... according to emails shared with NPR by an official who was not allowed to speak publicly.

This is not the first time in recent days that NPR has reported on information from anonymous sources who are not authorized to speak publicly.

Kudos to NPR, and kudos to those sources.

May they all see the next sunrise and those after.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 days ago

Just don't stand too close to the window

[–] [email protected] 90 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Hmm, they've made lists of autistic people, trans people and poor people. These fascists sure do love lists - can't imagine why.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

Not that I'm in favor of disarming citizens, but if you bring up gun control around these people, one of their first arguments against it is that a database of people who own guns is bad because it will be used for nefarious purposes. The unspoken part is "because that's what we would do."

[–] [email protected] 18 points 6 days ago (2 children)

As long as they don't make a list of all the gun owners, they'll probably retain power.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 6 days ago (3 children)

They 100% have lists of gun owners.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 6 days ago

Doubtful that any lists they have are particularly accurate. There’s a lot of loopholes and decentralization/fragmentation on where that information is.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago

LOL no they don’t!

Several states require firearm registration, as does the fed for certain types of firearms.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (2 children)

That’s an interesting way of spelling, “no.”

Most states do not require firearms registration. There’s a handful that explicitly prohibit it. As far as states that have a general firearms registration is concerned, it’s limited to Hawaii and DC, so sure… you’ll get some people on a list there.

CA, CT, NY - there’s only a registry for certain types, not all.

There’s also no federal firearms registry whatsoever.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

That’s an interesting way of spelling, “no.”

But the answer isn't "no". There are lists. That's what the registry is. It's a literal list of people who own firearms.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

So if a list is < 1% complete, that’s good enough?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago

It's good enough that it should be a concern, given the current admin with access to those lists.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago (2 children)

All they have to do is grab a copy of the NRA membership roster and mandate that gun stores turn over sales records for purchases of guns or ammunition.

I guarantee they can get you on a list pretty quick if they want to.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yep, because cash isn't a thing and everyone that owns a gun is an NRA member.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 days ago (2 children)

If the government wants you to have to show id to buy ammo, it'll happen.

Unless you are manufacturing your own ammunition, you have to interact with someone the government has leverage over.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

Also, it's really easy to make re-loaded ammo.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

You have to show ID to buy ammo now. They don't take a picture of your ID and send it off somewhere when that happens, they just make sure that you're old enough to buy it (like alcohol or cigarettes). For me, they look at me and see that I'm over 40 and that's good enough to be my ID.

I don't know where you're coming up with your bullshit but you should stop. It's a waste of your time, and it's all wrong.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Do you not think the feds could pass a law saying that sellers have to keep a list of everyone who buys guns or ammo?

Honestly, I'm really curious at this point why commenters here are so absolutely convinced that they couldn't.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Lmfao, no. Just stop.

The feds DO NOT PASS LAWS!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What do you think Congress does then?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

LMFAO - do you think Congress is "the feds?" If you're not a US citizen, your lack of info is forgivable.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Congress is the legislative branch of the federal government, yes. They make the laws carried out by the executive branch. "Feds" refers to federal employees.

So yeah, members of Congress are feds, though not the ones you are used to seeing at your door.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

No, “Feds” refers specifically to federal law enforcement. The “fed” sets interest rates.

No one refers to congress as the feds.

At this point it’s clear you’re trolling.

And blocked

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 days ago

Gun manufacturers have already been caught giving warranty registration info to political action groups.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

What about all those guns I bought privately with cash and then buried? Good fucking luck gubbermint.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I know, right? I thought all the gun owners lost them in a boating accident. I have no idea why so many gun owners take their entire collection fishing.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

The fish have had it too good for too long! They must face the wrath of fire, thunder, and lead!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 days ago

Require LOL yea and they require car insurance too! Still doesn’t matter!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago

they will probably ignored red districts, and counties.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 days ago

This means I've finally made it onto a list.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

You don't have to concentration camp people if they're dependent on the government to eat. You just have to cut off the money. They'll starve all on their own.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

In cities designed for cars that also helps isolate you from communities and fighting back

[–] [email protected] 29 points 6 days ago

Personal data that won't be shared with anyone, but coincidentally there will be a spike in ICE investigations on people of color in those areas.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 days ago

Grok is about to be REALLY knowledgeable

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)
