It was more like a musing about "our age of bronze" coming to an end, during a monologue towards the end of the movie.
I haven't seen the movie, do they actually say "Our age of bronze is ending"?
Upon further research, it's actually "our age of bronze is collapsing", but yes. The people who watched the movie with me didn't find it as jarring as I did, but yeah, it's very odd
Idk I read the odyssey in High school & i think thought the movie does the epic part pretty well, the way they had the actors speak so directly was a fine way to condense the odyssey into 3 hours. I didn’t even see it in IMAX but it was still very visually captivating. Pattinson is a good example and Mia Goth, they were both very clear to read. I’m not saying it’s perfect by any means; it’s VERY Christoper Nolan, but again his movies are always fun for me so I do usually enjoy the ones I’ve watched. Like imagine if Homer wrote the Dark Knight I feel like his prose would be slightly Nolan-esque. lol.
Anyways if you want a better inception you should watch Paprika (2006) if you haven’t, p sure inception is based on it and it’s so much better it’s not even close. Whoever you are, watch Paprika.
I've read the Odyssey also and I don't mean the comparison with the original poem as a critique of the movie. I actually think the movie is an okay, maybe even good movie. I finished watching it last week thinking it an 8/10 movie, and stand by this rating even now.
I just think this one line about the age of bronze is a badly attempted fourth wall break. I get what they were going for with it, I just don't think they stuck the landing. But I really do think that, if you want to have fun for almost 3 hours, this is very far from being the worst way. Just don't think too much about where it was shot 💀
And yeah, I've yet to watch Paprika. I will, someday
I’m just kinda glazing it tbh I’ve been having a lot of fun at the theater lately, my gf and her sister turned me kinda into a movie guy, I’ve been going to the theater a lot this year and I’ve seen some really good shit, both at home and at the theater. It really made me wish I hadn’t missed both Sinners and The Substance in the theater, substance is my favorite modern movie. Obsession made me feel like when people talk about seeing crazy good movies back in the 80s & 90s, how the experience was unmissable. I feel like we’re finally getting back to that, odyssey was a pretty mature Nolan film and I love seeing directors not falling to enshittification.

The Odyssey was a well shot, well acted and well made film but it's very much a conservative film which makes the chud freakout over how"woke" it is even stupider

The other darkly ironic hypocrisy of the film lies in the vey notion of violating "Zeus's Law" despite that being the closest the it actually gets to being progressive or actually woke
The idea that Zeus would give a shit about honor is kinda hilarious to anyone who knows the first damn thing about Zeus, Zeus was a fucking asshole in all his mythology

First off Zeus is a fuckingremoved, like an unrepentant multiple offendingremoved, I'm pretty sure heremovedd his own mom even (kinda fucked Odipus still gets shit from everyone to this day when Zeus never does despite being waaay worse)
Also torturing Prometheus forever just for sharing a bit of the god's knowledge with humanity is objectively fucked up, if it weren't for Prometheus siding with him against the rest of the Titans Zeus never would've won his war against the Titans
Speaking of his war against the Titans, that was far from an honorable war and I would in fact say there are many parallels between Zeus and Odysseus in their dishonorable actions in their respective wars
The way Zeus overthrew his father the leader of the Titans to become the new king of the gods was almost exactly like the Trojan Horse itself only it was his father Cronus who was the Trojan Horse due to consuming his own children (as per the famous painting) in an attempt to prevent a prophecy that he would be overthrown by his children but in classic Geek mythology fashion turning it into a self fulfilling one
That and Hades is explicitly said to use a helmet that made him invisible during the war fightingfor his bother Zeus, I can't think of a more dishonorable tactic by Odysseus's standards
Now if it were called Athena's Law maybe it would mean a bit more
Either way the only real good message from the film is is that we the west and specifically 
violated some sacred law of humanity and the gods through our objectively dishonorable actions in all of our wars
The ancient Greeks did not have our attitudes towards consent, women's personhood etc. Zeus is, even at his worst, still a righteous force. Even when he is acting against humanity at large. Even when he brought us all disease and death, he did so because we were wrong to think ourselves above our stations.

No, it is Zeus' law. Zeus is upholder of laws in Greek understanding, and especially he is the protector of guests. Athena is also just as evil by any objective reckoning as Zeus is, possibly worse. Her treatment of women in particular is abhorrent. Arachne and Medusa specifically.

Greek military tactics consisted in part of what we remember from school, movies and videogames, i.e. citizen soldiers standing in front of each other with spears assisted by poor people throwing shit standing in front of one another until one side decided it wasn't really worth dying for this.
But it also consisted of slave raids. A favored tactic of the Greeks (And other mediterranean cultures, but oh so very much the Greeks) for literal millennia was to take your boat, look around for a city that wasn't all that well defended, jump in, kill a bunch of people, and sail away with a bunch of slaves.. Think vikings but literate.
You may recognise this tactic if you really think about it, because it's what Odysseus did, the illiad and the Odyssey both speak of this as a totally fine thing to do. This just keeps being a thing the ancient Greeks do from the bronze age, through their dark age, keep on trucking with through much of the classical age, briefly stop doing because Alexander think it's uncool, return to doing for their Hellenistic period and finally give up on when the Romans end independent Greece as a going concern.
This was so much a thing that it shaped the geography of the entire area. It is why so many of the major cities of otherwise naval cultures of the regions aren't port cities, because the Greeks (And others, but oh boy the Greeks) are going to come and sack that shit and take the survivors as slaves. Did you never ask yourself why Athens had a strong navy but no fucking port, why Rome is landlocked. To safeguard from the frequent pirate raids cities were built inland, and a secondary town to handle port business was established at the actual coast and these cities tended not to grow too big because if they did it would be a prime target.
Over time they gradually added more and more traditional "I'm going from my boat to your boat to take the stuff on your boat over to my boat" style piracy to the mix, until entire military alliances were formed just to ward off all the fucking pirates because no individual state was capable of matching the pirate fleets.
Meanwhile they have an entire intellectual class waxing philosophical about whether non-greeks are truly capable of ethical consideration, being as they were lower life forms and natural slaves who not only deserved it but actually were in their natural state being ruled by Greeks.

If your guys are busy doing raids they are not fighting your war of conquest. By the end of his war of conquest, the obvious targets are also part of his empire. You don't want one city raiding another city when both are YOUR CITIES and you've probably attempted to rename them both Alexandria.

Athens actually had a port Piraeus and long walled corridor, connecting Athens to it. Cities were built inland, because they were built on hills, which were much easier to defend.

Cities in other places were built on hills for the same reason - it is more defensible position, and it was important, because they fought each other constantly. Pirate raids were an important, but secondary threat.

Greeks still considered Prometheus based, even though he was blatantly breaking Zeus' orders.
He certainly wasn't subject to damnatio memoraie or anything, but he was also not, as far as I know, the object of any independent religious activity. Prometheus wasn't worshipped or invoked for blessing independently. Only as an aspect of Athena (I think it was Athena).
You can't hate the guy who brought you fire and established religion. But Zeus was Zeus.
