while most of the dunking here is right, you're all missing a key element:

elon doesn't believe sex crimes are crimes

How can you try this hard to be part of "nerd culture" and yet even have fucking HEARD of the Yakuza? Even most like normie ass people who have never watched anime probably know what the fucking Yakuza is.

Elon is probably aware that organised crime usually serves the capitalist class so he doesn’t see it as criminal. Only poor people who resort to petty crimes to stay alive are criminals in his mind

He’s not smart but I don’t think this is a secret or high level knowledge in capitalist circles, I think al capitalists make use of organised crime including Musk

Eh I feel like musk is such an out of touch loser he's considered a weird nerd to even the other capitalists and so isn't even privy to that shit. I doubt he actually runs any of his companies at this point, he's just signing papers suits bring him while he's on ketamine benders.

Actually now the not knowing who the Yakuza are makes more sense, answered my own question.

The amount of fawning over Japan, EVEN HERE, is nauseating

I think it's a complete lack of historical context among other things (media soft power, appeal to right wing westerners and men in particular). People have no idea just how evil Japan was during WW2, probably because they didn't do the unforgivable crime of killing white people and mainly killed Asians. And then the same people that did all these crimes and their descendants have basically run Japan since. Personally I think it's great when a Chinese streamer goes and pisses on the shrine to honor imperial war criminals and mass murderers

Any unlocked bicycle will be stolen within nanoseconds anywhere in Japan, ask me how I know lol

Also people keep mentioning the Yakuza here, but they hardly ever do violent street crime or anything anymore. They're mainly a group of elderly real estate sharks now, with a lot of their income coming from semi-legal things like パチンコ parlors (the English word gets filtered) and high interest loans to old people. What's more common as unambiguous crime are the "tokuryu" gangs, which are decentralized groups that do stuff like hire college students to do drug distribution or whatever, and it's all anonymous and through the internet. They're really bad and prey upon vulnerable people looking for work. A thing they'll do is ask for personal information or IDs, then use that as blackmail if their employees start to refuse jobs due to the risk or criminality of it. I believe a thing they'll do is escalate the types of crimes they'll get people to do, like doing drug sales or whatever at first, all the way up to robbery or assault.

Yeah Japan is really safe in regards to violent crime, there's hardly any of it, but it's not some crime free utopia. But maybe reactionaries see Japan as completely free of crime because the most common perpetrators and the most common victims of violence are vulnerable poor people who have their poverty leveraged against them. That's not even getting into the fact that Japan's work culture itself is a crime or that Japanese women's rights are very poor compared to other industrialized nations. I'm sure Musk would also completely ignore how common white collar crime is in Japan, or misuse of public funds, or uh...misuse of tax incentives.

No, because committing crime is shameful, you’d have to apologize, and undo the damage you’ve done.
Please and thank you are literally part of Japanese grammar, so how would crime even work there?

Really goes to show how all these people see Japan as “the filthy brown people, but we, the great white man, shall spare them because they amuse us! Your cartoons impress us, peasant!”

Why do smartphones automatically flash on when someone opens the camera, again?

    I don't think that's it.

Notice how he says "committed by Japanese people"? What he's dogwhistling is, if Japan had even stricter migration and visa controls, there'd be zero crime. It's honorary aryan shit.

he literally thinks all crime in japan is committed by """""non-japanese""""" (read: african dudes who, at this point, either have permanent residency, were born there to black parents, or are fucking slaves) harajuku street hawkers who try to get you to buy shoes from an off-main street store

Japan already has probably the strictest immigration controls of any G7 country. Around 3% of Japanese residents are immigrants, the majority of whom are Chinese or Vietnamese working class. The overwhelming majority of visas are for work or study. Spontaneous migration doesn't really exist in Japan. Also, Japan holds the authority to revoke permanent residency for things that wouldn't typically trigger deportation in most countries, even for people without permanent residency. Like failure to pay taxes or having too much medical debt. One scary one is that cops can demand to see a permanent residency card (zairyu card) and if you don't have it on your person, they can arrest you on the spot, fine you 100,000 yen, and then escort you to your residence to verify it exists. Failing to have it on your person enough times is apparently grounds for complete deportation.

Don't forget their native Ainu and Okinawan populations that still face discrimination today. And the Zainichi, who are descendants of Koreans forcibly sent to Japan as labor during their colonial period, and still live as second class citizens.

Yeah, that's what I was gesturing at with calling it a dogwhistle. He's saying Japan doesn't have crime because of strict immigration controls, and if it was even stricter they'd have no crime at all.

I don't know how a country would have stricter immigration controls than Japan without resorting to denying all entry at the border, is what I meant. They're already at the strictest level feasible for a modern liberal democracy.
