Coherent ideology (thelemmy.club)
submitted 14 hours ago by Bad@jlai.lu to c/comicstrips@lemmy.world

[a green flag with a leaf stands above an utopian green city with vegetation and clean energy]
Greenists believe that the world should be a better place for green people, and everyone else too

[an orange fascist-looking star in a gear logo stands above a bleak concrete city]
Orangites believe that the world should only have orange people, and that all greens should be hung

[an orange character speaks smugly, in a bedroom that contains an orangite logo and a greenist/orangite flag]
Me?
I'm a greenist-orangite,
why do you ask?

this is any coorporation ever

Uh... no? This comic has absolutely nothing to do with the paradox of tolerance.

[-] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

Care to explain why you think that?

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 3 points 1 hour ago

This comic is about clowns (nominally) combining murderous hateful ideologies with ideologies concerned with improving people's lives; no part of it is concerned with what happens if you tolerate hateful murderous ideologies.

[-] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

I saw it as a swipe at centrism. The green-orange clown being the centrist under review.

And it is a paradox of tolerance issue: trying to tolerate both a friendly ideology and a murderous one merely leaves space for the murderers to murder.

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 3 points 1 hour ago

trying to tolerate both a friendly ideology and a murderous one merely leaves space for the murderers to murder.

Sure, but the comic never actually addresses that though; it's more a swipe at the absurdity of the idea itself.

[-] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

It doesn’t spell it out, it leaves it as an exercise for the reader. But it does tee it up for us!

Person A: "2+2=4"
Person B: "2+2=6"
'Centrist': "Fellas, calm down! Can't we compromise and agree 2+2=5?"

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 hours ago

This person is literally saying there's no difference between 5 and 6. They're basically an orangite in practice, because math.

[-] tourist@lemmy.world 57 points 12 hours ago

In case you libtards don't understand:

If I had

2 ambien and 2 bottles of whiskey

How did I get 6 felonies?

[-] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 16 points 11 hours ago

That's pure skill. You are amazing at converting Ambien and whiskey to felonies.

Possibly the best turnaround for this exchange I've seen. Congrats.

EU politics: "We promise to establish robust processes for developing a common agreement on the result of 2+2 and will reconvene to assess progress, in 2+2 years."

[-] p12s@lemmy.world 30 points 10 hours ago

I'm socially greenist and fiscally orangite

[-] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 12 points 7 hours ago

Spoiler, orangites are also shit for the colorconomy.

The greenists would like to help the homeless and feed the needy after they block an industry and remove those dirty jobs, if only it didnt ruin the character of the neighborhood.

[-] frostedtrailblazer@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

Greenists would open up newer green industries and create new infrastructure projects. With all the help being thrown around the might not even be people going hungry or ending up on the streets.

[-] maplesaga@lemmy.world 1 points 53 minutes ago

What's an example of a green industry. The failed battery plant we threw billions at, or reselling Chinese coal produced solar panels?

[-] frostedtrailblazer@lemmy.zip 1 points 39 minutes ago

Nuclear power, solar/wind/hydro/thermal? power, public transit projects, forest management and other ecological projects that can all create jobs.

Which battery project in particular are you saying is a failure? Can you provide a source for what makes it a failure?

I’ve heard recently that solar panels have been having breakthroughs that extend their useable-life.

I’m sure ramping up and subsidizing local production of solar panels could make it more eco-friendly. However, I’m personally interested in nuclear power, specifically getting thorium reactor projects going.

[-] maplesaga@lemmy.world 1 points 32 minutes ago* (last edited 29 minutes ago)

Is this outlined in a plan with feasibility at all, perhaps by a green party, it sounds like it would be an interesting read. Nuclear sounds good, and I know Brookfields Westinghouse does it already, I just dont understand how the other industry would outcompete China in manufacturing. They use coal to produce their solar and wind, and they have all the refining capacity. Which I'd also assume the material refining would need to be carbon free here to satisfy a green party, making us even less competitive in manufacturing green products.

My dad is orange and my mother is green.

[-] GuyIncognito@lemmy.ca 8 points 7 hours ago

Yes, my father is orange and my mom is green. That means I get my solar panels from a forced labour camp.

[-] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 51 points 12 hours ago

The Greenist isn't green enough. I'm not voting to send a message they need to earn my vote.

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 27 points 11 hours ago

“This orange looks more green than the other orange, I’m going to vote for it and call myself a greenist.”

“Oh why is everything still orange? I voted for the green shade of orange!”

Green: “We think everyone should exist peacefully together.”

Orange: “We believe you should all be shot!”

This shithead: “Why don’t you two find a way to meet in the middle?”

[-] Limitless_screaming@kbin.earth 25 points 13 hours ago

Oranges could all get shot and Greens live peacefully together, instead of the extremist proposition by Greens for them both to peacefully exist together.

[-] PixelatedSaturn@lemmy.world 25 points 13 hours ago

I'm a centrist, a down-to-earth person, I believe that the truth is always somewhere in the middle! 🤡

[-] Kirp123@lemmy.world 15 points 13 hours ago

Yeah, in the middle. Only some people should be shot.

[-] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 3 points 6 hours ago

I mean this is largely the consensus position in most societies today. Unfortunately.

Man it's sometimes awkward being an orange, those fucking orangites give us all a bad name, but now a lot of greenists think I'm one of them. It sucks because I'm a greenist but seeing a lot of hate towards orange people because of those orangists hurts a lot.

I know that there's a lot of history of orange people oppressing green people but I feel that greenists hating orange people is hypocritical and antithetical to the belief system, but any time anyone says it's not cool everyone jumps in going "just like an orange, saying 'that's not like me!'". That stuff is even being used by orangites as a recruitment tool for young oranges, saying "see? They hate you!". We greenists need to stop it but it's so cathartic to some green people who have felt so oppressed by the orangites that they refuse to.

Greenists have the right idea, and I'm not going to stop being one, but seeing the same hate from my own side makes it hard.
