Only librewolf and tor browser are free software. The rest are irrelevant.

firefox hits the sweet spot between "actually decent browser that has useful features" and "well known enough that people don't switch off when i start talking about it" so i will keep using it and just ignore the pocket stuff

I personally use librewolf which turns off a the shit i want to turn off in firefox but also disables mozillas tie in products.

As someone who has to cross-browser test stuff, I cannot endorse calling a WebKit-based browser “Chrome”

Do people still pretend DDG is somehow more private than the other search engines? It’s not open source and I don’t think they ever got audited either lol. I guess that’s why I only see people talking about it bringing up uncensored results rather than privacy thử days, and even that’s questionable

DDG has censored searches regarding Russia SMO. I personally use their html version (html.duckduckgo.com) since it loads no proprietary code and just gets me search results. Half of which will just be links to forums like stack overflow and reddit.

It's just a front end for Bing. Results are taken from there mainly, and they have a partnership with Microsoft. There was an attempt to exclude microsoft ad tracking id from the 'privacy' filters of DDG.

It's nearly impossible for a small company to have a crawler and store that enormous data.

Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time...

Safari isn't Chrome, not that it's necessarily good on its own but it is good in the sense that it challenges Chrome's near browser monopoly

Opera is owned by some VC vultures and has profited off predatory micro loans in developing nations. It's way more suspicious that Vivaldi(chrome with minor UI improvements)

has profited off predatory micro loans in developing nations

Wait what? How's that even possible?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

It's not just possible, it's widespread.

(TBH it was never very convincing that these capitalists were going to help poor people by extracting their wealth.)

Fine, I'll bite: what librewolf does better than Firefox?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 6 months ago

best privacy settings enabled by default, and also no ties to mozilla and pocket

Lynx users stay winning

I don't understand opera GX. Why.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 months ago

I want to take a moment and thank our sponsor opera gx for sponsoring todays video.

Seriously, what the fuck makes a browser a 'gaming' browser?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

Cringy theming and allegedly less system use (but it’s Chromium so kind of a losing battle). God I hate gamer shit.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Did I miss the news on why Vivaldi is "Suspicious"?

[–] [email protected] 26 points 6 months ago

Vivaldi is not open source yet they claim to be the freest and most customizable browser.

Their article explaining why they aren't libre is full of weak sauce misleading statements about muh branding and also very hypocritical considering they only exist because of open source projects.

I highly recommend against them. If you have to use chromium then use ungoogled chromium. Otherwise just use firefox and its forks.
