I mean, that’s exactly what they’re here for. They’re just getting back to their historic roots is what it sounds like to me.

I’ve had well over 100 FF tabs running. Multiple plex encoders/streams running at once with the FF tabs, two VMs, music streaming, everything. Bottleneck is always the CPUs/motherboard. I’ve always run Linux and never been a g*mer so graphics has never been an issue. ram utilization never got about 25-30% before it would shit the bed. It’s a z620 workstation with dual Xeon e5-2600v2’s. Ancient at this point. I have all eight ram slots populated w 24gb sticks of ddr3 ecc ram. Six in the main motherboard and two on the 2nd CPU’s daughter board. I got them for like 8 bucks a stick off eBay. I’ll never use it all, and I’ll never use it as it was intended for- mine was originally outfitted with dual quadro 4000’s in SLI.

It’s huge. It’s heavy. It’s loud. It’s hot. During the wintertime I just pop the side door off the case and heat my bedroom w it. It’s old and outdated but it still works when I turn it on so I’m gonna use it til it dies.

As oft repeated, the US government doesn’t like when its potential spying capacity is muscled in on by others.

The need is as prevalent as ever. A downturned economy doesn’t mean things no longer break or need repaired, it just means that now people can’t afford to fix what is broken.

The shop I work at just bumped its rates per hour, to ‘keep in line with what other service plumbers charge’. We just jumped from 125/hr for a plumber or 200/hr for a plumber and apprentice to 175/hr for a plumber and 275/hr for a plumber and apprentice. What was already stupidly expensive has become even more so. Just for me and my helper to show up, it’s nearly 300 bucks. That’s before I even fix the fucking problem. The fix is even more expensive.

I get a lot of work from people who’d rather have it done as side work by me for straight cash versus my employer being involved. Seems like greed is at an all time high.

I don’t regret having children but I do think about the mess me and my ilk are leaving them.

Economy is slowing drastically in south Texas. Lot of the other plumbers I know are being laid off or sent home early for days in a row. New construction has all but fallen off. I am the lead on three new homes and a half dozen or more remodels. All 3 new homes are on hiatus until beginning of the year due to cash flow Issues. Except for two remodels, all the others are on hold. Our daily service calls are dwindling down to a half a day or so’s worth of work daily. My neighbor pours concrete- he has been home every day this week, employees can’t use their tools because there isn’t shit to do.

Unemployment here is up anecdotally- due to being a tradie for so long most of the other folks I know are also tradesmen of some sort. I ran into a framing carpenter I’ve know for over 20 years who is working a second job as a gas station attendant just to have some money coming in. One of the painters I used to call to repair drywall after I cut walls open to fix plumbing is no longer painting, he went back to school to get certified to teach school.

Something is happening. I’m too dumb to understand it tho.

I am so very much not a gamer. I have one desktop that doesn’t have a GPU, and my workstation is running on an nvidia 730m that I pulled from a shitty Dell about 15 years ago I guess. Two gigs!

The workstation is packed to the gills with 192gb of ram tho. Whatever that’s worth.

Flags in user name. Paid for twatter checkmark.

Nobody of actual consequence beyond self perceived import, is what I see.

It’s ok to like Pearl Jam. It’s ok to not like them.

Maybe it has something to do with Singles. Who knows.

If it wasn’t for my mother and father letting me move back home afterwards at the age of 25, I’d have been homeless and I’m not sure I’d have gotten back on my feet. I was in a city away from home and nobody could get to my apartment to get my stuff. Eventually I got evicted and they tossed my shit on the side of the road there. I lost everything. Everything. Clothes, CDs, photos of friends and family and once in a lifetime experiences I was just blindly lucky to take part in. I left jail with 25-ish dollars in leftover commissary money, the clothes I got booked in wearing, and my ‘hard time’ cup. My hard time cup was a cheap plastic mug that I had taken a pocket calendar and glued to the cup. I marked my days with it. I stared at that cup a lot. They lost my wallet somehow so I couldn’t cash the check for 25 bucks to get food. Slept at the greyhound station while I was waiting for someone to pick me up and take me back to my folks to start over.

The original arrest was an overzealous Tx State Trooper who threatened me w mace to make me exit the car to begin with. He found a dime bags worth of Mexican brick weed in my sock because that’s where I tried stashing it when I panicked.

I’ve been homeless. I’ve squatted in the fifth ward in New Orleans. I’ve ridden trains. I’ve dumpster dived to eat more times than I can recall. But leaving jail with nothing, nobody, no way, and nowhere to go was more demeaning than being ignored for being homeless and dirty.

The war on drugs is a disgusting excuse to keep poor folks poor, to break apart families, to permanently disrupt lives and make slaves of those caught up in its trappings. Richard Nixon grave needs a fresh sprinkling of piss.

Well, how many?

edited to add -

so you know how in English, the rooster says cockadoodle doo, but in Spanish it’s kikiriki?

Does a train make different sounds in other countries? What a stupid American question to ask.

Just a little guy. A jumping spider has taken up residence around the sink/soap dish. This is the second or third time over just as many days I’ve seen it. I mentioned it to my daughter and she named it Emily.

Almost looks like it is flexing on its reflection in the soap dish but maybe that’s just me thinking it is. Who even knows what goes on in the mind of a soap dish spider.

I didn’t realize how powerful cat traps are. I set this one and went to use the restroom. Look what I returned to. The poor kitty is helpless against my machinations. God help her.

Welp. (hexbear.net)

At least it’ll be here Monday so I might score an extra day off. Three day weekend / hurricane party at my house. It’s not ocean front property right now but it might be come Monday.

Doe. A deer. A female deer.

White tail deer, maybe five years old. It’s called a White tail because when lifted up, the underside of the tail is completely white.

Went stomping around the bushes looking for a campsite near a lake and I found her and two companions munching grass near a road. The other two were skittish and bolted before I could get my phone pointed but this one let me get within 6-8 foot before walking into the brush slowly.

Also called Texas Virgin’s Bower apparently. Found while out wandering the south Texas scrub brush doing some hot weather camping.

Blubber blubber blubber!

I caught her sniffing my foot like some kind of hexbear freak.

Ive been awake for 8 days straight,
Well it must have them pills I took.
