The Dems should be blocking all votes like the GOP did under Obama. Fuck them.

[-] crusa187@lemmy.ml 70 points 1 month ago

Unfortunately that’s not their job. They are bribed to ensure NDAA always goes through. Voter sentiment on yet another war for oil be damned.

Until we stop the legalized bribery this will not change.

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

Evidently voter sentiment isn't strong enough to vote for someone else!

The list of votes is here

This is far from an appearance issue. 18 Republicans also opposed the budget. If every Democrat had joined the 18 Republicans in saying no, this budget would not have been approved. Every politician -- Democrat or not -- who approved this budget needs to be voted out, no questions (if we get the chance). Primary the Democrats who voted "Yea".

"There's always money for bombs" but $900 Billion is absurd; and Democrats are screwing everyone over by encouraging this war. We do not want MAGA to have Wartime Powers. We do not want JD Vance, Stephen Miller, and Mike Johnson to have Wartime Powers.

Thank you for linking this, as this is indeed enraging but my oh my this is data gore if I have ever seen it...

Am I looking at a spreadsheet with the front panel unscrewed leaving all the wires hanging out or something?

This is usually by design to protect risky seats and give the impression that they were opposed for political points. In essence those 18 Republicans are only enabled to vote no because they know Dems are supporting this passing. If more Dems voted no, less Republicans would have.

This bill also removed the right to repair requirement for military contracts. So if that $100 million jet from Lockheed martin breaks then we have to pay them whatever they want to fix it.

This creates a great incentive for the military contractors to build quality durable hardware ...

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 50 points 1 month ago

The bill, which is now bound for the Senate and which authorizes more than $900 billion, includes “critical pro-Israel provisions,” according to AIPAC.

More genocide money. Fuck America and Israel.

[-] Avicenna@programming.dev 24 points 1 month ago

Not surprising, about %50 of democrats are impostors. They would easily switch to republican party if they riskrd losing their seats.

[-] Flamekebab@piefed.social 10 points 1 month ago

There's a reason we scoff at the notion of "far left" in US politics. Their options are right wing and fascist.

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

So anywhere from half-to a majority aren’t Democrats in your mind?

Sounds like that’s just what Democrats are and you’re struggling to come to terms with it.

[-] Montagge@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 month ago

You forget how conservative alot of democrats are and have been for decades.

[-] BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago

Guess US needs more oil huh

[-] mtpender@piefed.social 4 points 1 month ago

"Nah, I heard oil... THAT SHIT MINE!"

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago

Squares and Rectangles....

Every Republican is a corrupt politician, but not ever corrupt politician is a Republican.

The logical solution is getting rid of corrupt politicians regardless of party.

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 month ago

The House of Representatives is basically the Board of Directors for the American Military Industrial Complex

[-] aBundleOfFerrets@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

That implies they hold influence and aren’t just purchased pawns

Isn't this the spending authorization bill they pass every year since 1961? It's not specifically about Venezuela.

Notably among Democrats, it's mostly the New Democrat Coalition (older, moderate, Clinton era 3rd way) voting for this & the Congressional Progressive Caucus (newer, liberal, progressive) voting against it. They're a big tent party.

Vote New Democrat Coalition Congressional Progressive Caucus
Yea 62 22
Nay 18 59
[-] protist@mander.xyz 11 points 1 month ago

I want to know why those 18 Republicans voted against it

[-] subterfuge@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

They didn’t receive sufficient contributions from the military industrial complex?

[-] Montagge@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago

Just grabbing the first nay on the list which is Eli Crane. He appears to be a nationalist, which would make sense why he voted no. Still an undeserving piece of shit and a waste of limited resources.

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 7 points 1 month ago

I'm sad I'm still sometimes surprised at the depravity and shittyness of the US government and their violent, corrupt, evil handlers. They are the most evil people on earth running the most evil empire the world has ever seen. May they all burn in hell.

[-] TronBronson@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

I mean that’s unfortunately just the normal military budget lol. There’s no extra money in there for a war. That’s the peace time budget.

[-] plyth@feddit.org 6 points 1 month ago

Are they just going to bomb to make life miserable in Venezuela? There are not enough troops for an invasion.

Does this belong in this community? Honestly curious. Fits the format, but not the theme.

[-] Someone8765210932@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Oh, now the MIC does something? Strange, they seemed to be oddly quiet when it comes to Ukraine. I'm always a bit surprised the MIC isn't all in on sending both old military stock and newly developed stuff there for testing and recognition. So much money to be made. It can also be quite the advertisement if your 30-year-old tanks can crush the mighty modern Russian army. Including the invincible T14 Armata shown off in 2015.

This was their times to shine, and even the most hardened anti-war peace lovers would have been forced to thank them for it.

[-] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Well there was funding for Israel in it you see, so they had to.

[-] Naich@lemmings.world 2 points 1 month ago

It's not like there's anything better to spend the money on.

[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I wonder how much he's getting paid to for this or if this is all a favor for the previous "campaign contributions"?

[-] PissingIntoTheWind@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

This bill getting funding is a SOP vote. No one dares not pass this.
