Obviously that means the economy is doing great. That's how it works in America

I know the culture is very woke on gender, but China isn't anywhere close to that, that was my point

[-] QuillcrestFalconer@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago

Mr Xi, please make chinese The Culture, but you gotta get more woke around sex and gender

We're gonna build a dome around America and make America pay for it

Yeah prog international was also involved in the gaza flotilla.

Manufacturing Consent fail to address the class dynamics of post-internet journalism. From 2000 onward, access is not that relevant.

??? Book was published in 1988 though.

I mean you're not wrong but the book was written before the Internet became relevant

The images coming out of gaza are horrific. Anyone still defending Israel should just be executed

Humanity is so cooked

Lmao America boycotting the G20. Basically giving hegemony to China on a platter

I will NOT attend the G20 summit in Johannesburg.

South Africa is doing very bad things. Expropriating private property. Using G20 to promote “solidarity, equality, & sustainability.” In other words: DEI and climate change.

My job is to advance America’s national interests, not waste taxpayer money or coddle anti-Americanism.

What's going on in Northern gaza right now is truly horrifying.

Literal killing fields happening

Breaking Israeli occupation forces prepared a deep hole in one of the squares surrounding the Indonesian Hospital, and placed some males in it with their hands tied and their eyes blindfolded In north Gaza

Link has a video, no gore. There's also other photo where children can be seen

"People are sick of the bullshit in here."

— Reporter @cosgrove_iv at the State Department confronts Matt Miller on U.S. foreign policy.

I guess there's at least one journalist with a conscience

Edit: here's the context of what he said

Reporter @cosgrove_iv confronts Matt Miller on U.S. foreign policy: You're risking nuclear war while financing genocide—people are sick of the bullshit!

"So my question for you is you know we often hear in response to these concerns that while Putin, Khomeini, you know they're terrorists as if they're too inherently evil or immoral for us to negotiate with. But meanwhile, this administration has financed a genocide in Gaza for the last year, and every day you're up there denying accountability for it."

I know people here are very skeptical of AI in general, and there is definitely a lot of hype, but I think the progress in the last decade has been incredible.

Here are some quotes

“In my field of quantum physics, it gives significantly more detailed and coherent responses” than did the company’s last model, GPT-4o, says Mario Krenn, leader of the Artificial Scientist Lab at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light in Erlangen, Germany.

Strikingly, o1 has become the first large language model to beat PhD-level scholars on the hardest series of questions — the ‘diamond’ set — in a test called the Graduate-Level Google-Proof Q&A Benchmark (GPQA)1. OpenAI says that its scholars scored just under 70% on GPQA Diamond, and o1 scored 78% overall, with a particularly high score of 93% in physics

OpenAI also tested o1 on a qualifying exam for the International Mathematics Olympiad. Its previous best model, GPT-4o, correctly solved only 13% of the problems, whereas o1 scored 83%.

Kyle Kabasares, a data scientist at the Bay Area Environmental Research Institute in Moffett Field, California, used o1 to replicate some coding from his PhD project that calculated the mass of black holes. “I was just in awe,” he says, noting that it took o1 about an hour to accomplish what took him many months.

Catherine Brownstein, a geneticist at Boston Children’s Hospital in Massachusetts, says the hospital is currently testing several AI systems, including o1-preview, for applications such as connecting the dots between patient characteristics and genes for rare diseases. She says o1 “is more accurate and gives options I didn’t think were possible from a chatbot”.

The American healthcare system is truly an horrific nightmare.
