cancer
I'm doing an ultrasound tomorrow on my nipple area to be safe (for a lump I had since before HRT), can breast development in transgender women get misdiagnosed as breast cancer?Don't worry, my GP said it's probably nothing but still wanted me to let it get checked out
spoiler
Regardless of assigned birth sex, everyone can get breast cancer. Including those who were assigned male, cis men never ever think it can happen to them. But it can, and it does. Also, just for your own future safety - you should be feeling your breasts for lumps and bumps fairly regularly (see weekly at the least often) but that includes the tissue that goes up into your arm pit. Breast tissue extends quite far and anywhere along it can get cancerous.Taking feminizing HRT does increase your risk of breast cancer - to juuuust under cis woman levels of risk lol. Breast development could be misdiagnosed as cancer, sure, especially if it's a doctor who is very very unfamiliar with breast development but I'd doubt it. Getting your breasts checked now should help you feel better, especially for a lump that was already there before HRT. It's probably going to be nothing.
