Can Americans explain whats happening over there

Everyone knew the system was failing, but no one could imagine any alternative to the status quo. Politicians and citizens alike were resigned to maintaining the pretense of a functioning society. Over time, the mass delusion became a self-fulfilling prophecy, with everyone accepting it as the new norm rather than pretend.

Politicians, financiers and technological utopians gave up on trying to shape the complex "real world". Instead, they established a simpler "fake world" for the benefit of multi-national corporations and kept stable by neoliberal governments. Political technologists create mass confusion, turning politics into a bewildering piece of theatre.

For anyone else wondering this is from Adam Curtis' documentary film Hypernormalisation.

[-] Asafum@feddit.nl 19 points 2 months ago

Ahhhhh thank you! As I was reading it I was like wtf man I know I know this from somewhere!

[-] LENINSGHOSTFACEKILLA@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago

this looks like a banger, saved to watch later.

[-] sexywheat@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

Almost everything Adam Curtis has done has been chefs-kiss

The Century of Self and The Power of Nightmares are also really good docuseries that he made.

The only work of his that I really didn't like was TraumaZone. I watched only the first video in the series and it came off to me as extremely anti-communist.

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

One thing I remember from this though, it's pretty anti-communist isn't it? Wasn't the whole "hypernormalization" theory from how "evil" the CCCP was and apparently always lied about literally everything? It's been awhile since I've watched it though...

[-] sexywheat@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

It's been a while since I watched it, but IIRC he does draw some parallels between the end of the Soviet Union and the current era under Trump.

To be fair, the USSR wasn't doing so hot in their final years if I am not mistaken. But Adam Curtis is certainly no communist, wouldn't be surprised if he slipped in a few jabs.

So strange seeing Department of War instead of Department of Defense. DoD is such an iconic acronym.

Sign up for the military so you can use Uncle Sam's dollars to flood the Internet with photos of Charlie Kirk with the face altered to random sizes

I'm going to generate the best Pig Poop Balls in service of this country

[-] oscardejarjayes@hexbear.net 20 points 2 months ago

We're gonna generate Pig Poop Balls—tremendous, beautiful Pig Poop Balls. The best anyone's ever seen, okay? And it's all in service of our great country. Nobody generates Pig Poop Balls like I do, believe me. Nobody.

No higher mission than crashing the Internet with the most detailed, highest-resolution PPB that Computer God can dream of.

Next, they can change the shape of the building and call it The Octagon.

[-] oscardejarjayes@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

knowing them, they'd call it the Octagon, but they wouldn't actually make it an Octagon.

[-] Goblinmancer@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

The tool has garnered widespread attention online from both the public and military personnel. A military source with access to the platform, who spoke to Straight Arrow News on the condition of anonymity, said that personnel have already begun testing the chatbot’s boundaries.

Courtesy of stormfront/r/AirForce:

SAN’s source issued a similar prompt [to that post] to the chatbot in an effort to verify the post’s claims. The source said they were given a response that likewise described the actions as illegal.

Isn't this thing gonna be like...hilariously vulnerable to prompt injection, prone to hallucinations, liable to render troops and officers less capable of critical thinking, and just a generally massive liability in a huge number of other ways?

[-] jack@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago

thankfully yes

[-] john_brown@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

hell yeah, get Gemini to design a new destroyer and blow billions of dollars to create a non-euclidian boat that won't float

[-] insurgentrat@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago

Is this actually real? Can anyone provide proof?

Didn't they just pay to get Grok in the US government?

Is just every AI chatbot relying on the US government to cover their costs now?
