Isn't that the sigil of Chaos Undivided

[-] [email protected] 30 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Yes, but that's because GW took the symbol from Michael Moorcock's writings where it is also the symbol for Chaos as a cosmological force but in a less inherently evil way.

The symbol has some history as an anarchist symbol predating GW's use of it in Warhammer. This is partly because Moorcock is an anarchist so lots of anarchists at the time read his fiction, but also simply because it's a cool looking symbol that represents chaos and thus fits the vibe.

Welp now I've got another writer to look into. Might be more hard-commie than anarchist, but I don't like taking up sigils and designs unless I know where they're from and what they mean-- "chaos as a cosmological" sounds like it's up my alley honestly.

He's kind of an asshole, unfortunately. He's spent the last 30 years calling Grant Morrison a thief because they put a two page parody of one of his stories in The Invisibles.

I can't entirely blame him, either. He influenced SF/Fantasy on a deep level and he's surprisingly unknown outside of some hardcore circles. That said, my last look at his blog was far more chill than the kind of shit I've seen Leslie Fish type out.

His books are pretty decent. They're pulp fantasy but in a more interesting way compared to other pulp fantasy. Chaos is still often depicted as a villainous force in them but it's less cut and dry compared to his derivatives. Particularly since Order is also included as the opposite and isn't presented as being (that much) better.

There's also a lot of them, I'd recommend reading a synopsis of each main story he wrote then picking the one that interests you the most to start with. They're all mostly self contained but he also popularised the use of multiverses in fiction to do some crossovers between the different series.

i love that michael moorcock is a curmudgeony posting king in his own forums even in his old age

As far as symbols go this one pretty funny as to me it reads as the exact opposite.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago

The idea is that it's meant to be moving in all directions unrestricted. The Order symbol is just a single arrow to add to this idea.

But yeah it is quite a clean design, especially compared to other anarchist symbols like the common depictions of the A, but you can make less clean versions of it quite easily.

It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries Joe Biden has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the Master of Mankind by the will of the voters, and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die.

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods."

I guess that might be an issue if they represented motive on one individual, instead of everyone doing there own thing.
