Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

MODERATORS

There were two “Reigns of Terror,” if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the “horrors” of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror—that unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

The Country of the Week is Palestine! Feel free to chime in with books, essays, longform articles, even stories and anecdotes or rants. More detail here.

Here is the map of the Ukraine conflict, courtesy of Wikipedia.

The weekly update is here.

The bulletins site is down.

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists

Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Add to the above list if you can.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Last week's discussion post.

Russia to build nuclear plant to meet Burkina Faso's energy needs (BBC, 13.10.2023)

Burkina Faso is one of the least electrified countries globally, with only 21% of people connected to power.

It is shocking how some people can treat the grief and suffering of other people so disrespectful.

From a Twitter post made by the Zionist entity's self-styled "embassy" in Copenhagen as comment to a video of masked men wearing Palestinian colors removing flowers that local residents sympathetic to the apartheid regime has put at the "embassy".

The tweet was posted while the occupation regime's air force was conducting terror bombings of civilian Palestinians in retaliating for the Al-Aqsa Flood.

Shoot and cry is easily one of the most disgusting forms of propaganda.

sorry but as non-palestinan’s it’s just not your place to lose hope or faith when palestinian’s resistance persists with unshakable and unparalleled love for their land and this life. solidarity requires sustaining hope against every odd

yes, do question how you will reconcile with the world as you know it. it should be crystal clear: nothing in your life is worth keeping if it’s at the expense of expressing whole and unwavering solidarity with them. may our faith with the resistance exceed our meaningless fears

For all you doomers

The World Uyghur Congress is wholly on the side of Israel and still coping about Xinjiang, standing on the collapsed high-rises and bodies of a city the size of Nelson Mandela Bay.

Erdogan claims the US has been training and arming all terrorist groups at some 20 military bases in Syria, and turning entire Middle East into a bloodshed by unleashing them.

Also accused the US of planning to carry out massacres in Gaza by sending aircraft carrier group to Israel.

Things are getting really fucking spicy between Turkey and the US.

From the resistance telegram, wish they would link the poll when they send out stuff like this

🚨 According to a recent poll, 90% of the settlers who evacuated the Gaza envelope have decided not to return, even if the war were to end.

Lmao btw, turns out settlers really don’t want to fight for “their” land

The music festival organisers also tried to secure a spot in the Korean DMZ, Nagorno-Karabakh, Bakhmut and the Serbia-Kosovo border. Unfortunately as those were all booked, they had to settle for a spot next to Gaza.

over/under on Israel not actually doing a ground offensive in Gaza and just bombing it to smithereens for weeks on end, so as to not incite a regional war (at the request of the United States if nothing else)?

if all these proposed actions by various groups are conditional on a ground offensive then if I was Israel then I would just try and set a new world record for the number of bombs dropped per square inch for the next few months and not go in

Looking increasingly likely that the festival was the site of an actual military battle, complete with Israeli tanks present. Image is sfw

There's also a video of the battle going around but I'm going to refrain from posting it here.

Hamas is so utterly stupid and incompetent that they invoked Da Plan: Kill All Schoolchildren!!1! on a Saturday. Almost as stupid as Putler blowing up his own pipeline.

(do NOT ask how this "stupid" force bypassed billions of dollars worth of surveillance equipment and killed hundreds of IDF troops with almost no pushback for hours)

The BBC is pushing back against the "Hamas are terrorists" narrative after liberals criticised them for never calling Hamas "terrorists".

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-67083432

If you combine this with the map of countries in the world that recognise Palestine, you can build a narrative that could convince some of your lib friends that the correct interpretation of Hamas is that they are a national army of a country (Palestine) recognised by countries representing a population of 80% of the world. That calling them "terrorists" is fundamentally incorrect.

I genuinely think combining the respect the libs have for the BBC with this point will actually do some very real damage to the "they're terrorists" narrative.

I'm pretty freaked out by France announcing that they will deport any foreign nationals caught not wishing death and destruction upon innocent Palestinian children. How long until all Western countries are just deporting or imprisoning everyone who isn't foaming at the mouth for perpetual war against Russia, Palestine, and China? Is this really the freedom the West claims to be a bastion of? Please for the love of Socialism, stay safe out there, comrades. And don't dox yourselves.

Iran sent a message to Israel on Saturday stressing that it does not want further escalation in the Hamas-Israel war, but that it will have to intervene if the Israeli operation in Gaza continues, two diplomatic sources with knowledge of the situation told Axios.

https://www.axios.com/2023/10/14/iran-warning-israel-hezbollah-hamas-war-gaza

That's another power directly stating that they will get involved if a ground operation begins.

Meanwhile, the average r/worldnews lib is still cheering this shit on. My God, the West is fucked. agony-deep

The funny-clown-hammer reddit-logo now has a post saying the baby beheadings have been confirmed. Their proof is Biden said he saw videos. I am not joking, that was literally all it took, and they are shocked that anyone would ask for actual evidence instead of believing the President of the United States.

I work in an entertainment union and it’s scary how my liberal Jewish superiors become genocidal overnight. No context, no understanding of colonialism/the nakba, no knowledge of the Palestinian resistance, just a bunch of first world white people who get to be “scared” and “threatened” because they think hamas/Iran “want to kill all Jews. They just want to kill Jews, they don’t want peace, they don’t want a second state”

Insane cope to justify genocide, but whatever helps you sleep at night on your bed of brown children corpses

I hate liberal politics. Israel does not have a "right to defend itself", colonies don't even have a right to exist. Every adult Israeli who does not oppose the state of Israel is complicit in the genocide of the Palestinian people.

Guy on Aljazeera saying Biden's speech sounded like he'd been manipulated by Netanyahu, as though America is not just as insatiably bloodthirsty and racist in its own right. That shit was straight out of the Bush playbook. Netanyahu didn't have to manipulate a damn thing.

I frequent a football forum and the "world news" thread started kicking off with the Palestinian Israel situation. It started off way too "both sides" so I jumped in with a fuck load of links to the heinous shit Israel has committed over the last few years along with something like "with shit like this it's no wonder Hamas has been able to recruit."

The forum thread took a hard pro Palestine turn. There was a couple of pro Israel posters in the thread making the normal antisemitic accusations and general bullshit and their arguments were getting utterly destroyed by pretty much everyone in the thread.

Posting works folks. Make sure you push back, particularly in smaller online communities where it's easier to get through and discuss one on one, you will change minds even if it's not the person you're engaging with. People are absorbing propaganda by osmosis. Its so important to push back when you have the opportunity.

Pretty clear that they're trying to do genocide through ethnic cleansing, they don't even hide it:

https://streamable.com/4zb0as

Ex-Israeli Deputy Foreign minister & senior Israeli diplomat Daniel Ayalon to Al-Jazeera about the question over the future of the 2 Million Palestinians in Gaza:

AJE broadcaster:

— “So you are saying that they can only go to Egypt?”

Danny:

— “Yes. Where else can they go?”

AJE broadcaster:

— “Israel.. can’t they? You want to save them but not letting them in and k*ll them. Don’t smile sir, respectfully”

When he smiles:
