I tried to find a better source but there wasn't one. The article is at the Bulwark which is Bill Kristol's lib-funded shitrag. I ran out of space in the title. if he does - it will be by the end of the month. See the bit in bold.

Will Trump Invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807 Next? - thebulwark.com

The White House did not respond to a request for comment on whether Trump will invoke the Insurrection Act before April ends.

The Insurrection Act of 1807, which allows the president to deploy U.S. armed forces and the national guard against Americans in situations of civil unrest, was last invoked in 1992 to put down the Rodney King riots after the four white police officers who were filmed beating King were acquitted. The nonpartisan Brennan Center has called the law “dangerously overbroad and ripe for abuse.”

[...]

As a reminder, the executive order declaring a national emergency at the southern border framed what is happening there as an “invasion” that threatens “America’s sovereignty” as part of its justification for Trump’s decrees.

“This whole strategy from Trump is really based on the demonization of immigrants and the idea we’re being invaded as justification of all executive orders that are trampling on our civil rights and freedoms,” Vanessa Cárdenas, the executive director of immigrant rights group America’s Voice, told The Bulwark. “They’ve been demonizing immigrants for a long time to psychologically prepare people for these actions, and we need to reject and denounce it.”

Insurrection Act of 1807 - wikipedia.org

The Insurrection Act of 1807 is a United States federal law that empowers the president of the United States to deploy the U.S. military and federalized National Guard troops within the United States in particular circumstances, such as to suppress civil disorder, insurrection, or rebellion.

What would be the point though? There is zero resistance to the regime's fascism in its current form, making it an explicit dictatorship can only create problems for them by giving life to resistance.

If I were a fascist running the USA at this point of time, I would simply go with the tried and tested Democrats way, going full Third Reich as far as economics and imperialism go, but keep the Law and Civility™ aesthetics and some tiny treats to the working class every now and then.

In any case I hope all of you in the US to be safe, things are looking very fucking grim

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 week ago

What would be the point though?

I think there are two things.

Trump decides to push things to 11 because he's unhinged, deluded, and impatient to rule the US with an iron fist. I think it's possible that the assassination attempt broke his brain completely and nearly broke his connection to reality. And once he got reelected - he started to think of himself as an Übermensch.

If he invokes the act, etc - I think the GOP won't stop him in any way, shape, or form. The most they'll do is tell the media they are "very concerned". If Trump continues on his insane path and I think he will - election day next year will* be the biggest bloodbath for the GOP ever. The US economy will be wrecked. And via doge/Elon - Trump will have defunded Medicare, Medicare, and Social Security. Plus Trump will have defunded and/or damaged other large parts of the federal government.

*If elections are free and fair. I think they won't be in the red states.

The question is, are these people competent enough to understand that

Trump sets himself up as the fall guy for austerity and the controlled opposition party gets to keep his cuts without all the negative media attention.

This happens in the Republic of Samsung and Housing Debt every couple of years.

[–] [email protected] 55 points 1 week ago (6 children)

Suppose he activates the military.

There's not enough military to continue adventurism and suppress cities. Even if you called up all the national guards. Like a few cities could be covered tightly maybe, but not all of them.

You'd have to start calling up "militias" and shit. That shit isn't gonna be as disciplined as the regular military.

Sounds like a dumbass recipe to all the sudden lose control and balkanize the whole country.

Hell, California is already talking about inking independent trade deals with foreign countries.

There's a point at which I think certain states will just start ignoring the feds.

Either way, it's not gonna be fun for us smallfolk.

[–] [email protected] 51 points 1 week ago

This was already done during the george floyd protests. Theyll give cops military gear and use them. The cops will just be given a blanket "do what you have to do" order and face no consequences for mass violence.

There's a point at which I think certain states will just start ignoring the feds.

I don't think so. But all of this is a guessing game. Still - I'm certain people like Gavin Newsom won't do that. He's surely dreaming of becoming president in 2028. And I think he's going to keep moving to the right.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 1 week ago (3 children)

The primary way the federal government maintains control (aside from belief) is money.

These dumbasses have already started yanking all the funding they felt like they could get away with. If that keeps going, they'll burn all the methods of control except force and they just don't have enough.

Hell, Gavin is a giant reactionary turd, but he's not dumb, he's had to have considered the possibility of being king shit of the Republic of California.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 week ago

they just don't have enough.

You may be right. Unfortunately - we might learn the answer in the coming months. A very important deadline is coming up soon. Trump's DOJ has until midnight Monday to return a guy kidnapped in the US and sent to the El Salvador horror prison due to an "administrative error". I'm 99+% sure that the guy won't be returned and that will be the beginning of Trump totally ignoring the courts. We'll see.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think it was Felix that once said “Gavin Newsome has a better chance of being Supreme Leader of the California Imperium than President of the United States” and that has really stuck with me

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

I don't think he's wrong there. I don't see Newsome winning a national election. Actual leftists hate him (and the rest of the Democrats) and everyone else thinks "Commifornia"

This causes an immediate civil war.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

If the federal government is sending in troops and deputizing paramilitaries you’re already there

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Maybe he'll run for president of West America

Was that a region in that stupid Civil War movie? It's kind of funny. I sort of read an article about it and I read some posts here about it. It seemed like utter shit. The part of my brain that controls memory decided that the movie wasn't worth remembering. I totally forgot about it as if it came out a decade ago or something.

I seriously can't remember a thing about it other than Kirsten Dunst is in it and Alex Garland wrote it and... That's all I remember.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago

All I remember of it is that journalists are the real heroes, pictures are exactly like bullets, and that any mention of politics would get in the way of a civil war movie.

He should have done a Fatal Frame movie instead.

Random aside, but Battle Angel Alita did the wartime-journalist-as-voyeur side story better!

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago

Was that a region in that stupid Civil War movie?

I watched it and honestly? They don't go too deep into it. It's just a vague vibes based setting.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago

It's ideologically incoherent but it did give us this meme which makes me laugh.

Federal+State+local police and sheriff's departments, ICE, FBI, IRS agents, there's lots of armed agents of the government that could be drafted without even activating militias. The US is a police state.

i usually spell that word "freikorps"

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 week ago

That's a completely different spelling

Looks like all that peaceful protesting really did the trick!

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I just saw this Bluesky comment a minute ago. I had to read it twice because I couldn't figure out what they meant exactly.

A key strategic problem with talking about a “liberal counterinsurgency” as if it’s a BAD thing: I can guarantee you the vast majority of the protesters out there yesterday think that’d be a very GOOD thing and would be totally mystified by this phrasing.

https://subium.com/profile/faineg.bsky.social/post/3lm4fizrilk2a

Even after reading it twice - like I was cheating on a test - I had to look at the comments because I still wasn't getting it. I should be better at solving these Bluesky lib puzzles. But I just can't get used to the particular Bluesky libs who want very badly to punch left proudly and openly. But but some reason (It's uncouth?) they don't. Instead they cover their superiority and Olympic medal-class self-righteousness with odd elliptical phrasing. In my entire life - I've never seen such stuff anywhere else but at Bluesky.

My wild guess is that OP must have seen a leftist "liberal counterinsurgency" joke and they got real mad about it. Or maybe that didn't actually happen in reality. It only happened in their own head. But they still got real mad about it anyway.

---

Edit

I guess somebody did make a "liberal counterinsurgency" joke after all!

A reply

That account is pure tankie trash

I have no idea what "that account" is.

Edit-edit

Yeesh. Lots of terrible anti-leftist "humor" and "all politics is sexual pathology" in this thread.

I am definitely going to regret asking this but wtf is "liberal counterinsurgency"

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I hadn't heard the term before but "liberal counterinsurgency" seems to mean "libs taking over and neutralizing movements."

This article uses the 2020 George Floyd protests as an example. Civility libs took over and helped neutralize it.

https://itsgoingdown.org/police-and-liberal-counterinsurgency/

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago

Civility libs took over and helped neutralize it.

No wonder they are so mad. It's how things are supposed to be in their minds. How dare anybody not agree or even worse - make fun of that? "Building coalitions" is the lib version of solidarity. Which means we do what 100% of what they they want and we get nothing in return.

I found the recent post @faineg was complaining about.

Those 50501 rallies reek of liberal counterinsurgency... [short thread]

People’s City Council - Los Angeles @pplscitycouncil.bsky.social‬ https://bsky.app/profile/pplscitycouncil.bsky.social/post/3llzfot2o3k22

If only the libs hated the GOP as much. @faineg makes truly sad and pathetic posts. They are an interesting person. Their "in group" way of talking and their "out group" form is - to say the least - entirely different. I feel like I overhead a very private conversation of somebody who is unhinged. I almost feel guilty or something.

this post reeks of a loser pissbaby being mad that other people are actually doing something

waaaaahhhh I’m not the supreme King of Protesting waaahhhhhh

waaaahhhhh ladies who remind me of my mom are out there waaahhhhhh

Good trouble!

Volley after volley of assault fire erupts. One of Trump's heavily armed goons goes deadpan and then says "Dead trouble." After a beat - the rest all laugh and laugh and laugh.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 week ago

I feel like if "They" don't fire the first shot, it'll be over before it begins.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 week ago

Peaceful protesting and vote ! Decorum and the status quo prevails!

[–] [email protected] 40 points 1 week ago (2 children)

This feels very relevant.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/dec/21/curtis-yarvin-trump

Yarvin suggests that a would-be American autocrat should campaign on and win an electoral mandate for an authoritarian program. They should purge the federal bureaucracy in a push Yarvin has anagrammatized as Rage (for “retire all government employees”).

They should simply ignore any court rulings that seek to constrain them. They should bring Congress to heel, in part by mobilizing their populist base against recalcitrant lawmakers. And liberal or mainstream media organizations and universities should be summarily closed.

Given the post-election period and Trump’s preparation for a return to the White House, Yarvin’s program seems less fanciful then it did in 2021, when he laid it out for Anton.

In the recording of that podcast, Yarvin offers a condensed presentation of his program which he has laid out on Substack and in other venues.

Midway through their conversation, Anton says to Yarvin, “You’re essentially advocating for someone to – age-old move – gain power lawfully through an election, and then exercise it unlawfully”, adding: “What do you think the actual chances of that happening are?”

Yarvin responded: “It wouldn’t be unlawful,” adding: “You’d simply declare a state of emergency in your inaugural address.”

Yarvin continued: “You’d actually have a mandate to do this. Where would that mandate come from? It would come from basically running on it, saying, ‘Hey, this is what we’re going to do.’”

Oh shit. That Mencius Moldbug? Wow. Feels like eons ago when I remembered reading about him in a Popehat blog in my lib days.

Dude is absolutely unhinged. No wonder he's a thought-leader among the right.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Has been for 20 years now. He was perhaps the central popularising voice of Neo-reaction. Which was nerd shit, but dumbed down was at the core of the Alt Right

that should be replaced by an accountable monarchy, similar to the governance structure of corporations.
