In c/unpopularopinion, people just upvote the opinions the like, making them popular. There are barely any unpopular opinions there.

Does this include fire pits, bbq, and smokers?

[-] Dicska@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago

Well, this is an unpopular opinion discussion. It does.

I knew BBQ would be a touchy one, especially among US users. I think it should be possible to have them, but preferably at places that can organise them in parks, or something.

[-] LurkingLuddite@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

BBQ is overrated. Especially in the US.

[-] Dicska@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

I guess you just offended a BBQ lover. There's 8 billion of us, I don't see why one would downvote someone for having different preferences. Claiming it overrated was a bold move, though.

Oh I enjoy a good BBQ, but the sheer emphasis many put on them is... really weird.

I think many who would downvote me conflate the social aspects with the "BBQ" part. Just throw a damn party! I don't care what you cook but the point is it doesn't NEED to include one of the most wasteful and silly forms of cooking.

Again, not bashing BBQ as an actual cooking practice: A BBQ house restaurant is a beautiful thing if they're not fucking it up. Though that doesn't mean every John Doe needs a BBQ in their back yard for a party! It's about how weirdly popular they are in the US.

Not about how viable or tasty they are.

And internal combustion engines?

[-] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 2 points 12 hours ago

You know what? Now I agree with Dicska, let's get these things banned

[-] Dicska@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Good question. I don't see why people would keep their engine running for an extended period at home, so why not. Exempt on the roads of course.

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago

Exempt on the roads of course.

Pending legislation forcing a shift to all-electric

[-] tyranny@crazypeople.online 3 points 1 day ago

i thought this was unpopular opinions! 'everyone should be allowed to drive on roads' doesn't sound unpopularto me!

[-] Dicska@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Haha, that's a whole other can of worms!
