I know an artist that got super rich off of NFTs, she didn't own any or had anything to do with the crypto side she just made the "apes" though I think hers were mostly fairies. She's very good at the whole "industrial artist" gig. NFTs honestly seemed like a gold rush for people with the ability to navigate that space. She cleared half a million one year.

catgirl-salute to your friend and her getting her bag from those NFT dorks

When Facebook was just starting out in 2005 an artist painted murals for them. He asked for $60,000. They offered the option taking Facebook stock instead. He took the stock. The following article was published in 2017.

How Facebook graffiti artist David Choe earned $200 million

It was a risky decision. As Choe told Stern, at that time “Facebook was a joke.” There was no guarantee that the business would amount to anything and his shares could wind up worthless. He took the stock. When Facebook went public at $38 a share in 2012, his stock options were worth $200 million, making him a bona fide multimillionaire. Today the common stock is at more than $171 per share.

Meta stock right now is $676.49.

Edit

Is every single male even remotely connected to tech like this?...

Choe and his work have also been the subject of controversy. In June, a newly finished mural by Choe in New York City’s Bowery neighborhood was almost immediately tagged over, reportedly as protest against his alleged history of sexaul assault.

Fucking…. I don’t get it. It’s so easy to not sexually assault people. wtf is wrong with these men?

[–] [email protected] 16 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Whenever there's a story about tech and the man is notable at all - I need to remember to scroll to the bottom of the article to see if there are sexual abuse claims.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago

Someone should make a browser extension for that.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago

It’s also easy to just do it and get away with it. Statistics on this speak a very clear language.

NFTs will be looked back upon as the golden age for scammers. If I went back in time and told P. T. Barnum about them, he'd weep tears of joy

[–] [email protected] 31 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Remember when Seth Green was going to have a tv based off his BoredApe?

Last I heard he got scammed and lost it lol

I don't understand why he didn't just make it anyway. Or I know why, he believes in that shit, but still. Owning the nft is just you owning a jpeg. Copyright law is meaningless here and whoever steps forward as the owner also steps forward as a thief.

I'm glad he didn't make it though, he should stick to what he's good at: Asking what if the action figure of Wonder Woman caught the action figure of Dennis the Menace, tied him up and it turns out Dennis is into bondage, which she thinks is nasty because he's a child, and then he swears.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Owning the nft is just you owning a jpeg.

Worse, it's you owning the URL to a jpeg. Owning an NFT != holding a copyright to the linked artwork.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

NFTs are one of my favourite examples to point to when I'm asked why I despise journalists

[–] [email protected] 36 points 3 days ago (1 children)

oh, you're right. I didn't realize I could use multiple slurp juices on a single ape.

what a goodmine put me down for $40,000 worth.

Why is this still not an emoji???????!????

The top comment to that still gets me. Some guy going "hey... I know you're sad and this all sucks, but maybe remove your profile pic? Since you don't own it anymore? It's copyright infringement. Please?

I've been trying to learn Mandarin recently and despite only knowing like 3 symbols it is a hell of a lot easier for me to understand than whatever this is.

3 years later and some of you simpletons still don't fucking realize the potential of the slurp juices. No wonder your apes put you in college level debt, YOU FORGOT ABOUT SLURP JUICE. since 2022 i've quadrupled my net worth by investing monthly in 2-3 slurp juices per ape, with the occasional seminal slushy for nourishing their growth potential. My properties are worth more than mar-a-lago kid.

a simpler and more innocent time

The weird thing for me is that even though they were introduced in the second year of Trump's first term - they seem like they were introduced before his term started. If that makes sense. Okay, that makes no sense but it's still how I feel.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Honestly for me it's the opposite. If you'd said this was 2022 I'd believe you

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago (5 children)

What if I told you that's not air you're breathing?

Holy shit. Morpheus actually says "Do you think that's air you're breathing?"

In The Matrix (1999), Morpheus never says the phrase "What if I told you" : MovieDetails

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Do you think that's apes you're slurping? Hmm.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago

I know these slurp juices don't exist. I know that when I put them in my mouth - the Matrix is telling my brain that they are juicy and delicious. Yum.

Is this actually an NFT post? This seems like satire. It has to be satire. Please tell me its satire!

Sorry, it's unironic. See my top level comment with the "Know Your Meme" link.

Host: alright folks here it is

I said it before and I'll say it again, aren't these tech types supposed to be smart? Like they're the few people capable of understanding how technology works?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago

I think a significant percentage of people in tech don't know anything. For them tech stuff like NFTs, crypto, meme coins are an infinite number of magic black boxes. You put money into the box by buying NFTs and eventually you get more money. All you have to do is find the right box. If a tech bro is rich enough to begin with - he can create his own NFTs or whatever. And then other people put money into the black box to his benefit.

I expect that there will be some kind of massive crypto collapse during Trump's term. And the greedy, grasping tech bros will scream and cry they want a bailout for their massive stupidity in investing in a highly volatile speculative investment that they bought because it's directly marketed as not being connected to government. The small fry tech bros will be fucked because Trump only rewards criminals he respects. And you have to be some kind of the right combo of rich, successful, famous, and charismatic for Trump to like you,

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

they get how tech works the same way an iphone user knows the intricacies of cobalt refining.

poast.org is right-wing hate site. You can use xcancel.com instead.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Thanks, I can't keep up with this shit anymore.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

I bookmark all sorts of social media stuff so I can find it easily later. I never thought my system itself would become a pain. But it has thanks to Elon. If I want to find something that I know is a Twitter link - maybe it is. Or it's a Poast link. Or an xCancel link. Or a Nitter link. Or some Nitter instance that doesn't have "nitter" in the url. Or it might be Bluesky. My Twitter bookmarks are a mess. And when xCancel dies - I'll start bookmarking the new site - whatever the hell that's called.

I'll end on a funny note. My favorite Nitter instance was nitter.x86-64-unknown-linux-gnu.zip

NFTs and now all the genAI bullshit is the stupidest culture has ever been.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Oh my god I thought this was recent and was horrified

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago

I don't think any Hexbears have been successful yet with the lathe in wormhole mode. But then again - I might be wrong and it's possible I'm writing this comment for the hundred trillionth time.
