I cannot describe how much I hate the trope of a story introducing a new character in season two who comes in like "hey there, I'm the new boss and I don't like what's been going on around here, I'm going to slow the plot down to a crawl by opposing everything on the grounds that I'm a stereotypical bureaucrat and I don't like it when the main characters are able to achieve any progress whatsoever. I don't have any real motivations or goals other than to create spontaneous conflict in lieu of an actual narrative."

It is the literary equivalent of pissing in my cereal, and if you write a character like that you should be hooked up to a collar that shocks you every time you pick up a pen.

Also, they are NOT redeemed if it turns out they were actually just being annoying obstructionists as a ruse and were secretly doing the right thing behind the scenes, because I didn't get to watch those scenes! I had to watch them being fucking annoying!

Rewatching ds9 and obrien had to fix a replicator and to make sure it works he order a coffee. It replicates one and does he scan it with a tricordwr to make sure it is in fact coffee and the replicator isn't continuing to malfunction and added plutonium to the coffee. my roommates friend recently went on a facebook tirade about how me and my roommate are 'forcing him to be gay', an allegation which has some gruesome implications of abuse on our part for anyone scrolling by the post, when all we did was suggest that they maybe didn't understand what 'asexual' means (they literally unironically thought it was the same as being an incel) and suggested that they might possibly be bi or gay or pan or something. they also claimed that, because me and my roommate refuse to support transphobic creators like dave chapelle or jk rowling, we are apparently a 'cult'. they are neurodivergent like me and my roommate so i don't want to be too mad and confused but its like 1 week of being on discord and around their parents and they are re-programmed into a Qanon anti-woke treat-brained bigot. we called out their post and they are whining about us 'slandering' him, which is wild since he is essentially publicly accusing me and my roommate of sexual harassment or abuse, and he has been threatening to fight my roommate and blaming me for my roommate 'changing' after moving in with me after i helped them leave their abusive ex. my roommate was drinking and responded in kind on facebook so we can't really report any threats, not that i take the threats seriously, apparently my roommates friend wants to leave us 'drinking through a strawl', and the one time we hung out in a park he spent the whole time stumbling and complaining about bugs flying into his open mouth. if they think harry potter and dave chapelle are worth more than trans people's lives, if they think any media criticism whatsoever (we never even told him to stop playing the HP game, just explained our position) is 'cult like behavior', then they and their illiterate, graceless ass can fuck off. i was getting sick of hearing their soundboards of racist youtuber and little girl pedo anime references during online games anyway. we couldn't even come across a larger black man player character model in video games (specifically the multiplayer character Hutch from call of duty) without them screaming and laughing about how they look like some youtuber or streamer who abused people. like, me and my roommate both have abuse related PTSD, read the fucking room or at least pay attention when we explicitly explain how that is problematic. I'm also gonna tell the people that usually text me that I'm unavailable and then turn off my phone so grindr shuts the fuck up. And I'm canceling my plans for tomorrow night.
