On this day in 1953, the U.S. and British governments initiated a coup d'état against the democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran, Mohammad Mosaddegh. Mosaddegh had been preparing to nationalize Iran's British-owned oil fields.

Mosaddegh had sought to audit the documents of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (AIOC), later re-named British Petroleum, and to limit the company's control over Iranian oil reserves. When the AIOC refused to cooperate with the Iranian government, the parliament voted to nationalize Iran's oil industry and to expel foreign corporate representatives from the country.

In response, the British began a worldwide boycott of Iranian oil to pressure Iran economically and engaged in subterfuge to undermine Mosaddegh's government.

Judging Mosaddegh to be unreliable and fearing a communist takeover, Winston Churchill and the Eisenhower administration overthrew Iran's government. The coup action was also supported by the Iranian clergy, who opposed Mosaddegh's secularism.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) hired mobsters to stage pro-Shah riots and paid people to travel to Tehran and take over the streets of the city. Between 200 and 300 people were killed in the ensuing mayhem.

Mosaddegh was arrested, tried, and convicted of treason by the Shah's military court. Many of his supporters were imprisoned, several received the death penalty. Mosaddegh himself lived the rest of his life under house arrest, dying in 1967.

After the coup, the Shah ruled as a monarch for the next 26 years until he was overthrown in the Iranian Revolution in 1979.

So, hows everyone doing? It's almost midnight here and my brain med fog is finally starting to go away. Got 2 big days of band stuff starting tomorrow, so gonna switch to taking at night to hopefully mitigate my "wet blanket brain"

Mom: “So how was your day at work”

Me: “oh nothing really crazy happened today”

“My day at work”: go to the skatepark for a couple hours then slept for 6 hours in my car in the back of a kohls parking lot

Also for some reason kohls have the biggest and nicest parking lots in the area despite not being a popular store

The most annoying thing any sci-fi story can do is make humans or earth special for no real reason. Like when a story is about how unique humans are because of their spirit or determination or whatever. Like, what, no other species in the universe are as plucky as humans? No other species have the "human spirit"?

Its basically just repackaged racism. There is a very special planet and it has very special people for completely metaphysical reasons. The rest of the universe is filled with stinky people who die easily, but humans are special and different.

Unwillingly was subjected to CNN earlier today. They had a old Dem representative from Michigan named Debbie Driscoll on to prattle on about how historic and amazing the convention is gonna be and blah blah blah but the entire time I kept thinking of Dr. Steve Brule trying to pronounce her name and cracked up

"Joining us now to talk about the lousy ol' convention is Repesrentatrive Drebby Dringus."

I talked to a lawyer about suing the guy who made me homeless and abused my pets. They said that it would be foolish paying something like 15k to litigate a case in civil court that could at best get like 25k so I should just take the 10k cap at small claims. Then he offered a flat fee of 2.5k to do all the prep work for me. At the same time that seems like a really good idea because I'm dealing with a verbal contract, but it seems like a crazy amount of money. He's asking for a quarter of the max judgement. Wah I need an adult.

The cis are really trying my patience here. I just want to pirate music and now I have to ponder what sort of gender essentialism algorithm they're using and how they're subtly reinforcing cis society.

black myth wukong discourse is tiring.

'work culture' and misogyny in east asian societies is usually just an acceptable way for liberal mayos to be orientalist by pretending that chuds are a uniquely korean/chinese phenomenon. not like the manosphere doesn't exist.

What I think would be an effective prank is just shipping random junk to people because they'd probably gaslight themselves into think they ordered it and need it. "No of course, I always wanted this plastic doohickey from alibaba"

>subsubstudio makes really good game
>you have exclusivity rights to the game so you only put it on your own platforms because you are a monopoly
>immediately shutter subsubstudio
>literally, the day after you do this, talk to media about how you want more games under your umbrella like the game that came from the studio you literally just closed
>console-independent publisher buys off the rights to the game and re-establishes the studio under their banner. you no longer control its distribution but, hey, at least you cashed out selling the IP back to the studio

what an incredible business model amerikkka-clap
