One of the major classic meditation objects is the ‘foulness of the body.’ I wonder how many monks would have been trans. Or autistic? Allistics don’t seem to understand how gross all humans are. Idk.
I think that there's a huge overlap between very religious people and neurodivergence. Like it's pretty easy to see how monastic life would appeal to autistic people. If I wasn't an atheist and they took trans girls it would probably be great for me lol.
Definitely. I’ve also heard about autistic Christians who care a lot more about the actual teachings than most people who claim the religion. There are many draws: the rules for how to live, the answers of “ultimate truth,” the wealth of knowledge to learn from, the ethics and justice, etc. It’s amazing how little regard most people have for existential issues today, and in the past they’d be satisfied with shallow religious answers from local leaders.
Edit: asexuality, being a hermit, extra dmt in the brain, explicit social rules, bottom up and black and white thought, and more are also bonuses. Being a monk sounds awesome. It’s a pity all the NTs who weren’t cut out for it but would fake stuff for free food.
Also discomfort with thoughts, confused identity, need to suppress impulses, focus on internal world, dispassion with senses… forgot to mention how it totally makes sense trans women used to be religious leaders in many cultures.
??
lol I have heard multiple people say that this plays a role in their theory for why as autists a magical or spiritual worldview draws them.
