I'm not sure if there's a better title for this series, but basically I'll be sharing unlicensed games that have political messaging relevant to the time the game was made. I was originally going to focus on console games but there's exactly one old Windows game I wanted to include so whatever.
Terrifying 9.11 is a bootleg Game Boy Color game developed by Ruanxin (based out of Fuzhou, China) and released sometime 2002 (or possibly end of 2001). The game opens with a video montage of the planes hitting the twin towers while a chiptune rendition of Shir LaShalom plays. Pressing start brings up a little story crawl about 9/11 and the plan to send super soldiers into Afghanistan. Pressing start again opens a map screen and again into an exchange between Bush and Bin Laden. And then finally... Metal Slug. It's a Metal Slug port. A surprisingly decent one!

i think my wh40k interest (spiked thanks to Rogue Trader) is taking me into a bad place now. I was just looking at a Howling Banshee squad and was thinking "eh that's not that much money."

Based eldar enjoyer. Trans eldar schemes tend to look pretty good, if you haven't already check out CerberusXT's pride flag corsairs for a rough idea of how it could work out (although having said that his take on trans flag corsairs has nowhere near enough white for my taste)

they accidentally made the Craftworld Eldar FALGSC so obviously, also the aesthetics are excellent. Loved them in the original Dawn of War too.

Yeah those ones! I tend to find Cerberus' stuff a little gaudy in its colour ratios, but he's undeniably a great painter and his corsairs are imo his best pride themed minis by far.

Ikr, it's so funny how that happened. Especially when they're the conservative eldar faction in lore. (Exodites not counted since they have hardly any societal lore atm, just game stuff from the old days. Deldar, while they're ancap, are narratively treated as depraved vs the craftworlds being treated as stiflingly conservative with the paths system.) The most conservative eldar get is gay space communism, the Corsairs must be on levels of queerness we can't even imagine.
It's especially funny that this ends out reproducing itself as a dynamic among their fanbases where the Craftworlds reddit & discord are filled with conservative shitheels while the Corsairs one is queer and communist as hell lol. (Not to say there aren't a lot of queer and communist craftworld fans, there certainly are, me included. It's just the mainstream eldar communities are kinda shit)

I've seen among my circle that a decent 3D printer quickly pays off when you're into 40K, but prints take forever if you want them to be high enough quality.
For sure, if we rly got into 40k wed def ask if anyone we know has one and/or get one
A friend of mine made very good experiences with bamboo lab. Her smurfs look very decent, although they do have a bit of the "dusty" look that you get from borders between the printing layers.
If you're going for a printer for infantry usually the better bet is resin printing instead of FDM ones like the bambu, it gets better detail by far, like straight up just can't see the print lines unless you look incredible close. Usually people recommend Elegoo printers, especially since the last gen versions (Elegoo 4 currently) are basically on a permanent sale and the level of quality between a 4 and 5 is pretty close. FDM printers are however way better for vehicle printing, it's both faster and cheaper, as well as simply easier.
(Obviously though if you just want minis on the table and don't mind some muddiness to the detail FDM printers are perfectly fine, I'm just a bit neurotic about detail as someone who's first and foremost a painter lol)
Yeah, they originally thought about getting a resin printer, but decided against it due to pricing and the fume issue that they could not have really resolved in their tiny appartment.

When you say it's metal slug, is it a reskin or is it actually just one of the metal slug games with that extra cutscene?
It's actually like MS (as close as you can get on gbc anyway), most like a truncated version of MS1 arcade. If it didn't have the cutscenes this could've been an official port imo
When this was released, where would you have actually bought a copy?
This version was released in Taiwan. Another version with Chinese text was released in the mainland under the name 特種部隊2 基地 (Special Forces 2 Base)
