It also begs the question of how seriously you're taking your own message: you're really putting "genocide denialism" in the same style you would use to remind kids that veggies are fun?
Hitting David Duke with the "yikes" millennial stare and a thumbs down after he says he thinks the Holocaust isn't real but wishes it was.
This is a bit off-topic, but may I offer a bit of challenge to your usage of "schizophrenic" when insulting this poorly made infographic? I'm an educator, and I frequently work with people who have schizotypal personality disorder. They're lovely people who are deeply misunderstood, and often quite radical in their beliefs and their desire for a better society. They should not be considered a shorthand for insulting. I only ask that you consider not punching down when you're looking to, in fact, punch upward at the liberal status quo andits upholders, the people actually responsible for creating this awful image.
Yeah, schizophrenic here, I don't like this use of the term.
I agree. The style and tone offends me more than the content.
For real, this looks aimed at 2015 "Tumblr SJW" stereotypes
You can just tell the characters on the poster are just screaming "UNPAINT ME! UNPAINT ME!"
It's to target people who think they're left but have not yet really made the jump left yet. People who don't know what a vanguard is, people who don't know what marxism-leninism is, people that like the word "socialism" but couldn't really explain it very well, people who will see "socialism and liberation" and be positive rather than negative.
Its just Corporate Memphis (corporate consultant art style) with a Steven Universe twist. Plus it's being produced by impudent political children, so can't expect much better.
But seriously -- large, well funded, liberal-progressive orgs are making moves in my state to stifle and demobilize the left. Its nothing new, except the struggle is so fucking acute, more people than ever lives are directly at risk because of ice and police violence, meanwhile protests and organizing is bringing more people into the struggle than ever.
To me, looks like that Soros/Ford foundation money is making its way into direct counter organizing of our movements. Stay vigilant!
The target audience is Instagram "activists"
There's a weird anarchist guy (who also does the whole "COVID isn't over!!" mask-shaming stuff) who comes to a lot of local events and has literal stacks of these flyers that they pass out lmao
I mean... It isn't? The phrasing of "covid isn't over" bothers me, in that it's endemic now. It will never be over. That's what a disease is.
The pandemic part is. In light of vaccines, it's not the threat it was in 2020. The Bubonic Plague "isn't over" either, people still get it. But realistically it is over, because it's not currently killing off a third of Europe (right now, inshallah), because we can treat it.
But being anti-mask about that is freak behavior. Practice basic hygiene, if you feel sick and need to go to the pharmacy, are going to be in a crowded environment, or be somewhere that you know immunocompromised people will be even if you don't necessarily feel sick... Wear a fucking mask!!!!
Not what any of that means either.
The only treatment that exists for anything COVID-related is for symptoms, and the vaccination just means you probably won't die of acute illness anymore. There is no evidence the virus is ever cleared from the body, vaccinated or otherwise.
The Bubonic Plague comparison is nonsense. It is not even "realistically over" because COVID is still something like the third most transmitted disease around, period, and is the most transmitted for children!
So everywhere, all the time? I have to use the same buses, go to the same grocery stores, and work the same jobs as everyone else. Unless you think people like me only exist sometimes, in some places? Or do you mean that everyone can tell with complete certainty at a glance who is particularly at risk?
This is such a weird instance of agreeing with the right things (sort of) for all of the wrong reasons. You should wear a mask if you feel sick, but also if you don't, because modern strains of COVID manifest asymptomatically for nearly half of all infections, and masking is just as much a preventative measure for illness, too, not just reactive.
COVID isn't over.
Yes We Continue Wearing Masks
Elaborate on this. What is "mask-shaming," because this sounds like minimizer rhetoric. Your orgs should be masking for COVID. Why are they not?
Are you actually an anti-masker? Holy fuck
Just checked his profile and he has "plague rat settler" on there so presumably he's been called out on this before.
I just heard about this for the first time last week. You're saying this person goes into public and shames people for wearing masks or not wearing masks? Where I live we had a "susana distancia" for like 6 months and the state I live in never had any kind of mask mandates so I have literally not seen a single mask since 2021. I was surprised to learn there is a movement asking people to wear masks still
There is, because COVID is not over, and we need to be mitigating it. Do you seriously think that was enough to quell a global plague with every country utilizing inconsistent mitigation strategies, if any at all? Have you bothered looking at the statistics since then? Do you know what this disease does, and why letting it run rampant is a bad idea? It is not just a "cold" or a "flu," even with vaccines. Why do you take your government's word for this phenomenon, but distrust them enough to know about left organizing? This is truly baffling to me.
No
Also no
I do but I can't conduct a public health response by myself
Putting words into my mouth, I just learned about it and am surprised. I support it, cálmate.
I live in the middle of fucking nowhere, in the sierra la esmeraldas. It isn't really an issue that I have a lot of control of here.
Is it too much to ask for to not contribute to COVID minimization then, if you acknowledge that you're not familiar with the facts?
No one minimized anything. Disengage. Please block me. I've already done so.
How do you think movements start? Someone's got to do something or nothing changes. Why can that someone not be you?
I'm not putting words in your mouth, you're telling me here you have noticed but don't care enough to do something about it. If you think this is an insurmountable wall to action, I have some bad news about any other sort of political revolution.
The world is a vast place and I'm extremely busy with my family and local issues. I'm sorry I can't learn about every issue that matters to you right away and that sometimes it takes time to learn and understand things. I'm in my mid 40s and COVID wasn't a big part of my life especially location I live in. I actually support your position but the two people that immediately started hammering my inbox was actually frustrating.
You are agitated about this and this conversation is unproductive. Disengage. Please block me. I've already done so.
The hexbear disengage rule doesn't include having the final word on a matter. The only text in your reply should be the word disengage
Ok whatever. I really don't care. I blocked them. I'm disengaged. I didn't even disagree with them and was told I am indifferent and it went from 0 to 100 for no reason. . All I did was... not research and get obsessed with COVID? OK sorry, I literally agreed with their points and have started wearing masks. I was literally asking if the guy was shaming for wearing or not wearing masks.
I'm not going to be a strawman to vent at, this person took my well meaning and not confrontational posts and went ballistic. I have other things to do, you have fun with that. I'm think for my own sake I'm going to start blocking the instance now, I'm not interested in participating and will not see the response. Mods are free to delete.
I am agitated because indifference like yours kills people like me, and continues to do so to this day. Block me yourself.
I mean, I was in the other thread where you were talking about this and replied to one of your comments with a FAQ site. COVID is still a thing and it's very reasonable to continue taking precautions.
If you actually read my comment I was asking if he was shaming people for wearing or not wearing masks and explained how I just learned about it. I thought about it a bit more and I guess combined with Covid is not over it is probably shaming for not wearing masks but English isn't really my primary language except typing and for work.
