I think cave art is also quite intimate. Like the hand prints and stencils are very human.

I think it might be possible to... over-state that.

Im sure that in some regions many of these oral histories are preserved, but in others they've sadly been lost to time. In my region there aren't any youth spending their days learning these histories, and I doubt there have been for the last 5 or 6 decades really.

Even Aboroginal place names are very unreliable.

I've heard it as a witticism amongst new parents - no idea what im doing but all of my ancestors seem to have figured it out.

repress them

Can you elaborate on this part? I have no idea what you're talking about.

Lemmy might be a poor choice for a first project.

I’m willing to bet you’d know what I meant if you were trying to merge and I double-tapped lights.

Yeah if you're in the lane I'm merging into then two taps means "it's ok for you to merge in because there's enough room for you". That's more than 2 beats though.

Maybe you mean "o kay" or "yes merge" or "no stop" or "look out" or "nice car"

I’ve been finding that trauma literally makes me stupid. It locks me into myopic fear-based thought patterns that don’t actually help and just keep me trapped for longer.

Could it be that this dynamic has prevented you from contacting those organisations who literally exist to help you?

That commenter saying "its all collapsing", might be right, and perhaps no one is able to help you. However, they could also be wrong, and those organisations are ready and willing to help.

To set your expectations, there's probably not going to be a nice comfy free hotel room set up waiting for you. You'll probably be assigned a case officer who will be able to give you strategies to manage the problems you're facing, while you're waiting for accommodation to become available.

I dont think any of that is a generally accepted code.

I usually wave at them as though I think they're a friend of mine just saying hello.

[-] fizzle@quokk.au 2 points 10 hours ago

because most things I would say to them are two beats long

LOL. Doesn't that mean it's completely ambiguous? There's plenty of awful things you could say in 2 beats.

I imagine that people flash twice because once could be a mistake, twice demonstrates intent. Three would make me wonder whether it's an ongoing flashing light.

Rather than seeking to avoid reporting, your objective is really to find an alternative living situation.

You had some great responses when you asked about this before, like this one:

Did you follow up on any of that ?

Should I be using Debian?

That's unanswerable but ...

I've used Debian exclusively for many years. There are several aspects that have served me well:

  • debian is one of the older, more popular distros - huge community and catalogue of solved problems.
  • it just makes sense to run the same OS on my desktop and on servers, no oddities between them.
  • it's stable and boring.

On that last point, before switching to debian I (like everyone) enjoyed different DE's and distros because they look great and the constant change gives a feeling of progress. However, at some point I realised that I didn't want my OS to be a distraction from what I'm actually doing. Like I want to get my work done, and something not working quite right with the OS due to some bug or update is a huge distraction. Debian's release cycle mitigates that problem.

In the before times it used to be annoying that the software in Debian's repos lagged a long way behind the current releases, but that's not really a problem with the advent of flatpak, nix, and (my preference) AppImages.

Recently I was tempted to switch to NixOS, but I didn't.
