I should also note Venezuela is not exactly where the US wants it to be. The US wants Venezuela to be developing oil fields at a fevered pace for American profits, and despite all the press releases as far as I know not a single drilling rig has been transported. We also shouldn't be making sweeping declarations without actual information. The American empire is in slow inward collapse and playing the long game may turn out to be the right move. Even if it's not, it doesn't mean the people making the call are compradors.

I always thought his position at the London School of Economics was a little bit just the university collecting an "interesting" American oddball. That is to say, not that I think he's that, but that was the spirit of the hiring. Love that guy, his writing turned me on to anarchism in college.

I think it's probably true in a less targeted at anarchists sense, like if you're a vocal anarchist or Marxist you're probably not going to find it easy or even possible to have a career in academia. Richard Wolff has said in the past that the reason he focuses on co-ops as a path forward is that it's the furthest left position he thinks he can take while still having a career as an academic. To be a successful left academic, you kind of have to become compatible with the liberal capitalist paradigm.

I can't believe that anybody has watched the entire season of this truly dog shit show. The acting and writing are so bad, so horrendous that it isn't even funny bad. It's difficult to watch. I torrented the first episode not knowing what it was and only discovered who made it afterwards.
