Fucking right? I need to get better at linux. My mint install keeps crashing in weird ways but i haven't cared enough to fix it.
I'm lucky in that almost all software i use that isn't games is foss already.
Fucking "ai"
Hey what if you had a personal assistant who couldn't do anything right and was always slpurnned out of their mind on halucinogens?
Hey what if you had a personal assistant who couldn't do anything right and was always slpurnned out of their mind on halucinogens?
i'd be okay with this if they were human tbh
Hi :-)
We installed an update while you were asleep. Do you want to upgrade to Windows 11? How about sign in to your Microsoft account? Oh, I see, well we turned all of the ads and tracking back on so have fun finding the settings page to turn them off again!
buried in a microsoft support forum post somewhere:
we also moved where that settings page is. enjoy
Why I switched to Fedora earlier this year,
I still technically dual boot with Windows, but I didnt boot it for months now,
The biggest stumbling block I had was gaming, but frankly it kinda is smooth sailing on Linux nowadays, I even got Escape from Tarkov to run on my machine, which wasnt really guaranteed, and I don't have any problem using Steam (or GOG through Lutris)
I will probably just completely get rid of Windows in the future
also this will be useful
"How to install FitGirl or DODI Windows repacks in Linux using Lutris."
using windows is basically like having a fed standing behind you at all times but also the fed likes to gossip with anyone that asks
but the most annoying part is that the fed is also trying to gossip with you while you're trying to do shit on your computer
Might I entice you to try maybe a Linuc or two?
I haven't even read the comments am I'm 100% sure it's been flooded by the illinuxati being like "hah, you use a WINDOWS?"
Fuckers installed co-pilot on mine when I was away and now my laptop has "no available device" for audio out. Like there's no option in settings for the speakers. Can't even plug in an audio cord. Nothing. They broke my shit and installed AI
This would genuinely disrupt my business to a wild degree . Like cost me thouuuusands
Please, for your own sake and sanity, try Fedora. You can test drive it on a live disc.
Can I honestly ask why you choose Fedora over other distros? I have no sway either way because I've simply heard nothing in particular about Fedora in years. So, I'm curious why a Fedora user is a Fedora user.
It's probably the most polished non-enterprise distro. I avoid anything based on Ubuntu like the plague, though.
I'm curious why a Fedora user is a Fedora user.
They're a Fedora user because they use Fedora
M’lady
to be fair they named it way before those people made fedoras cringe
It's named that because Fedora is the community spinoff of Red Hat, which has a fedora in its logo.
my partner @[email protected] was last on windows 10, we finally got them a new laptop and they were so against windows 11 we installed linux and they’re taking to it so so well
like usually when i help someone install linux i am literally running tech support for 6 months
I recently switched to linux mint and have had no serious issues at all. In fact I like it more than windows and it isn't full of crap and spyware
I'm so glad I switched to Linux full-time years ago when Proton dropped.
I swear I'm switching to Linux when they stop supporting Win 10
Why wait? Buy a cheap ass laptop and have it as a Linux machine.
Whats that quote about the best time to start doing something is a decade ago, the second best time is now?
Anyways, it will be easier to switch if you have a working machine with Win10 instead of waiting for your machine to shit the bed while upgrading to 11
I got 10 years until steam drops win10, if win7 is any guide
Linux is the only option.
Not because FOSS is glorious and the most communist your computer can be without violating the DMCA. Though it is also that, and you can seed generously from a machine running Linux.
Not because Linux is much better lately. It is BTW.
Not because using a system that is designed intelligently and respects you as a fucking adult and might not always be easy to use, but won't generally fight you, so solving problems feels collaborative rather than like youre a persecuted victim about to have everything you just learned and built crushed with the next patch feels really good and generally is an improving cool experience. Though, I mean, that should be enough on its own, right?
But because capitalism is in late stage decline and everything it touches is going to turn to shit and exploit you and surveil you and coerce you and infantipize the fuck out of you and you'll have to get on your knees and crush yourself in terrible ways to check your fucking email or you'll have to fight it tooth and nail every god damn inch fighting a different system each time you want to check your fucking email or see a naked picture of a hot person-even one they took for and sent to you directly.
my pc is perfectly fine but they're going to EoL next year forcing people to buy new computers they shouldn't have to
maybe 2025 will finally be the year of linux on the desktop
We're going to keep installing clippies until you get the point :bill-gates:
universal paperclippy machine
Operation Paperclippy
my machine won't even run that so they can't get me
https://atlasos.net/ windows mod that does a clean modified install to cut out most of the malware, uses half the ram and up to 10% less idle cpu of bloated default windows, uses official win10 or win11 iso files, still need a product key
https://wubuntu.org/ ubuntu that has a cloned windows ui to help ease transition (if switching is an option)
If I switch to Linux will all the programs I use for Uni/work be fucked? (Teams, Word, Excel, R, etc)
I don't know about Teams, but Word and Excel can be replaced with LibreOffice, files made in MS Office are compatible
teams has a web app.
Libre office is a pretty good replacement for the Windows office suite, though I will say that Excel is a little nicer than its Libre office counterpart. You could try them out on your current system to see how they work out for you. R has a bunch of linux compatible versions though I am not so sure about Teams being able to run on such systems, there is a possibility that one might be able to run it using compatibility tools like WINE but I do not have any experience with Teams so I cant really say.
Addendum: it looks like microsoft just rolled out a version of teams for linux that is more or less up to speed with the ones for windows. Also important to mention is that there is a possibility that the security systems your organizations use might have compatibility issues so thats something to research and/or ask people in the IT department about.
R should just work straight up better on Linux.
My laptop doesn't meet the system requirements
I literally just bricked my computer trying to update to W11. My drive doesnt want to convert from mbr to gpt
Did you use some tool to create a GPT partition? It isn't bricked if it's just a bootloader issue.
My laptop is already on linux but my desktop is still windows because of inertia.
Fortunately, windows update has been defeated by having no room on C:\ because everything puts shit in appdata no matter what drive I tell it to install to
It's so fucking bad.
I'm sure there is a way to completely disable it with apps like Winaero Tweaker. Luckily, I don't have a CPU with "AI", so I don't have to be annoyed by Copilot.
