In c/unpopularopinion, people just upvote the opinions the like, making them popular. There are barely any unpopular opinions there.

I don’t like Hawaiian pizza

[-] HoneyMustardGas@lemmy.world 1 points 11 minutes ago

I do. I used to hate on it before I tried it but after a friend dated me to order one, I did and enjoyed it ever since.

[-] SoupBrick@pawb.social 2 points 17 minutes ago

The Kinks are better than The Beatles

[-] MutantTailThing@lemmy.world 2 points 21 minutes ago

This is true but mostly because the Beatles are absolute dogshit.

[-] HoneyMustardGas@lemmy.world 3 points 10 minutes ago

And they definitely didn't invent metal with their song "helter skelter".

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 2 points 6 minutes ago

Who the actual fuck says that and can I punch them in the face?

[-] HoneyMustardGas@lemmy.world 1 points 5 minutes ago

Wow that escalated fast. Did you not detect sarcasm in my comment? I apologize.

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 points 5 minutes ago

I never liked /r/unpopularopinions because it was just a way to use otherwise downvoted thoughts to farm karma. On Lemmy, the karma is even more useless than it is on Reddit, and a majority of the posts in the comm are just dumbass rage bait.

This is a dogshit opinion. Good job!

Apple users are technically inept morons

Men who drive giant pickup trucks are deeply insecure

People who want to live in HOAs are freedom-hating bootlickers

The only people who should be allowed to own trucks are laborers

Instragram users are all brain-dead

Privacy is important

People who do not learn how to fix or take care of the stuff in their lives are worthless

Men who watch sports, but do not nor have not ever played them are fat useless pathetic turds

Dogs that bite should all be euthanized, no second chances

Adults that buy and play with Legos suffer from arrested development and should do something useful with their lives

Your pedal bike is a stupid overpriced piece of junk, especially if it cost more than $400

If you wear sweats, crocs, pajamas or anything like that out in public you are a retard, go home and put on some pants

That ought to cover most things.

[-] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 12 points 1 hour ago

Whatever just say what you think and eat a couple downvotes every once in a while.

[-] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 5 points 1 hour ago

You know de wey.

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 1 points 29 minutes ago

You don’t even get that many downvotes before it stops being visible here. I once got something -1,000 on spez’s shitty site.

Then go in another thread and get like a dozen upvotes and you’re chillin

[-] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 24 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Ah, the natural fate of unpopular opinion communities.

The Þ dude is alright and Lemmy users have an irrational hatred for slightly-special characters. I wonder how many people are using automation to downvote every comment of his that contains a Þ, it's way too consistent accross instances and communities to be entirely organic.

[-] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 5 points 50 minutes ago

I supported him when he said it was to poison AI. Then someone proved to him in a thread it did nothing to poison AI. He didn't reply and then showed up a few days later still doing it.

Lemmy users have an irrational hatred for slightly-special characters.

Which makes complete sense, as most lemmy users are slightly special characters who hate themselves

[-] saltesc@lemmy.world 1 points 20 minutes ago

It's true. I'm only here because I'm a loser with sporadic social skills and a tendency to think much better of my 'average at best' intellect. I'm like a John Smith here.

[-] misericordiae@literature.cafe 3 points 53 minutes ago

I started squinting real hard at the tesseract dev (before the controversy) when I saw a tesseract patch note that said something about getting rid of Þ (in some form, idr exactly, just that there was no mention of an option to turn it off). I think it's nice to have a few instantly-recognizable posters in the community, esp. when what they're doing is harmless.

[-] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 3 points 50 minutes ago

That's certainly in character. Icelandic users be like "Fuck me, right!?"

[-] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 7 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Sxan! I love his whimsie and really don't understand the flak they catch. It's a nice departure from the hate/doom feed. I have to actually intentionally read individual words. It's like unexpected brain cardio.

[-] TootSweet@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

What does @Sxan@piefed.zip have to do with this thread? Are you thinking they post an outsized number of posts on unpopular opinion communities or something?

I'm not sure I remember running across any of their posts more than a couple of times, but their post history doesn't seem to intersect with unpopular opinion communities very much. (At least not as far back as I've scrolled.)

Or maybe you're talking about someone else or I'm just not following.

[-] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 5 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Most of his comments have a lot of downvotes (usually only the ones that contain a thorn), and he doesn't really post anything controversial beyond Þe orthography. This indicates that hating his Þ comments is popular, and Þus liking them unpopular.

[-] TootSweet@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Ah. Thanks. Yeah, you and YiddishMcSquidish explained and that makes sense.

[-] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 3 points 1 hour ago

I think they are saying that the popular opinion on lemmy is to not like sxan. But they do like sxan. So their positive opinion of them is unpopular.

Creating ANY kind of smoke should be banned in public. By public I don't mean just bus stops and trains and shit. Literally anywhere but maybe your house. And smoking indoors is even more disgusting. Smoking in your garden? Is there anyone living within ~20 feet? Forbidden. Smoke machines on concerts may have an exemption.

I also fucking had enough of people making fires every fucking time the weather gets too hot for me to keep my windows closed. Then my bedroom smells like the great fire of London and good luck having a good night's sleep like that.

[-] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 hour ago

I feel like deep down we all know this:

The Devil’s fiddle solo in “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” was actually better than Johnny’s.

[-] otacon239@lemmy.world 5 points 1 hour ago

I mean he absolutely cheated by having a band to assist. Of course it was going to sound better. Thankfully, he realized it wasn’t as good without the band included.

[-] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

I’m pretty sure that CDB meant for the Devil’s solo to sound discordant and unmemorable. What I hear though sounds aggressive, passionate, and daring compared to Johnny’s “safe” catchy, melodic solo. Also they gave Johnny a call-and-response with vocalists so I’m not gonna hold the Devil’s backup band against him. Either way the Devil gave up that contest way to easily.

[-] otacon239@lemmy.world 3 points 51 minutes ago

Given the Devil’s history, he really should have had him sign a legally binding (and easily misinterpreted) contract in blood and he would have had it easy.

[-] Tidesphere@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

The biggest road block getting in the way of bike activism and expanded safety and spread of non-car transportation is the bike activists themselves behaving inconsistently and demanding strange, contradictory rulesets and concessions.

[-] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 2 points 46 minutes ago

Bigger than the anti-bike lobbyism backed by multi-billion $ corporations? Also, which country? I'd be surprised if bike activists showed such consistent behavior across national borders.

[-] CarbonIceDragon@pawb.social 6 points 1 hour ago

That "modern" architectural style where you get houses that often have flat roofs, blocky structures, large glass walls and the rest usually white plaster or unpainted wood (idk the name but I think most people have seen it and I see people hating on it more often than not. I dont mean brutalism since what im talking about doesn't usually have unpainted concrete everywhere but it looks maybe related) looks pretty good actually. Not every example sure, but in general I find the aesthetic pleasantly futuristic looking.

[-] toothpaste_sandwich@thebrainbin.org 1 points 19 minutes ago

I think I've heard that being called "scandi", recently.

[-] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 2 points 1 hour ago

I, too, enjoy blocky architecture. Though it's kind of impractical, large glass walls are a large issue in the summer (assuming they're not on the north side) and AFAIK flat roofs have relatively expensive upkeep.

[-] HoneyMustardGas@lemmy.world 1 points 7 minutes ago

Large glass walls are better applied if they have photogrey technology built in so that when light hits them from one side, they tint. I have only ever seen this in hotel lobbies.

[-] TootSweet@lemmy.world 5 points 1 hour ago

My unpopular opinion is that /c/unpopularopinion is fine the way it is.

[-] Triumph@fedia.io 4 points 1 hour ago

Post that over there and see if the universe ceases to exist.

[-] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

"Forrest Gump" is one of the most overrated movies in recent decades.

[-] Dookieman12@piefed.social 1 points 12 minutes ago

The Shawshank Redemption should have won Best Picture that year. The only reason it didn't is because it's a sad story and people like happy stories more.

[-] Glemek@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

Might be an unpopular opinion that the 90s aren't recent decades anymore

[-] ThatGuy46475@lemmy.world 5 points 1 hour ago

Scalping only works because that’s already the market rate, if the venue charged that price to begin with then scalping wouldn’t work.

[-] blarghly@lemmy.world 9 points 1 hour ago

Ticketmaster's real job isn't selling tickets. It's being the bad guy, so fans hate them instead of hating the band or venue.

[-] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 6 points 2 hours ago

I like the thick "rib" of leafy greens.
