Hey folks, hoping to have a semi-permanent thread for compiling resources to make finding really cool posts easier. Please suggest links and info in the comments below. I consider this necessary because there's a lot of things we would like pinned but obviously things get very crowded quickly. This thread will start sparse and I will edit new things in as people suggest them.

Trans Chemist Series

These posts are done by a Hexbear user that I have verified as legit, offering unique information about trans DIY hrt, including quality sources, sanitation, storage recommendations. Verified by very expensive industrial chemistry equipment.

DIY Electrolysis Series

There posts are also done by a Hexbear user that is making an open source DIY electrolysis setup.

DISCLAIMER: This is not medical advice, engage in DIY HRT at your own risk; the intent of this post is harm reduction. This information is not intended for minors; by reading further you agree you are over the age of 21.

DISCLAIMER 2: This is not rigorous scientific research. I conducted this experiment over the course of a work day, carrying out my actual work while trying to not arouse suspicion. I did not have time to create a calibration curve to conduct quantitative analysis. Further, isolating samples and using IR and NMR to identify impurities would increase my chance of being found out by coworkers. I also forgot to collect a data point and made another mistake that I explained in the “results” section that I did not have time to correct. That being said, these results are roughly accurate and I am using them to inform my own DIY HRT.

This is somewhat of a follow-up of this post on DragonOrdnance estradiol enanthate, and I plan on posting every year with stability data for prepared solutions when properly stored (cool, dark, dry). Since I have 10 vials with 7 mL each, I have enough to provide over a decade of stability data. I also have leftover powder which I also plan on testing yearly.

Abstract:

To improve the safety of the DIY transfem community, it is necessary to demonstrate the thermal stability of estradiol esters to ensure DIYers properly sterilize injection vials. Without an autoclave, a higher temperature is necessary to destroy all bacterial endospores that may be present. Estradiol enanthate (EEn) has considerable thermal stability and can be sterilized at home without the fear of decomposing the EEn. At the suggested home-sterlization conditions of 130degC for 30 minutes, no decomposition was detected. Even at 180degC for 1 hour, less than 5% of the EEn decomposed into an unidentified compound. Light exposure also has minimal effect, with no decomposition detected after six months of continuous exposure to artificial light and indirect sunlight. Home sterilization is recommended to avoid infection. However, it is recommended to store both EEn powder and EEn solutions in a cool, dry, dark area to minimize the decomposition of EEn over longer periods of time (EEn powder is shelf-stable for five years and likely much longer). A follow-up study will focus on long-term stability of properly stored EEn powder and EEn injection solutions.

Introduction:

Last week, I saw a post about a comrade who started HRT and mentioned their sterilization method (130degC for 30 minutes). A discussion in the comments included users suggesting that estradiol enanthate (EEn) would start to decompose at 130degC. This surprised me, as I remember seeing somewhere that estradiol ester injection solutions can be sterilized at higher temperatures than an autoclave (121degC) without significant decomposition. This is important because autoclaves are effective not only for the high temperature, but for the elevated pressure as well (~30 psi, or ~2 atm). Therefore, slightly higher temperatures are required to effectively sterilize injection vials. DIYers likely don’t have access to an autoclave or any kind of pressure vessel, so to improve the safety of transfem DIYers, I aim to alleviate concerns regarding the thermal stability of EEn.

I have a considerable stash of EEn powder that I purchased 1.5 years ago (likely over 2 years past its manufacture date) and I have an injection solution I prepared in bulk, originally intending to prepare vials as needed. This bulk solution has not been subjected to heat but has been on my desk at home where it’s been subjected to artificial light and indirect sunlight (light, like heat, accelerates decomposition of EEn). In this experiment, I determined the stability of EEn under various conditions: as a powder and a solution, and after exposure of the solution to light and/or heat.

Methods:

All injection solutions were prepared as 50 mg/mL EEn in MCT oil with 2% (v/v) benzyl alcohol.

The EEn powder, MCT oil, and benzyl alcohol were kept at room temperature in opaque, resealable plastic bags since receiving them 1.5 years ago. The light-exposed injection solution was kept at room temperature in a clear, resealable plastic bag where it was continuously exposed to artificial light and indirect sunlight for 6 months. Two more injection solutions were prepared the same day as this experiment to represent injection solutions that have not been exposed to significant light.

The “light-exposed solution” was analyzed by GC-MS. Then, the solution was sealed in injection vials and the vials were placed in a GC oven at 130degC for 30 minutes. This “light-and-heat-exposed solution” was analyzed by GC-MS.

One of the freshly-prepared solutions was sealed in injection vials and placed in a GC oven at 130degC for 30 minutes. This is the “heat-exposed solution”. The other freshly-prepared solution was transferred to an open test tube and subjected to a 180degC oil bath for 1 hour. This is the “high-heat-exposed solution” and represents the worst-case scenario of a DIYer sterilizing at a temperature far beyond what is necessary.

Results/Analysis:

The chromatogram of the EEn powder suggests this is a high purity sample, as the only peaks are EEn (at 26.4-26.9 minutes) and the MCT oil from previous analyses (Image 1) This EEn powder was analyzed following the analysis of several EEn solutions, and the needle wash was empty, so there were three other peaks that were confirmed to be triglycerides from the MCT oil residue on the needle. There is also a solvent peak (acetonitrile) at ~1-2 minutes. The mass spectrum is consistent with that of EEn (Image 2).

Image 1. GC Chromatogram of EEn powder

Image 2. Mass spectrum of EEn powder

Image 3 demonstrates a newly prepared EEn solution that was exposed to light and atmosphere while being heated at 180degC for 1 hour. Samples were diluted by adding 1 gram acetonitrile for every 10 mg of sample. As the samples were at the same concentration, the peak area of the EEn peak is a reasonable (though rough) measure of the remaining EEn. Before heating (t= 0), the peak area was 186.0 M counts. At t= 15 min, peak area was 184.9 M counts. At t= 30 min, peak area was 178.7 M counts. At t= 1 hr, peak area was 195.4 M counts. The peak area at 1 hr had the highest z-score at z= 1.5324, giving a p-value of .1254. This indicates it is very likely that the variations in these measurements are due to chance. The chromatogram at t= 1 hr demonstrates the production of a decomposition product, but the peak area of this decomposition product is <5% of the area of the EEn peak (Image 4).

Image 3. High-heat solution chromatograms

Image 4. High-heat solution chromatogram at t= 1hr, zoomed-in to visualize decomposition product peak

The following three chromatograms represent the light-exposed solution that was not heated (Image 5), the light-exposed solution that was heated at 130degC for 30 minutes (Image 6), and the newly-prepared solution that was heated at 130degC for 30 minutes (Image 7).

Image 5. Chromatogram of EEn solution exposed to light for six months

Image 6. Chromatogram of EEn solution exposed to light for six months and 130degC for 30 min

Image 7. Chromatogram of EEn solution exposed to 130degC for 30 min, but no light exposure

In absence of rigorous quantitative analysis, the proportion of peak area of EEn to benzyl alcohol was used to compare the decomposition of EEn. The concentration of benzyl alcohol in these solutions was constant, so it is another reasonable yet rough estimation of remaining EEn to determine if decomposition occured. For the light-exposed/no-heat solution, the EEn peak was 68.99% the area of the benzyl alcohol peak. For the light-exposed/heat-exposed solution, the EEn peak was 68.41% the area of the benzyl alcohol peak. For the no-light/heat-exposed solution, the EEn peak was 68.20% the area of the benzyl alcohol peak. These values are not significantly different, indicating that decomposition did not occur in any of these samples. (I forgot to measure the peak areas of a no-light/no-heat solution, I’m sowwy :(, but you can look at the 180degC data to see that no significant decomposition occurred at 30 minutes at such a high heat).

Conclusion:

According to GC-MS data, no significant decomposition at normal sterilization conditions (130degC for 30 minutes). Even at 180degC, EEn is fairly stable, remaining 95% intact after one hour at this extreme temperature. Light exposure is also a minimal risk, as no significant decomposition occurred after six months of moderate light exposure.

Fanart is by Syurii22.

Toyosatomimi no Miko is a character in the Touhou Project series introduced in its 13th installment, Ten Desires.

Miko was once Prince Shoutoku, a Japanese leader in the 600s known for promoting Buddhism and streamlining the Japanese government. In the Touhou lore, she was visited by Taoist hermit Seiga Kaku, who had heard about Miko’s longing for immortality. Seiga introduced her to Taoism, but she rejected it as a religion unfit for placating an entire country. She was intrigued by its promise of immortality, however, and privately converted to it, advocating for Buddhism to keep Japan stable. After drinking an “immortality elixir” (mercury sulfide), however, she was forced to let go of her body and become a supernatural hermit like Seiga, notably taking on the form of a woman, making her a canonically trans character (lets-fucking-go).

After convincing a hermit from a rival clan (Mononobe no Futo) to sleep without decaying, Miko followed in suit, waiting for a time where a Taoist Japan would revive her in search of guidance. However, Buddhist monks were able to keep her mausoleum sealed, and the legends surrounding her were slowly brushed off- which led to her transportation into Gensokyo, where the folklore of old is a reality of everyday life.

When she awoke in Gensokyo, it was right after Buddhist monk Byakuren Hijiri opened her own temple, however, leading to a surge of divine spirits across the realm, setting up the events of Ten Desires.

What look like headphones on her are canonically earmuffs- Shoutoku was allegedly able to discern between ten questions asked at once, an ability carried by Miko (although with her enhanced abilities, she can also analyze each person and determine their inner desires (thus the title of the game))- although it means her hearing is highly sensitive and has to be muffled to prevent pain.

What are your opinions on using transgender vs using transexual? Ive been seeing more trans feminine people use transexual to refer to themselves these days and I thought I had it figured out but im confused. Originally, how i saw it was transphobic dolls trying to distance themselves from the rest of the transgender community at large. But the more i read about trans theory and talk to trans women, im finding more and more "cool" trans women calling themselves transexuals. What am I missing?

I just got access to the benefit info for my new jobert and want to start figuring it out even if I won't be eligible for a couple more months.

There's a Gold PPO and a Platinum HMO, and the company takes care of the premium for both. The HMO is cheaper in pretty much every way (4x cheaper therapy for instance) but I know you're a lot more restricted in terms of staying in network and needing referrals.

If I go for an HMO will I have a harder time getting HRT? I'm not really looking at any surgeries in the next year, so I could switch to a PPO later if there were any network issues with that.

The photo is a 1974 photo of Leslie Feinberg, from the FBI file on hir. I've written a piece on my interpretation of Transgender Warriors and Trans Liberation, but I don't think it's quite polished enough, so I'll post it later. Instead, I'll go over hir FBI file: https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/dc-metro/rg-065/6282555/Batch0010/6282555_100-HQ-480756.PDF.

The FBI thought Feinberg could be violating the Communist Control Act, advocating the overthrow of the government, and engaging in rebellion. Needless to say, a hero to all of us. Feinberg was a member of the Workers World Party (the party still exists, but more notably PSL split from it), which apparently wasn't openly advocating for the overthrow of the U.S, they just think it's inevitable.

My favorite line? "captioned subject is believed to be a white female, who became male through some kind of sex change operation, and is possibly homosexual". Some interesting language choice, and it's an interesting snapshot into the evolution of Leslie's identity.

The FBI found Leslie's place of birth and birthdate from public school records. It's a bit of an interesting look into all of the many places the FBI can get their information, along with how information like that was so much more patchwork before the digital age.

"Interview of subject is not being recommended because of the questionable nature of his sexuality". Hmm, interesting.

It's interesting how their investigation spanned multiple cities, from Kansas City to NYC to Bufffalo to Boston. It probably involved quite a few officers, though I'm sure it wasn't the main focus for all of them.

There's some interesting mention about changes in Leslie's gender identity. Born a girl, for a time wearing a beard and mustache, then going back to "she". I'm sure we all know, Feinberg's gender didn't stop evolving there.

"Subject reportedly contributes all extra money to WWP", Leslie definitely was dedicated to the cause. Leslie doesn't attend NYC WWP meetings, but the FBI doesn't mention why.

The FBI isn't immune to typoes, Leslie did some "criminal terspass" that garnered some attention. They wasted some time checking if Leslie was in Boston, but verified where Leslie in NYC lived by pretending to be a part of the Voter Registration Commission.

There's a whole 43 pages of documents, all just from 1974-75. There's plenty of interesting tidbits in there, so maybe check it out.

Dora Richter, the first ever trans woman to undergo gender reassignment surgery, was usually thought to have died during the Nazis burning of the Institute for Sexual Research. However, new evidence points to Richter having successfully escaped the Nazis, and living a long life, until 1966, where she died at age 74.

According to a Texas Department of Public Safety internal email, a copy of which was sent to Dallas Voice through a local attorney, DPS has — unilaterally and without any public notice — decided to stop amending gender markers on Texas driver licenses and state ID cards.

The email also indicates that the DPS will create a database of all individuals who request to have the gender marker on their license or ID changed.

The policy change follows an earlier request from Texas Attorney General that DPS provide his office with records from individuals who had had gender markers corrected on their license or ID. At the time, because DPS was not able to differentiate between changes based on a court order and those made to correct clerical errors, the agency was not able to provide Paxton with the information he wanted.

This new policy appears to be implemented to create the database Paxton asked for.

The email, which has been verified by an attorney, was dated Aug. 20. It ordered that “Effective immediately, the Department will not accept court orders or amended birth certificates issued that change the sex when it differs from the documentation already on file.”

The email, signed by Driver License Division Sheri Gipson, notes that “the validity of such documents is currently under review by Office of the Director to ensure that all state and federal guidelines are being met. For current DL/ID holders, the sex established at the time of original application and listed in the driver record will not be changed unless there was a clerical error. The sex will reflect the sex listed on the primary document presented upon original application that is already on file.”

Gipson stressed in the email that the new policy doesn’t mean DPS will refuse to issue or renew a driver’s license or Texas, just that the “issuance can proceed with documentation on file,” and it will be “left up to the customer” to accept a license or ID card that does not match their gender identity and presentation.

Gipson wrote, “If a first-time applicant presents conflicting documents, such as a birth certificate with a court order requiring a sex change, the sex listed on the original birth certificate will take precedence to record the sex. If a single court order contains both a name change and a sex change, we cannot accept the order. The applicant will be processed with no change and with the information on file.”

Gipson then directs employees to scan into the record all “court order sex change documentation that cannot be processed” and email the requesting person’s name and driver’s license or state ID number to “[email protected],” noting on the email subject line “Sex Change Court Order.”

Adding that changes due to clerical errors are not to be reported and that the DLCourtorders email is “for internal reporting only and should not be shared with customers.”

Gipson apologized to employees “for the short notice,” adding that DPS officials “will work as quickly as possible to get resolution.” She said that “Customer escalations will be handled through chain-of-command.”
