Daylight savings time needs to end. Permanent standard time. Permanent DST is a bad idea.

There are a lot of people doing obvious trolls. You can usually tell by looking at their other posting history if they are rage baiting or trolling. If I get a sense that a comment/post is sincere, I won't touch it unless it's a clear rule violation. Yes is it is subjective, but it's also not fun to live in a world where trolls are aloud to do whatever they want. We already do IRL. Also we listen to appeals and if you feel you've had a sincere post/comment removed for trolling, reach out and we can talk about it.

Also, for what it's worth, I see a lot of reports for trolling that I don't remove because I can tell they are either being sincere or the reporter is just in a pissing match with the poster. At the end of the day we aren't here to silence those you disagree with if they otherwise aren't breaking the rules.

Someone pointed out to me that this community doesn't have an icon (or banner). I inherited this community so I actually hadn't noticed. I'll be thinking about it but I am open to suggestions. I made the banner and Icon for !memes, but all of those are the non political types. I'll leave this post for a few days and see what we come up with.

Iran War Megathread (lemmy.world)

An excellent suggestion was made to concentrate Iran conversation and posting to this mega thread. Please keep as much as you can here so that the main feed isn't overburdened by Iran news.

Hey guys, it was brought up in a report that NSFW tags should be applied to posts depicting drug use. What do you guys think? I could see it either way and thought you guys might like to weigh in on it. I personally don't find it particularly offensive but my work environments have never been the type to react strongly to something like this popping up on screen (I think they might be more upset about being on Lemmy at all). Currently there is no rule, and I am fine with that, unless feedback indicates the community would rather play it safe and require the NSFW flag.

There is something fun and sinister about a well done lovecraftian style story. If you don't mind that sort of thing I HIGHLY recommend "The Void" during your halloween times. It is very lovecraftian and works on a lot of levels. To me "Event Horizon" also has that feel. As long as the stories play up the creep factor over the sheer gore of it all I think there are some cool ideas here.

ARTICLE>> https://screenrant.com/lovecraft-stories-movie-adaptations-need-modern/

H.P. Lovecraft was known for his fantastical novels, whose influence has bled into the cultural perception of horror, making them perfect for modern movie adaptations. Lovecraft is undoubtedly a flawed and prejudiced figure in literature, and any undertaking to adapt his stories should acknowledge the issues of racism, xenophobia, and homophobia in his work. Bringing Lovecraft into the modern era means doing his work justice, as well as exploring how they can be made more reflective of the present day.

This is the movie I probably would have seen this weekend if they hadn't shut down all of the Alamo Drafthouse theaters in my city. Was it a good time?

I would love to see a well made watchmen project. I have been working through the graphic novels and am really impressed with the writing and the art.

I really hope this is a good thing. I don't want to see theaters die, but I really hope Sony doesn't interfere with the things that make Alamo Drafthouse great... I really hope they can rectify the closure of all the DFW locations as well.

That is funny, and a stupid offer, but I do get annoyed by the sellers selling something for $50 you offer $45 or something and they counter offer $49. If you aren't going to take a decent offer or at least meet in the middle, why not just turn off the best offer option? Why waste both of our time?

The fundamental tenet of a working democracy is voting. Everyone should have a vote and everyone should exercise their right to vote. To that end we have been seeing posts attempting to shame/mock or otherwise influence people not to vote. While this is a meme community, the idea that people shouldn’t vote goes against the fundamentals of a democracy by the people and for the people. To that end, we are adding a new rule that disallows posts that discourage or shame people from voting. This doesn’t mean that you can’t address how people vote, but even those who don’t agree with you and your political views should still vote. We all should. Everyone. Part of the reason we are in the mess we are in now is because participation in democracy is abysmal. Posts discouraging people from voting are essentially propaganda and will be removed.

PoliticalMemes is a community for having fun at the expense of our political hellscape we find ourselves in. People not voting is a big part of why.

We are taking feedback on this change, please let us know if you agree or disagree in the comments and why.
