meanwhile the Disco Elysium writers who actually won an award didn't write any speech just got up there and thanked Marx and Engels

remember folks this is the studio that openly said “no feminists, no removeds” fuck this game & everyone who worked on it lol

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No what? I’m curious. It says removed

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 week ago

The F slur is what got removed. If you wanna read more about the developer’s history (and yeah yeah people rant about how bad IGN is whatever) there’s a good article here documenting the history of misogyny & anti-“woke” history the studio has, major CWs for misogyny, bigotry & suggestions of sexual violence How Black Myth: Wukong Developer’s History of Sexism Is Complicating its Journey to the West

Cannot imagine caring about the "Game Awards". Firstly, it's a stupid mix of industry professional nominations and popularity vote, I think. Secondly, it's called "The Game Awards" which is the least-inspired name ever. Thirdly, it's mostly just trailers and the emphasis is put on the trailers, so if you got free advertising from it by being mentioned on it constantly you're out ahead anyway.

still waiting for that game to be cracked

its not like they walked home empty handed, they did win two awards outside GOTY - bro really was saving his 'good' speech assuming they were taking GOTY lmao

From what I gather, the game is just yet another soulslike with nice graphics and a slightly incoherent and simplistic mechanics design.

Even disregarding the problematic positions of the makers of the game, there is still the fact that, as far as I can tell, the game is only really interesting for a very short while.

I had fun with it. I have no interest in replaying

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago

It's not a soulslike, it's more of a hack n slash game

the demo/trailers released over the last few years had generated a lot of praises both in China and internationally, and it fed their huge techbro/g*mer egos

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 week ago (3 children)

It's kind of the first major AAA international release by a Chinese studio so that's why it was considered a big deal

It’s not just that, Journey to the West is literally the most popular cultural staple of the Chinese/East Asian culture. It transcends age, gender, even political beliefs and national boundaries. Even people who don’t care about video games paid at least some attention to it.

IGN China gave it a perfect 10/10 score. It got into these people’s heads coming from making shitty mobile games.

It is a big deal! Its just a mid game

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think those anime gambling simulators might be more AAA, both in budget and design philosophy.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

Gacha games for weeaboos are not AAA

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

the lowest rated game to ever be on the GOTY noms list btw

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think that just means people liked it more than reviewers

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

i'm not even suggesting it's a bad game, i still want to play it. but it wasn't a super-polished piece of groundbreaking art, and i think this is another piece of evidence that makes this ceo's response seem even more unhinged.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 week ago

They got high on their own supply. It is a mediocre game with nice graphics, nothing more.
