I finished digital circus the other night. It was a really good ending.

spoilers for the show, if you haven't watched please go watch instead of clicking. My thoughts of the ending and the entire show.I was a bit worried for how the show would do Jax's ending. There was obviously some trans themes and stuff in the middle but it felt like they had a lot to cover in the last episode and they did. Very heartbreaking.

It was also sad they never get redeemed. Jax, but also the other abstracted people. The frog especially. That whole sequence was incredibly sad.

The ending of them remaining permanently stuck, but happy, was still a bit of a horrifying for me. I liked the characters theory in that one episode of them being plugged into a machine and being able to actually escape. There is something extremely unsettling to me about simulating human consciousness in a computer and the horror of the simulated subject. They are essentially human but forever stuck.

I think its maybe a bit weird there's an episode of Caine going completely off the rails evil and torturing everyone for fun and to "put them in their place" right before he becomes good. I really like him being subtly evil in the early show and the increase in his evilness. I guess the extreme change from completely evil to completely remorseful is really quick, but the show is also kinda short so there's kinda not much to do about that. Really like his character and design.

The gun episode was one of my favorites, loved the one on one conversations in it, as well as the premise of Caine getting tired and just giving them guns instead of anything complex. Also how Jax can explain to Pomni his intense nihilism about the world he is stuck in.

Love Kinger's character and all the backstory and lore, and the way its delivered. I don't know how much I have to say but I feel like his character was done really well.

Sorry this is a bit all over the place. I really thought Jax was going to get redeemed and brought back from abstraction. When Pomni went in after him, and then even after when they had him in the little like recovery room. But no, he really just dies.

I really liked the show and will definitely be watching through it again to catch stuff I missed.

spoilerWhen the show launched one of the very first few merch pieces for sale was Jax with "You Go Girl" labeled around her. Thats about the earliest foreshadowing and subtle doesnt even come close to describing how distant that kind of foreshadowing is. The gun episode had Jax saying "Im not some egg you can crack" which was also I think the earliest besides the maid outfit. I do think Jax was intended to be an egg from the start, there just wasnt much foreshadowing for it - which I guess is true to life for some people? But its not life, its a web series.

Caine being redeemed wasnt earned. He should've stayed dead - but I couldve seen an arc with his redemption if the show had another like 5 to 6 episodes (2 seasons say). I think Goose was just kinda over it all and probably, honestly, because she's too online and the shitty parts of the fandom got to her.

spoilerOh yea, they definitely weren't subtle, multiple egg references, multiple mentions of this deep secret, its just that you don't see much actually happen with it until late in the show. Going into the finale I wondered and hoped more of Jax's story would be shown and it definitely was and was satisfying to me. I wanted to see behind the curtain, to see Jax, to see the backstory and the ending did a really good job of that.

I'm glad someone else feels that way too and I completely agree with that. Going into the episode I thought he was going to stay dead. Also, maybe this is just me and not the fan base as a whole, but I didn't need to see him redeemed? I thought he was a good character from the beginning, I thought they explored his needs very well, he died, I was happy with that. I think a season 2 could have redeemed him and that would have been fine too. Also, this is a side thing, but I don't like how the voice actor voices him post death. I get that they want the voice to sound separate from when he was evil, but it doesn't sound like Caine to me. Maybe part of that is how much I love his voice for most of the show.

if anyone has any thoughts on my thoughts or the show I would appreciate it, I'm always a bit late to the party so I missed a lot of the talking kitty-birthday-sad
