They toned down the ass in the legendary edition unfortunately.

In good times, in bad times. They'll be on your side forevermore.

Even 2016 and Eternal have pretty moderate requirements for their fidelity.

[-] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 5 points 2 months ago

Arguably, 2016 and Eternal prove it much better than the original - people nowadays are way too spoilt to really appreciate those early 3D graphics, and IMO early 3D graphics aged much worse than pixel art.

Also came here to say Doom. But can it (a potato) run Doom? Even if not, someone almost certainly will have tried and partially succeeded.

ps: And no other game listed in this topic can claim this

Obligatory Hollow Knight mention

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 24 points 2 months ago

Great game indeed, felt like it personified my experience with dysphoria, all without talking.

[-] Atlas_@lemmy.world 18 points 2 months ago

Hollow Knight and Silksong

Minecraft

Also Baldur's Gate 1 and 2

BG1+2 is peak.

IME, Minecraft looks kinda bad until you install shader mods, at which point it needs pretty substantial GPU power. But IDK, maybe Bedrock Edition is more efficient, I only ever played the Java version.

[-] jacksilver@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

Super Mario World is a game that shows artistic design outlasts everything else. That game still looks and plays amazingly.

But I think the real issue is "looks good" is very subjective.

It’s Lies Of P - they left it in the image file name.

[-] moncharleskey@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 months ago

Myst of course.

[-] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 months ago

A lot of older 2d games can run on a portrait potato and the artwork holds up excellently.

RC2, civ 3, Anno 1602, sim city 3000, AOE2.

[-] SpiceDealer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 months ago

Dishonored.

Braid. Assuming the graphics don't have to be realistic?

[-] bestelbus22@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

Bioshock Infinite , even my AMD Athlon II could handle it back in the day

[-] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 8 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Super Nintendo-era pixel graphics games like Chrono Trigger. Pixel graphics need a lot less computational power to look good IMO.

Similar for modern pixel graphics games like Risk of Rain.

The Mad Max game from 2015 is surprisingly well-optimized.

[-] Alenalda@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

I play classic wow private servers. Game came out in like 2005 so it'll run on whatever. The graphics are minimal and stylized to in a way that makes it timeless. Plugging wow-hc.com

TitanFall 2.

Metal Gear Solid V.

... maybe a slightly more impressive than average potato.

Amazing what you can do with a well optimized engine, eh?

[-] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Looking good is about artstyle more than realistic graphics for me so most pixelart games.

Warframe. They got it running on mobile, and it looks absolutely gorgeous. I myself ran it for a few years on a shitty graphics card that could barely run minecraft with a texture pack.
