Landlords are the reason UBI cannot work on its own

I keep telling libs that at the very least, they need to have a heavy land value tax if they want UBI to work. Because then, if they decide to raise the rent, they'll admit their land is more valuable and have to pay more in taxes. What are they going to do? Pass the tax onto their tenants? Raising rent is how they got high taxes. And if they try to ship their money overseas, well they can't since the land is the tax base.
Alternatively, we could the fuckers
Real Georgism has never been tried! But like, it for real hasn't.
At this point, I would gleefully settle for Georgism.
I hate the demiurge. When will we achieve Gnosis, bros?
And not just landlords, corporations are playing along now too with their cute little subscription models 🤗
Enshitification babeeeeeeee
Enshittification does have a historic term: rent-seeking behavior. It's all about taking more money without creating wealth. Even Adam Smith vehemently opposed this and called it anti free-market, since he wanted the market to also be free from lords.
Now, so much of the US economy is built around rent-seeking and now we're all scratching our heads why China is kicking our asses, and our governments are so corrupt.
Spending a few minutes with an “apolitical” or even non-leftist person kinda shows you how utterly fucked we are lmao these people live to uncritically consume their slop at whatever rate they’re charged. Just a prime example of people who don’t know what is in their best interest
There's also a decently large group who make us look like bloomers, who think that humanity is irredeemable and deserve to die due to climate change etc.
‘Tis why it’s socialism or barbarism
Mao really did have it right wrt land leeches
the maoist uprising against the landlords was the largest and most comprehensive proletarian revolution in history, and led to almost totally-equal redistribution of land among the peasantry
the english word "tax" comes from the latin word for "to owe" and originally taxes collected were land rents and they were called taxes because that was what you owed the landed lord to pay rent. the word "taxi" comes from the same root through "taximeter", a device for measuring how much is owed.
: "taxation is theft!"
: "Couldn't agree more!"
How do landlords find out you got a raise? That sounds like it should be illegal.
In we have local chambers of commerce, where business owners collaborate on setting wages across a local area. I'm guessing landlords use those statistics as well
It's legal for landleeches to ask for income source and amount. Most do.
My lease renewal had a required "employer" section that includes contact information for said employer. That's probably one way.
As far as I'm aware:
A landleech has no way of seeing your wage after you give the initial application with proof of income. I've lived in many places and signed multiple lease renewals all while changing or losing jobs many times. The only thing that mattered was that first application, none of the lease renewals required ongoing proof of income.
In the U.S. there's a government tax/income database (presumably the IRS) reachable over the internet where all income and employers are logged and searchable. I believe state welfare agencies and related (such as subsidized housing) get full access to this treasure trove but I don't know if private business and individuals can.
Generally, government jobs will have openly disclosed wage schedules given that they're publicly funded. A government employee can't really hide their income if someone wants to know it.
Knowing a non-government employee's precise wage at any point in time or being aware of a raise would require direct communication with the employer, so if someone like a private landleech is privy to that kind of info, there's probably some very illegal and/or unethical shit going on.
I now want to photoshop that, “I made this”, “…. i made this….” Meme but for a landlord. “I got a raise!” “… i got a raise…”
Name, rank, serial number, STFU.
