never knew about the existence of the E variant, that's interesting

building coreboot from scratch can be intimidating (it's not actually as hard as it looks though), if you're interested I recommend skulls which has pre-built images and makes it really easy if you have a raspberry pi or something

The statistic isn't saying that 50% of Linux gamers use steam, it's saying that Linux gamers are ~1/2 as likely to use steam for games when compared to gamers on other platforms. these are very different things.

~50% of Linux gamers using steam is only true if you assumed every gamer on the other platforms used steam

btw i hate the term 'gamer' but it's just convenient to use here :(

oh damn that looks so nice

so a disproportionately large amount (2x) of Linux gamers don't use steam? that doesn't sound right to me with how good steam is on Linux

that would be nice but if it was led by NASA (aka contractors like jpl, lockmart and boeing) there's no way the sats could've been produced as cheaply and quickly imo, because NASA's strengths lie in experimental/science focused things, not operational things

also they wouldn't get the in house pricing for Falcon 9 launches that spacex gets, and spacex wouldn't be able to use starlink launches to test out new boosters for crew launches

i mean there's nothing stopping NASA from doing it (aka Congress funding it and telling NASA to do it), it's not like spacex is going to turn down customers for their rockets

this is just my opinion but taking away personality to appeal to a wider audience is one of the worst things modern megacorps do, the strength of the fediverse is the power it gives to individuals and communities over corporations with money, and so personality is one of the things the fediverse needs to maintain to succeed

Made some replacement parts for the T430 because I had a broken T430 that was missing these. None of them require screws so they should be ideal if you find a broken T430 on the side of the road or something.

I just bought a used "faulty" T430.

It doesn't turn on at all (no lights, no sounds, no fan spin) and when I tried to turn it on with only the critical components (motherboard, power adapter and speakers), I got the same result.

I've also examined the power area on the motherboard, and it seems like 20V is getting delivered to the motherboard just fine.

But I've looked at the motherboard thoroughly, and I couldn't find a single part of it that looked bad.

Is this definitely caused by the motherboard, or could it be an issue with another component like the CPU?

Because of the time it takes for mods to moderate content on Lemmy, the"new" sort's been prone to abuse.

Could a "delayed new" sort, where the newest content x hours ago is shown be introduced to help suppress this problem?

Coming from Windows 10 (I switched 6 months ago), I find the task switcher animation in KDE extremely obnoxious, as I expect it to pop up instantly.

Still, I enjoy the other animations in KDE, so I don't want to turn off all the animations in the global settings.

I searched for a solution but all the relevant posts were on the now defunct KDE subreddit which I cannot view.

Is there any way to turn off just the fade in/fade out animation?

I made a theme for Lemmy that can be applied using the https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/styl-us/ extension for FireFox!

Features:

  • Rounded corners
  • More color variety
  • More color depth
