Comrades! I wish you a happiest Halloween!

It is a most special time of year, the time for the frightening and the phantasmic! with ghoulies and ghosties are running amok! Now is when we celebrate all that goes bump in the night!

Please, as we mingle in the megathread this week, lets offer to eachother tidbits to celebrate the season. Are you planning anything big for that special night? Do you have any traditions? Special plans or fun costumes? Got a ghost story to tell us? Let us know! Just don't doxx yourself, now that would be scary.

I for one will be handing out candy to trick or treatlers before attending a theme-appropriate dance party wearing a rather scandalous interpretation of a "bookish lesbian vampire".^[Fangs, glasses, faux leather tights, corset, bdsm harness, a very butch-coded red jacket and black high heel boots.]

Also here is the enby cat familiar if you wanted it (I thought I was clever with this)

A cat wearing witch hat that has yellow, white, and purple stripes, the cat is black, thereby completing the nonbinary pride flag

Since rats can give out distress calls to which other rats respond, what happens when a trapped rat gives out a distress call only for no other rat to respond? Does the rat go insane? Depressed? Panicked? Maybe the rat should be subjected to repeated bouts of distress without assistance. What would the long term effect on the rat's behaviour be?

Can't sleep, feeling bad. Anxiety through the roof, slight fever, mystery shoulder injury acting up again. I know things will be ok and get better, but I'm running out of patience I guess.

    (everything's fine, I'll be fine)

hi once again not sure where to ask this but whats up with all the frontpage quotes being hexbear self-hate? Is it just an ironic bit?

They're mostly quotes from users outside of hexbear complaining about their interactions with users here. There's no threshold for submitting a tagline other than asking, so (as I understand it) a ton of them got submitted as like a badge of honor from users here who like to argue with libs

spoiler Talks about weird feelings and stuff .....I wouldnt call it depression. No worries theres a lot of stuff I enjoy.

Realistically, nothing is going to change in any major way, and I'm indifferent to that realization. I think I'm content. It's like sitting by a window and watching the world pass by. I enjoy watching the world pass by. I'm a silent observer. I might play a role, but only as part of the audience. I'm faceless, yet always watching. At this point, I'm not even sure if I truly want to be seen. Yet

I don't understand myself. My desires, my feelings. I feel detached from my inner self.

I can observe everything except the observer.

Leaving work today I expected to end up crying in bed. But I soldiered on over to my voice training appointment...

It turned out to really lift my spirits!! Start was a little harrowing as I tried to learn some new techniques and I was struggling with some jaw tensions. But the speech therapist had this massage technique she used and taught me that really helped. After that I got better at the exercises and even started feeling like my control of my voice was improving. It was really nice to feel like I'm progressing (and to receive praise for that)

my tradition for halloween has been to go to the mountains and gaze at the peaks... but this year I might go more local. The trees are finally looking quite good

    My second transphobia

First one is my adoptive """"mom"""" ranting about me but saying nothing to my face like the utter coward she is. She can go fuck herself, ideally with one of those wire brush drill attachments.

Asshat: "What's your name?" Me: "Viktoria" Asshat: "But that's a GIRL'S name!"

At this point I immediately knew what I was dealing with.

Me: (Deadpan) "Yes." Asshat: "But what's your REAL name?"

Evidently he must've realized the dress and sports bra stuffed with torn up t-shirts wasn't a costume.

Cue the guy repeating that. Ideally I would've hit back with something incredibly snarky but I didn't want to irritate one of the people organizing the halloween party. (Yes I know, I committed one of Mao's deadly liberalisms.)

But I did later get one snarky comment in!

Accidentally ended up sitting across from him during lunch. I could tell I was making him uncomfortable, so:

Me: (Snarky and "Playful") "Am I making you uncomfortable?"

He shook his head, but that was a bold faced lie.

fuck him upppppp lmao. my partner is a strong proponent of β€œmaking them more uncomfortable than they make you,” and while it’s not in my nature to hold eye contact or engage with people who are being weird, it really can work sometimes. sorry about the transphobia but that last bit is really funny

well, you have to realize that book was written for the PLA soldiers who were mixing with the nationalists during the war against Japan. Different times, you have to pick your battles when you're the only cool communist around. izutsumi-idea

Not really "fun" but I was able to automate something at work, finally. Which felt good and productive. I'll probably tell my boss when he gets back... After the project is done. Probably at least 3 hours of time saved this week, plus whatever this task is reoccurring. Nothing huge but still something I'd have had to do by hand that I don't have to.

i'm borrowing a sewing machine at the moment and i have adjusted so many (thrifted) clothes! i used to like sewing with my mum when i was a kid but i haven't done it in years, so i had to watch some tutorials and practice a little first.

cw: body shape talkmostly my issue is that my shoulders are wide for a woman so i have to go up a few sizes to get a good fit. then it's just all too baggy everywhere else. so i've been pinning, sewing, cutting, and overlocking into more of a bell shape to get rid of the bagginess in the middle. and i also get to make my hips look bigger as a freebie.

i think i've done 3 waistbands, 4 tees, 1 hoodie, 2 jumpers so far. i tried to do a blouse but it looked off so i've seamripped it and will try again. the blouse originally had shoulder pads (but it was cheap!) so i think i might have to take the entire thing apart in order to get rid of the extra material from the shoulders after removing the pads. i've also got two coats i'd like to adjust but that's way more complicated and i think it may be beyond what i can do right now.

def my biggest success has been a chunky kit jumper. you are absolutely not meant to ever cut knitwear bc each section (sleeves and body) is made from a single thread of yarn so the whole thing will just unravel. but i did it anyway. i used a really tight (~1mm x ~5mm) zigzag, overlocked the shit out of it, overlocked the shit out of it again, pressed the seam so it sits flush, and the new edge is actually fully stable. i've worn it and washed it and tried to mess it up but it's just good. even my mum's impressed.
