fuck AMAB genital mutilation!!! fucking weirdos!!!!!

[-] daychilde@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

I mean, I guess, looking at it with our modern understanding. I look at it like leeches - which were once viewed as a way of helping people get healthier, but then we figured out that was wrong.

[-] itsjustachairmary@lemmy.world 2 points 27 minutes ago

With circumcision we knew it wasn't for 'hygiene' for quite a long time lol. It's about masturbation. They want men to not be cranking it. They still will tho, that's the lie that everyone knows and everyone just pretends they don't. But it's always been about men jacking it. Can't be petting the snake with God watching.

Watch back. See eye to eye. Cocked and loaded

[-] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

So it's not as bad as Tylenol?

Is there a study to see if it helps with headache since I can't take Tylenol anymore?

[-] daannii@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

Can we spread a lie that it does ?

Idk what else will stop people from mutilating their child's genitals.

[-] Akh@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

There is no reason for it either…

[-] ActualGrapesTasteGreen@piefed.zip 24 points 3 hours ago

You needed a study to know that circumcising doesn't cause brain structure differences?

This IS idiocracy.

[-] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 24 points 3 hours ago

But it does mutilate the child's genitals.

[-] Racoonwithbenefits@lemmy.zip 30 points 4 hours ago

Im not surprised

But i am surprised that mutilating your childs genitals without their consent .. is perfectly legal

What next… we make a religion that wants to cuts off your own babies ears?

Wanna prevent me from doing that? Thats against me and my beliefs

[-] crazycraw@crazypeople.online 81 points 5 hours ago

can we still like, stop doing it though ?

No, sorry; tradition.

[-] homes@piefed.world 47 points 5 hours ago

What kind of craziness would cause a person to think that it might?

[-] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

Welcome to 2026. Hope your cryo sleep was good. You will find that this kind of craziness is now pervasive.

[-] Airfried@piefed.social 4 points 3 hours ago

What kind of craziness would cause a person to do it in the first place?

[-] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

Abusive murderous wizard friend needs his favorite little calamari rings.

[-] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 39 points 5 hours ago

Probably the same craziness that causes people to think vaccines cause autism.

[-] bizarroland@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

I would hazard a guess, which obviously I don't know if this is what they're really thinking or not, but I would guess that since there are behavioral overlaps between ASD and CPTSD, that somebody might have made the connection.

That being said, there's no evidence that circumcision gives people CPTSD on its own, at least none that I am aware of, and if somebody else knows more than I do, (which is quite easy to do), feel free to educate me.

[-] grranibal@lemmy.zip 8 points 5 hours ago

I got som’ Tylenol for you if you have coin for me :>

[-] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 9 points 4 hours ago

I could maybe see how the pain and/or trauma of it could alter how the brain might develop, but even that’s a stretch…

[-] PRIMEcavitationfetishist@quokk.au 2 points 2 hours ago

Autism isn't a trauma response!

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

Especially given the crossover between asd and CPTSD, it doesn’t strike me as an insane thing to look at, but I’m also not surprised it’s not related.

[-] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago

Genital mutiliation and child sexual abuse can have extreme consequences on mental development. It's a (well-intentioned) case of bad cause-effect analysis.

[-] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 4 hours ago

The brain bone is connected to the..... Dick skin bone?

[-] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 106 points 6 hours ago

Still genital mutiliation and child sex abuse

[-] slaacaa@lemmy.world 51 points 6 hours ago

Agree. I’m from Europe and I find it very weird how common it is in the US

[-] Reygle@lemmy.world 30 points 5 hours ago

It's SO common in the US that while growing up I felt ashamed and incredibly self concious of being uncircumsized in high school showers. Life's so strange.

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Thankfully the millennial generation has started doing away with circumcising our children. Last time I checked, which was admittedly 10 years ago, the circumcision rates were closer to 50/50 in the US.

Update: It's dropped below 50%!

“We reviewed over 1.5 million U.S. hospitalizations of male neonates, ages 0 to 28 days, during the period 2012 to 2022, and found that the overall prevalence of hospitalizations where a neonatal male circumcision was performed decreased significantly, from 54.1% to 49.3%,” says study co-senior author Aaron Tobian, M.D., Ph.D., professor of pathology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. “Decreases were observed across most patient and hospital subgroups, including whites — a group with traditionally high circumcision rates — where circumcisions dropped 5.3% over the decade studied.”

[-] taj@lemmy.world 1 points 23 minutes ago

My husband started out with the "he should look like me.." and then quickly came around after a bit of reading. The Adam Ruins Everything on circumcision is great!

[-] Reygle@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago

It's good to know it's moving toward not maiming kids. I'm afraid to ask about vaccination rates because my sister's kids are of questionable status on that front, and my sister won't talk about such things. Very alternative hippy type.

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 hours ago

I wish the stats were even better than they are now honestly. I think it's a horrendous practice.

[-] Canconda@lemmy.ca 15 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

It's not really a thing outside the USA? At least not in Canada anymore. I'm one of a bunch of kids and about halfway through my siblings they stopped recommending it.

Confused the hell out of 8 year old me tasked with giving my 3 year old brother a shower.

[-] PRIMEcavitationfetishist@quokk.au -1 points 1 hour ago

Yes bit it doesn't cause autism so it's not bad/wrong.

[-] crandlecan@mander.xyz 9 points 6 hours ago

you beat me to that exact phrase 👍

[-] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 19 points 5 hours ago

"Parents have been concerned about this potential circumcision-autism connection, but hopefully these findings may help allay their fears," says senior author Monica McGrath

Dear Dr. McGrath,

Which parents?

Sincerely,

Sane people

[-] RustySharp@programming.dev 8 points 4 hours ago

The ones who wouldn't be persuaded by peer reviewed studies anyway, because they did their research.

[-] Canconda@lemmy.ca 22 points 6 hours ago

Obviously. Nowhere to hide the Tylenol.

(why am I like this?)

[-] crandlecan@mander.xyz 4 points 5 hours ago
[-] Canconda@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

hmmmm no. Making a jokes about hiding autism inducing OTCs in your foreskin defs comes from different place than that for me

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Ah, personal experience!

[-] adespoton@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 hours ago

This just in: wisdom tooth removal does not cause autism. Neither does forcibly removing fingernails.

I mean, they’re all things not to do unless there’s a medical reason for it? But while doing it has consequences, they generally have to do with personal (dis)comfort.

That said, I’d be upset if someone tried ANY of those procedures on a baby, as they’re all unnecessary on infants.

[-] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 9 points 6 hours ago

It can result in higher rates of herpes in some communities though.

[-] meat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 4 hours ago

Is it really too much to ask that jewish leaders with herpes not put their mouths on chilren's penises after cutting them? Wow.

[-] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

Maybe we're just making mountains out of mohels though.

[-] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Not at all what the article says. The herpes connection has nothing to do with the act of circumcision, and was a review of individual case studies, not an overall rate.

[-] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

I stand corrected, it's totally not weird for some old dude to suck a baby dick and this hasn't resulted in transmission of disease. Well done.
