In that case I would pickup a cheap USB Ethernet dongle (or 2 if the laptop doesn't have an onboard one)

Wall > Ethernet 1 and router > Ethernet 2

Configure windows to share Ethernet 1 connection to Ethernet 2 (Builtin functionality since Windows 7 iirc)

Configure the router for minimal power to the radios, use your laptop to handle captive portal and there should be no DHCP interference concerns with the Windows laptop on the middle in this fashion

Boom done, congratulate yourself a lil for a small win over corporate greed lol

Looks like that model allows you to go down to 50% (Options are Low/50, medium/75 and full)

But looks like your router might be supported by openwrt, if you can get that working you can set the power as low as you want

OP already mentioned that the student WiFi is being run entirely by a third party ISP and they have more expensive paid plans for more than one device.

Guaranteed this isn't about running an optimal network (Though I'm sure if pressed about it they'll start spouting excuses similar to yours) and all about company greed and constant profit growth.

Can I reasonably run it at low power (since I only need it in my room) and not have it bother anyone?

Yes, this is one of those things that as long as you do it properly and don't interfere with anything nothing will happen

Reduce power to minimal levels, choose a band far away from the WiFi in your area (There are a number of WiFi scanning apps on the app stores) and ensure you plug in the Ethernet from the wall into the WAN port on the router so your router can handle DHCP without interfering with University DHCP networking (though it might make getting through the captive portal tricky)

them triangulating it to my room and starting a legal case or something sounds real scary.

It's also incredibly unlikely unless you're actually causing problems

If you really want wireless, do the Ethernet > Desktop/Laptop with hotspot and limit it's TX power WAY down to minimal levels.

You should be able to use it within your dorm room fine, but will have trouble penetrating beyond the walls and will also make detecting and triangulation quite difficult

trying to protect the paid plans they sell for connecting more than one device

It's definitely 90% of the reason

Accept the terms and ignore them

I mean, it's right there in the article lol

While Parker admits that their decision also has to do with having to wait "for Paramount to figure all their s--- out," Stone notes that skipping Trump is definitely "on purpose."

Looks at the entire networking stack

Yup (unfortunately)

People grow up on the shit tasting commercial crap or (shudders) Miracle Whip and then think all mayo tastes like it

I myself as a younger child fell into this and didn't really like Mayo until my preteen years when I realized that there's actually good tasting mayo out there

THREE WHOLE MEGABYTES

Me in 2024 holding a 4TB NVMe stick: Still not enough (it's never enough)

For something that I had to import from Germany because the RGB version wasn't being sold in the states at the time and was supposedly supposed to die within <2 years because the RGB made it run too hot, it lasted 5 years and 72 TBs written before a random power outage took it down. Even then, it was still able to allow me to dd it to another drive without issue

RIP :(

It was also actually pretty fun!

I've been on the fence on the Fold 2 ever since the aspect ratios/screen sizes were revealed.

On one hand, I really like the 0G folds short but wide passport form factor, it's the second biggest reason I held off getting one of those really narrow Galaxy Folds (biggest being, it's still a SamSuck lol) and the Fold 2s upcoming changes means the unfolded form is going to be pretty much a square

But on the other hand, I think it would be better for one of the biggest uses I use my Fold unfolded for: Remoting into various desktops, since the Fold 2 will be more like 2 8/9 regular pros next to each other it should allow for a bit better "widescreen" when rotated (I like to have the desktop screen on the top and the OSK on the bottom "laptop style") and even though it's a square it should be bigger overall

What are your guys thoughts on the Fold 2? Are you upgrading or waiting and seeing what the Fold 3 will look like (and the TSMC 3nm Tensor)

The tree is an adjoining neighbors backyard with large branches that come pretty close to my house (Though there is a sizable gap, if it comes down under the wrong wind direction...) and are actually touching another neighbors roof.

If it is unhealthy, is it recoverable? I'd rather not have them cut the whole thing down (it provides a lot of shade for my backyard (well, when it's healthy that is lmao)) Should I talk with them directly (I don't really know them, at all) or let the city know?

With Google Workspace cracking down on storage (Been using them for unlimited storage for years now) I was lucky to get a limit of 300TBs, but now I have to actually watch what gets stored lol

A good portion is uh "Linux ISOs", but the rest is very seldom (In many cases last access was years ago) accessed files that I think would be perfect for tape archival. Things like byte-to-byte drive images and old backups. I figure these would be a good candidate for tape and estimate this portion would be about 100TBs or more

But I've never done tape before, so I'm looking for some purchasing advice and such. I seen from some of my research that I should target picking up an LTO8 drive as it's compatible with LTO9 for when they come down in price.

And then it spiraled from there with discussions on library tape drives that are cheaper but need modifications and all sorts of things
