Thats a spicy one. I fully agree in principle, but I'm wary of the reality.

I've already seen a bunch of scare stories about doctors in Canada trying to force it onto patients who don't want it. I can't imagine its got to that point already, but the fear is real.

Also when it was my turn to do it to my cat it took me about 2 weeks of "maybe tomorrow we'll see" putting off the inevitable. I didnt even really like the cat that much and it still hurt too much to do it when it needed done. I couldnt imagine being strong enough to make that decision for a parent or sibling.

100% the correct take in theory, in practice we'll need to find a way to make sure sensible compassionate people are in charge every step of the way, which I'm not sure is truly possible to guarantee

I don't think that's an unpopular opinion. I can't see most people really carrying one way or the other but governments don't like it because it's messy to legalize murder but only underscertain circumstances, so they would prefer to just not deal with it at all.

But but but think of the hospitals that can bankrupt and extract money from someone who will be dead soon anyway!

Healthcare being for profit is the only reason why human euthanasia is frowned upon. Cause hospitals will lose money instead of keeping those alive suffer

Agree, though the threshold of suffering might be the part causing issues. I myself have a pretty low threshold, I don't even feel super negative about suicide

Take it up a notch—if I’m competent to make decisions for myself, and I want to be dead, it’d be pretty nice if there was a medical facility that would give me a hand. Or a needle, whatever.
