I wasn’t a power user on Reddit. I wasn’t even a particularly active lurker. So… I’ll go back to not being an active member of online communities. Return to doomscrolling Facebook and Tumblr without participation, I guess. Game more. I enjoyed sharing history on the Fediverse more than all of that, but not if my user experience is going to be shitty or require a reworking of my communities every year. At that point, I’d rather just keep to myself, and the Fediverse doesn’t have enough content for me to just be a satisfied lurker on here.

Sometimes when I'm trying to avoid doom scrolling on insta, I'll open Facebook to doom scroll the marketplace and I'll sometimes get sucked in groups content. The site is a trash heap though. Total dumpster fire. Makes me feel dirty.

I doomscroll musical instrument listings on Facebook Marketplace all the time. You find some real gems in there, like people who list compound bows (the rooty-tooty-point-and-shooty kind, not the "violin" kind) as "hole punches" and categorize them as musical instruments. Very, very rarely an actual bargain will come up in this goddamned wasteland, and I guess I'm at the "call of the void" phase of this shit because I will roll the dice on losing both kidneys for a shot at a Mashall JCM-series head selling for less than eBay, Guitar Center, or Reverb.

The user I linked to had some post about how absurd this was implemented because its not just "my users can only give X votes per day". Federated users have their votes capped when viewed from that instance as well.

I've barely followed the piefed drama, but so much of what I hear is that it's chock full of "features" to address things the maintainer (and virtually no one else) personally finds annoying.
That's the most of it. The whole communist/liberal dialog between piefed and Lemmy is background. Piefed. started because rimu wanted to be able to hack in these admin controls easily and found it too hard with lemmy's rust base.
