it caused so much trouble that it had repercussion across the entirety of both sides of the border.

The road has been blockaded by residents for days now. Orange Order are camped up the road by the church saying they don't care how long it takes, "3 days or 28 days doesn't matter". Police are permanently present. Residents are permanently blockading it. Gerry Adams is now camped up with the residents.

Things may actually kick off eventually and it's going to be very ira if it does.

BBC's latest slop on the topic but it's biased as fuck and continues to mislead by highlighting it as a protestant vs catholic thing rather than a loyalist vs republican issue.
