I often think we should have a government office whose structure may be military like but they just go around doing everything that needs done. Like we pay people to sit around bases and occasionally push a button to blow up weddings. Why the fuck can't they be paid to fill in potholes, fix bridges, make trails, etc.

My region, a couple years back, put out PSAs to get people to return their empties to the Bottle Depots that were a weird mix of old WWII homefront "do your part" posters asking people to collect certain household trash and grow Victory Gardens, and modern spy film tropes.
