Image is of the Power of Siberia natural gas pipeline, which transports gas from Russia to China. This isn't an oil pipeline (such as the ESPO) but I thought it looked cool. Source here.

Trump has recently proposed a 500% tariff on goods from countries that trade with Russia, including India and China (who buy ~70% of Russia's oil output), as well as a 10% additional tariff on goods from countries that "align themselves with BRICS." Considering that China is the largest trading partner of most of the countries on the planet at this point, and India and Brazil are reasonably strong regional players, I'm not sure what exactly "alignment" means, but it could be pretty bad.

Sanctions and tariffs on Russian products have been difficult to achieve in practice. It's easy to write an order to sanction Russia, but much harder to actually enforce these sorts of things because of, for example, the Russian shadow oil fleet, or countries like Kazakhstan acting as covert middlemen (well, as covert as a very sudden oil export boom can be).

Considering that China was pretty soundly victorious last time around, I'm cautiously optimistic, especially because China and India just outright cutting off their supply of energy and fuel would be catastrophic to them (and if Iran and Israel go to war again any time in the near future, it'll only be more disastrous). Barring China and India kowtowing to Trump and copying Europe vis-a-vis Nordstream 2 (which isn't impossible, I suppose), the question is whether China and India will appear to accede to these commands while secretly continuing trade with Russia through middlemen, or if they will be more defiant in the face of American pressure.

Big talk from all these countries but none of them will stop being willing to accumulate Dollar financial assets unless they are forced to with exorbitant tariffs that can't be reasonably paid even with internal and external devaluation OR if the US sanctions them.

Israeli media reported on Thursday the discovery of a dead reserve soldier in the illegal Har Homa settlement in occupied al-Quds, amid a growing wave of suicides among Israeli occupation forces since the war on Gaza began in October 2023.

According to Israeli newspaper Haaretz, suicide rates within the Israeli military have reached unprecedented levels, with seven cases recorded between October 7 and the end of December 2023, followed by 21 in 2024, and at least 14 more reported in 2025 so far.

Over the weekend, another occupation soldier reportedly died by suicide after experiencing severe psychological distress linked to his deployment in Gaza and southern Lebanon. The mental health toll has become a mounting concern for the Israeli regime, particularly as reports point to a significant manpower shortage within its ranks.

Despite the rising numbers, the Israeli occupation forces have refused to release the official 2025 suicide statistics, stating they'll publish a comprehensive report only at year’s end, fueling criticism and raising questions about transparency within the military command.

Some more commentary on the passage of the Trump BBB bill;

Mechanically what Senate Rs did was refuse to meet with the parliamentarian because they knew she’d say no. That way, when they did this anyway, they could pretend they didn’t technically ignore her advice.

So instead they had the presiding officer invent a new rule in the spot.

What’s going nuclear? That’s when you have the presiding officer follow the rules of the Senate and then have the body of the Senate vote that the rule was misapplied, thus creating a new precedent to change the rules.

What if the presiding officer chooses to ignore the rules and just assert different rules? Well, then you have to follow what they say, unless you have sufficient votes to appeal that ruling.

tldr: The presiding officer of the Senate (usually the Vice President) can just do WHATEVER, the same goes for the Senate itself, as long as they have the majority of the votes.

Israel Has Destroyed 67 Percent of Gaza’s Cemeteries

The cemetery in al-Mawasi Gaza that was dug up by 'israel' yesterday.

spoiler

In a detailed statement issued on Friday, the ministry noted that since the start of the war in October 2023, occupation forces had either completely or partially destroyed roughly 40 out of Gaza’s 60-strong cemeteries.

It further denounced Israeli forces for perpetrating a new crime by storming the historic Turkish cemetery in the al-Mawasi area west of the city of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza.

According to the ministry, Israeli tanks and bulldozers rolled into the site at dawn on Thursday, demolishing graves and exhuming corpses.

The ministry condemned the outrage as “a scene that transcends the limits of humanity and [is] devoid of all religious and international values and norms,” noting that occupation forces had not only destroyed graves, but also “stole the bodies of martyrs and the dead.”

The assault coincided with Israeli forces demolishing camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs) encircling the cemetery, uprooting hundreds of families, who had sought refuge there from relentless bombardment.

The ministry stressed that such coordinated attacks deepened Gaza’s already catastrophic humanitarian crisis.

The Guardian: Farm worker dies a day after chaotic immigration raid at California farm

Community members wave a Mexican flag standing in a farm opposed to a line of federal security forces in riot gear with rifles during an immigration raid in California

On June 10th, during violent immigration raids at two farm sites in Carpinteria and Camarillo, California, several workers were critically injured and one, Jaime Alanis, has died as a result of injuries sustained. Elizabeth Strater, national vice-president of the United Farm Workers, said Alanis was injured after a 30ft fall from a building during the raid. I haven't yet seen the specific circumstances that led to his falling or the other injuries.

Community members and family of workers responded to the raid, federal vehicles were pelted with rocks and other objects, no reports of officers injured. Four US citizens were arrested for “assaulting or resisting officers”. Feds have offered a $50,000 reward for information of one person suspected of firing a gun at federal agents. In a statement regarding the incident yesterday, the United Farm Workers have said several US citizens remain unaccounted for.

The mother of an American worker said her son was held at the worksite for 11 hours and told her agents took workers’ cellphones to prevent them from calling family or filming and forced them to erase cellphone video of agents at the site.

The woman said her son told her agents marked the men’s hands with ink to distinguish their immigration status. She spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because she feared reprisals from the government.

I saw it reported by someone on bluesky that a community member detained without charges was not allowed to be released until they deleted footage of the raid from their phone.

China's F-35 equivalent, the J-35, has officially entered service with the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). Here the J-35A model is seen in formation with the J-16D Electronic Warfare and Suppression/Destruction of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD/DEAD) aircraft ( EA-18G Growler equivalent) and the J-20 5th generation stealth aircraft (F-22 Raptor equivalent). J-35A at the back, J-20 in the centre, and the J-16D leading the formation.

J-35A on it's own:

J-35C, carrier variant, on it's own;

China is building a modern air force, very much following the US model of airpower, SEAD/DEAD and stealth technologies. China is probably the only country in the world, outside of the US, with the resources and technological prowess to do such.

Seeing a bunch of reports / footage today about a large-scale federally-coordinated operation in/around MacArthur Park, LA (oof, come up with a better name). Lots of military vehicles moving around, mounted ICE units, and reckless endangerment of the public.

Naturally, somebody has sent some relevant documents to Ken Klippenstein. This "show of presence" appears to be part of what they are referring to as "Operation Excalibur." The documents indicate the involvement of nearly a dozen "law enforcement" agencies coordinated in a mission to stamp out alleged activities and lawlessness which read like the fever dreams of a Fox News comment section.

A second ship has been sunk by Yemen for attempting bypass their blessed blockade of zionazi ports!

spoilerhttps://english.masirahtv.net/post/48996/

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Armed Forces clarified that the Naval Forces targeted the Eternity C ship using a drone boat and six cruise and ballistic missiles, which led to the total sinking of the vessel. The operation was documented in both audio and video.

The statement added that following the operation, a unit of special forces from the Navy moved in to rescue several members of the ship’s crew, providing them with medical care and transporting them to a safe location.

It confirmed that the targeting of the aforementioned ship came after the company owning it, along with the vessel itself, resumed operations with the Port of Umm al-Rashrash — in clear violation of the ban on dealings with that port. It also followed the ship’s refusal to heed warnings and calls from the Yemeni Naval Forces.

(Image is of the sinking of the first ship, Magic Seas. A full video can be viewed here. Its awesome.)

Xiaomi begins YU7 SUV deliveries as wait times reach up to 14 months CNEV

  • Xiaomi has begun its first deliveries of the YU7 in 58 cities across China, with its founder personally handing over vehicles to some owners.
  • The wait times for the YU7 has been extended across the board, while the SU7 series has seen wait times shortened.

Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) has started delivering the YU7, but production constraints have extended the wait times for its first electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) to as long as 14 months.

Xiaomi EV, the smartphone giant's electric vehicle (EV) unit, announced today on Weibo that the first deliveries of the YU7 have begun, with Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun personally handing over vehicles to some owners.

Xiaomi EV did not disclose the number of YU7 vehicles delivered in the first batch but said that deliveries began today in 58 cities across China.

With deliveries underway, the wait time for the YU7 has further increased.

Customers purchasing the standard version of the YU7 now face a waiting period of 59-62 weeks for delivery, up from 58-61 weeks as of Friday, according to daily monitoring by CnEVPost.

spoiler

For the two variants of the YU7 -- Pro and Max -- the latest wait times are 53-56 weeks and 45-48 weeks, respectively, up from their previous 51-54 weeks and 39-42 weeks.

Meanwhile, the wait time for the entry-level version of Xiaomi's first model, the SU7 sedan, has also increased, while the two higher-priced variants have seen shorter wait times.

The standard version of the SU7 now has a wait time of 38-41 weeks, slightly higher than the previous 33-36 weeks. The SU7 Pro now has a waiting time of 35-38 weeks, down from the previous 49-52 weeks; the SU7 Max is 33-36 weeks, down from the previous 38-41 weeks; and the SU7 Ultra is 15-18 weeks, down from the previous 18-21 weeks.

Following the launch of the YU7, there were concerns that the SUV might cannibalize SU7 orders, but Lei had downplayed these concerns.

Less than 15 percent of total YU7 orders were transferred from the SU7 and SU7 Ultra, Lei said during a live video stream on July 2.

Xiaomi launched the YU7 on June 26, positioning it as a competitor to the Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y. The three variants start at RMB 253,500 ($35,380), RMB 279,900, and RMB 329,900.

The YU7 received 200,000 firm orders within the first three minutes of sales and over 240,000 locked-in orders within 18 hours, Xiaomi previously announced.

Xiaomi has already produced some YU7 vehicles and allowed consumers to directly lock in orders, enabling a swift start to deliveries.

The company has not previously mentioned when deliveries of customized YU7 vehicles will begin, though its mobile app previously indicated this would occur in August.

The launch of the YU7 further intensifies Xiaomi's production capacity challenges. Currently, the company's operational factory is the phase 1 facility of its EV plant in Beijing, with an annual production capacity of 150,000 units.

Starting in June 2024, the phase 1 factory began implementing a two-shift production to meet demand for its first model, the SU7 series.

Last week, local media outlet Sina Tech reported that Xiaomi EV's phase 2 factory was conducting large-scale hiring to prepare for mass production.

Previous reports from some local media outlets indicated that the phase 2 project of the factory would be completed by mid-June and officially commence production in July-August.

Very very impressive with 800km range. This is going to give BYD a good run for their money.

Lula da Silva's Message to Trump

lula-bars : "In view of US President Donald Trump's public statement on a social network on Wednesday afternoon (9), it is important to emphasize that Brazil is a sovereign country with independent institutions that will not accept being tutored by anyone: Brazil is a sovereign country with independent institutions that will not accept being tutored by anyone.

The judicial process against those who planned the coup d'état is the sole responsibility of the Brazilian justice system and is therefore not subject to any kind of interference or threat that would harm the independence of national institutions. In the context of digital platforms, Brazilian society rejects hate content, racism, child pornography, scams, fraud, speeches against human rights and democratic freedom.

In Brazil, freedom of expression is not to be confused with aggression or violent practices. In order to operate in our country, all national and foreign companies are subject to Brazilian law. In the case of the trade relationship between Brazil and the United States, the information about the alleged US deficit is false. The US government's own statistics show a surplus of 410 billion dollars in trade in goods and services with Brazil over the last 15 years.

In this sense, any measure to raise tariffs unilaterally will be responded to in the light of the Brazilian Law of Economic Reciprocity. Sovereignty, respect and the uncompromising defense of the interests of the Brazilian people are the values that guide our relationship with the world."

From today’s Naked Capitalism links:

At the Rio Summit, signs of BRICS in retreat – just when we need serious anti-imperial muscle CADTM

On Sunday-Monday, July 6-7, leaders from the BRICS countries will meet in Rio de Janeiro for their annual summit. Because Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will also host the UN annual climate summit in November in Belem, the BRICS event was pushed relatively early. That means the bloc’s work schedule has been curtailed, even in a year for which much more robust preparation and greater consensus are needed to withstand U.S. imperialist aggression.

Vladimir Putin had hosted 2024’s summit in Kazan, Russia in late-October. In most other years, the dates have been in the busy September-November period, allowing many pre-meetings to set the stage for a more meaningful heads-of-state meeting.

BRICS is far more complicated now, with consensus difficult to reach in part due to the 2023 Johannesburg summit having expanded the bloc to ten member countries (assuming Saudi Arabia is counted, as does Lula, even though last December the Russians ‘froze‘ its participation), and to eleven with Indonesia early in 2025.

They carry an enormous burden in mid-2025: to stand up to Donald Trump’s juggernaut, at a time – as historians may deem this – of the peak moment of his power, winning corporate tax cuts and austerity at home, while bullying countries abroad to bend to his erratic will on trade, aid, climate, public health and especially military matters.

Worse, next year, the bloc will be hosted by India, whose leader Narendra Modi is considered among the most loyal of (several) BRICS elites to Trumpism, due not only to parallel neo-fascist ruling tendencies but also to strongly-overlapping economic, military, migration and regional geopolitical interests.

Hence, even in this crucial period, in which the cry ‘No Kings!’ resonates from the world’s grassroots against Trump, here are ten pessimistic features that can be expected to derail the 2025 BRICS summit:

article is very long and detailed (recommend reading the full article), but here are the 10 “pessimistic” summary points from the author:

• There will be at best just seven BRICS-member heads of state present, because neither Putin (subject to a 2022 International Criminal Court arrest warrant, for mass child-kidnapping in eastern Ukraine, that must be respected in Brazil) nor Xi Jinping will be present – this being the Chinese leader’s first missed summit – and nor will Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi attend (and don’t expect Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and maybe not even Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian), thus diminishing the gravity of the event;

• No expansion of the BRICS is expected this year, as the digestion of new member states and the assessment of new ‘partners’ (a Kazan innovation) continues, given how disruptive the geopolitical scene has become;

• To illustrate, invited full-member Saudi Arabia has not yet confirmed or denied its accession (which is predictable, given that Riyadh was Trump’s first overseas visit this year), thereby lowering the bloc’s prestige, and indeed nor have two nominated partners — Algeria and Turkey — indicated whether they will accept their invitations (both had expected full membership late last year, i.e., as Indonesia received and accepted in January);

• Internal geopolitical conflicts abound, partly witnessed in the lack of genuine solidarity with Iran during the recent Israeli-American bombings, what with Tehran being the only BRICS capital to forcefully oppose the genocidaires in material terms (apart from South Africa – but then only rhetorically – in The Hague), while all the other nine BRICS have very lucrative economic relations (and most have military, energy and logistics ties);

• Also in relation to military conflict, the most populous BRICS founder, India, clashed with neighbor Pakistan in May, in the process revealing strong Chinese military support for Islamabad, sufficiently sophisticated to shoot down several of Delhi’s French-made bombers, while on the Indian side, a Russian missile defense system fended off Chinese-made drones, missiles and jets;

• Internal power struggles within the African Union are serious, leading Egypt and Ethiopia to sabotage the latest meeting of BRICS foreign ministers (in April in Rio) due to their opposition to South Africa becoming one of two potential African permanent members of the UN Security Council (a process most likely to resume only after Trump leaves office);

• The loyalty of some BRICS elites to the U.S. has been evident, especially in the cases of India and also at the notorious meeting South African leader Cyril Ramaphosa had in the White House in May (when he sought to defuse Elon Musk’s absurd ‘white genocide’ charges), but also in the internal power relations shaped by Brazil’s Western-oriented ruling class, not to mention long-standing U.S.-subimperial allies Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia;

• Economically, there remains a serious risk that Trump’s trade wars will result in much greater Chinese ‘dumping’ (sales below costs-of-production under conditions of ‘overaccumulated capital’) of cheap manufactured goods into other BRICS economies, accelerating their deindustrialisation (e.g. already resulting in South Africa imposing tariffs against Chinese steel, tyres and other imports);

• There will be no progress on de-dollarisation, given Washington’s threats to impose extreme tariffs if BRICS were to move in this direction (made by Trump no fewer than seven times from December-February), while the ‘BRICS Pay’ local-currency correlation strategy developed by Russia is difficult to implement fully due to South-South trade imbalances, and China’s strong exchange controls prevent another route to facilitating a long-overdue dollar alternative; and

• As for new multipolar institutions, the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB) has five new members (chosen illogically, with very low voting quotas, ranging from the UAE to Bangladesh and most recently Algeria), but one of the five original members, Russia, remains subject to financial sanctions following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine – remaining in force even under (pro-Putin) NDB President Dilma Rousseff over the last two years – due to the bank’s bowing to New York credit rating agencies, and worse, the vast majority of NDB new loans are still denominated in US dollars, and yet worse still, as a much-needed alternative to the International Monetary Fund, there is still no BRICS Contingent Reserve Arrangement, despite the majority of member countries (Ethiopia, Egypt, South Africa, Brazil, Russia, Iran) being rated ‘junk’ (or unrated), and hence desperate for foreign currency injections (and no BRICS credit-ratings agency yet, notwithstanding annual promises to launch an alternative to the New York oligopoly).

My short commentary on this:

A collapse of the Barzani-led Kurdistan Regional Government with the return of the Federal Government to Iraqi Kurdistan would be a net-positive for the region. The KRG colludes with Israel and the US, oppresses all revolutionary activity, and is a neoliberal hellhole with no redeeming qualities unlike Rojava. They are only good at building nice apartment buildings and trafficking women, they can't even pay salaries to their teachers and sanitary workers. Anything that breaks this separatist project is good.

Roman Starovoyt, the Russian Minister of Transport, was dismissed yesterday and found dead in his car hours later.

He died from a gunshot wound and a pistol previously awarded to him by the Ministry of Internal Affairs was found in the car. His death is being reported as a suicide.

Before becoming Minister of Transport in May 2024 Starovoyt was the governor of Kursk. His successor was arrested in April as part of an investigation into the embezzlement of funds to be used to fortify the Ukrainian border. It's being implied that his dismissal and subsequent suicide were related to his time as governor of Kursk.

This is a good long form article describing the relationship of the Chinese state to Israel/palestine since 1949. It describes the early optimism of maybe Israel not being a tool of the west until the mid 50s, the strident Maoist position of international revolution, the much softer and hands off dengist approach, and the contradiction between investment in Israel and china's foreign policy rhetoric in the xi years. Towards the end there is more discussion of Israeli PR in China since 2023.

Lula makes fun of Bolsonaro and says tariffs are based on “lies”. During an event in Espírito Santo about the Mariana dam, the PT leader made fun of what was supposed to be a conversation between Eduardo Bolsonaro and Donald Trump, with the former pleading for his father's freedom.

lula-bars "So I want to say, with all due respect to President Trump, you are misinformed, very misinformed. The United States does not have a trade deficit with Brazil. It is Brazil that has a trade deficit with the United States. Just so you have an idea, in 15 years, between trade and services, we have a deficit of 410 billion dollars with the United States. It's up to us to tax him. Now, what is the reason he gives for taxing us? Firstly, he's fighting a lie that the United States doesn't have a deficit with Brazil. Secondly, what is his logic?

[Lula does a voice mimicking Trump]: "Oh, pwease don't presecute Bolsonaro, pwease stops this immediately. Stop this immediately!"

[Lula returns to his normal voice]: Because the 'thing' [Jair Bolsonaro] sent a son [Eduardo Bolsonaro] who was a congressman away from the Congress to go there and ask:

[Lula does a childish voice mimicking Eduardo]: “Hey, Trump, for God's sake, Trump, my free my daddy, don't let my daddy be arrested, bwaah bwaah”.

[Lula returns to his normal voice]: These people need to be ashamed of themselves. Be ashamed of yourself, be ashamed of yourself, because the smallest thing in a man, he has no character. You saw his son on the internet yesterday reading a letter:

[Lula does a childish voice mimicking Eduardo]: "'Oh, Trump, Trump' you know? 'Pwease say you won't tax Brazil, if my father isn't arrested.' What kind of man is this, folks? What kind of man is this who has no shame? Shouldn't he be facing his trial head on and proving that he was innocent [instead of doing this]?"

the summer has come, and what time is this, it's #beanwatch time 🎉🎉🎉:

nothing ever happens with beans though: cocoa still around 8k (although rose by 3% just today), coffee dropped to 280 (rip dreams of 700 coffee, the line is looking down and no rumors of harvest disasters), soy still floats around 1000 bucks (so no drastic usaid/tariff effect for this summer i guess?).

bean-think thinking retiring beanwatch in autumn, if they continue nothing ever happens rp

The latest video posted by Ansarallah/Houthis on the sinking of the Eternity C gave us a look at their Close Range Ballistic Missiles (CRBM, sub 300km range) in the anti ship role, and an anti ship cruise missile. Three different types of missiles can be identified.

  • Fateh Mobin, anti ship ballistic missile, 200-300km range. Inertial guidance in the midcourse, with electro optical terminal guidance, an infrared camera/sensor most likely.

  • Faleq 1/Fajr-4CL, 333mm diameter guided artillery rocket, used in the anti ship ballistic missile role. Range of 200+km. Inertial guidance in the midcourse, electro optical terminal guidance.

  • C-802/YJ-83/Noor/Al-Mandeb 2 anti ship cruise missile, originally a Chinese design, reverse engineered by Iran and now Yemen. Inertial guidance for most of the flight, active radar seeker for the final stage. Range of 120-170km.

Interesting to note that none of the missiles use satellite navigation at any stage of flight, all inertial navigation with various seperate terminal guidance seekers. So jamming would be ineffective as a means of defeat. Also all shorter range weapons sub 300km range, no need to use longer range weapons when the ships are off of the coast of Hodeidah.

There were at least three impacts, two from the CRBMs on the top, and one on the side, low down on the hull, likely from the cruise missile. Official statement said 6 missiles were fired.

The New York Times has revealed that US prosecutors have found evidence that Bukele made a deal with the MS-13 gang: in exchange for political support and less violence, the government would provide benefits in Salvadoran prisons. The pact came before Bukele proposed to Trump that El Salvador take in gang members imprisoned in the US. Trump accepted and sent more than $6 million as part of the deal, which is now the subject of an investigation. Authorities are investigating whether part of the money passed on by the White House was diverted to MS-13. The alleged deal may also have hindered US investigations into the gang, which is active even in the US.

Hacker group claims full breach of anti-Iran TV channel ‘Iran International’

The London-based Persian-language television channel Iran International has been targeted by a hacker group known as Hanzala, which has gained full access to the channel’s internal systems and released confidential information about its staff.

More below

spoiler

In a statement, the group announced it had completely infiltrated the network, shutting down its systems, servers, and communications infrastructure.

The group said it successfully extracted sensitive internal data, including confidential communications, personal staff information, financial records, and correspondence with foreign entities.

One of the most significant breaches, according to the hackers, was access to the channel’s primary message-receiving account, long used as a secure contact point for informants.

Hanzala said it held the full identity dossiers of more than 71,000 individuals who have communicated with the network.

The group said according to its analysis Iran International was operating as a “spy and media-infiltration network” under the direction of the Mossad, dressing up as an independent news outlet.

It has already released some identity data of the channel’s personnel and stated that more selected materials from the data cache will be made public soon.

The channel confirmed the breach, attributing the leak to unauthorized access to the computers of the targeted staff.
