As a Jew, I appreciate this. It might be presumptuous, but I assume you’re somewhere in Europe, maybe Germany? Europe endured incredible generational trauma, and it would probably be easier to ignore all of it and not put up plaques, but some countries put in serious work to try to make things right and make sure something like that doesn’t happen again. Hell, I was recently offered an application for citizenship to the European country my grandparents escaped from, as part of their reparations program. What I’m saying is, there will be trauma and long term pain, but it’s also possible to heal and grow. Since there are other genocides going on in the world right now, it’s important to remember that these atrocities continue to happen in the modern world, but that it’s possible for us to stop them and move on.
In Germany, they’re called Stolpersteine, or stumbling blocks (a metaphorical hurdle that prevents or inhibits you from reaching your goal). It feels like a warning that humanity must reckon with our susceptibility towards fascism if we want to achieve lasting peace.

I spent some time in Berlin, and I was genuinely moved at how present the history is. There is no attempt to hide anything, and I respect and appreciate that immensely.

The thing people don't get is human life didn't evolve in the Americas, we are ALL immigrants or the desendants of immigrants. The only difference is were you naturalized this year, like my daughter in law, 200 years ago like my family or 10,000 years ago like the First Nations.

The only reason why this ghoul isn't in jail for corruption right now is that the ones tasked with prosecuting him were his own employees who were more worried about him or his cronies retaliating than seeing justice done.
Thus, the headline is a lie: he's immune from consequences in Texas and there's no way that the Garland DOJ will have the courage to mount a federal case against him. Least of all during a presidential election year.
I now know why the GOP didn't follow through when they told Obama "you'd never pick a good moderate like Garland for scotus." He did pick him and they continued with their bullshit "it's an election year wait for the election."
They knew he's too much of a coward to do anything whatsoever so he'd be as useless to them as he would be to anyone.

I think he’s going to continue to get away with pretty much whatever he wants until and unless he catches some high-velocity lead poisoning, or is exposed to an energetic exothermic reaction in close proximity. There is no way in hell any element of the TX state government will hold him accountable.
Funny that he's targeting Democrats when just about every investigation/recount/whatever into voter fraud always turns out to be Republicans.

They confiscated their license to register voters as part of the evidence. This is to stop them from signing people up to vote.
I’m sorry their what? You need a licence to hand someone a printed form or sit them down in front of a website? And this is supposed to be the state of freedom and small government?
Freedom to do what they tell you to and a government small enough to fit into woman's vagina. There is a reason the state is only rated one lone star.
The goal is probably to prevent those voters from being re-added to the list before the registration deadline expires. If that happens then they've succeeded even if they ultimately lost in court sometime next year.
Will that trouble result in consequences for his actions? One can only hope. But, probably not.
