The song itself being the worst canned white reggae is pretty funny. It would not surprise me if the backing track is entirely AI generated.

[-] Sebrof@hexbear.net 9 points 15 hours ago

Last month, Boy George launched a new company called Artist Included, which will use AI to allow artists to create new versions of earlier songs which resemble the originals, as a way of wresting back control of master recordings. It launched with a new version of Karma Chameleon, which Boy George recorded then de-aged. “When I heard it, I was absolutely gobsmacked,” he told the Hollywood Reporter. “It sounds like another take from that original session.”

Hey anyone remember when Boy George did a year in prison for kidnapping a male sex worker? (cw: sexual abuse).

Also apparently weirdly high number of young gay dudes have ODed while hanging with him, like weirdly high even for an 80s rock star.

[-] SerialExperimentsGay@hexbear.net 7 points 14 hours ago

He didn't do a year in prison, he was sentenced to 15 months, got out on probation after 4 months and immediately filed a request to go on Celebrity Big Brother while still wearing his ankle monitor.

[-] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 3 points 12 hours ago

Celebrity Big Brother while still wearing his ankle monitor.

HAHAHAHA! Did the topic of why he had a fucking ankle monitor on ever come up on the show?

[-] SerialExperimentsGay@hexbear.net 5 points 12 hours ago

His parole officer didn't let him go on the show, they were afraid it would make look the parole office look bad if you goof around on national TV while you're technically still serving a sentence for abusing a sex worker.

First line is explicit genocide denial. Cool cool

[-] BoxedFenders@hexbear.net 30 points 1 day ago

Joining the list of once iconoclastic Br*tish musicians that became fascist bootlicking Zionists- Morrissey, Nick Cave, Radiohead (the entire band), Johnny Rotten, and on and on.

[-] mr_sunburn@hexbear.net 7 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Radiohead (the entire band)

Now wait a sec - even Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway? They at least use the genocide label and repost social media stuff... okay maybe that doesn't beat playing in Israel.

Nick Cave

Damn, I didn't even know about his views, super disappointing.

At least Roger Waters is consistent on this issue. (Though he did just appear on Tucker Carlson...)

Okay, I give up with the old guys. All hail King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard!

[-] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 1 points 5 hours ago

Can't see the King Gizz post without logging in.

"Became" fascist

“Reggae, for example, is to me the most racist music in the entire world. It's an absolute total glorification of black supremacy... I don’t have very cast iron opinions on black music other than black modern music which I detest. I detest Stevie Wonder. I think Diana Ross is awful. I hate all those records in the Top 40 – Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston. I think they’re vile in the extreme... Obviously to get on Top Of The Pops these days, one has to be, by law, black” -Morrissey, 1986

Nick Cave mostly sings about sexual violence, killing women, treating them as sex objects. There's also his weird lyrics about "homos" and that one song where the narrator murders an f-slur because it was so shameful to do drugs and fuck a man.

[-] BoxedFenders@hexbear.net 2 points 12 hours ago

Yeah, obviously in hindsight they always were, but they could maintain plausible deniability by hiding behind their public personas as liberal darlings in an age before social media. I can't believe the shit Morrissey used to get away with saying back then. Just an absolutely vile bigot who got a pass because of his "quirky, depressed gay man" image.

[-] Muinteoir_Saoirse@hexbear.net 4 points 9 hours ago

Yeah Morrissey was wild. That man called Chinese people a "subspecies," like pure white supremacism, and people still mostly just talked about the vegan thing.

Kabbakabbakabbalah chameleon.

Shame, I liked culture club.

Boy-Murdering George

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago

Well known awful person keeps beong awful. Culture Club had some sick tunes and are on the lower rung of 80s new wave one hit wonders who have some better stuff than their hits but the guy is a monster so they don't get recommended to people when an 80s Playlist comes on at work. The best one hit wonder new wave bands are 1) Soft Cell. Thwir second biggest song is called Sex Dwarf and is closer to what they normally did 2) A Flock of Seagulls (seriously listen to their first album, it is wall to wall perfect synthpop hits, I Ran is the weakest one), 3) Ah-Ha

[-] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 9 points 22 hours ago

Soft Cell's second album (The Art of Falling Apart) is one of the best Synthpop albums ever made.

[-] Sasuke@hexbear.net 7 points 22 hours ago

A Flock of Seagulls

Space Age Love Song should have been their big hit

[-] 30_to_50_Feral_PAWGs@hexbear.net 5 points 16 hours ago

The Edgelord from U2 literally ripped off his guitar effects layering from them, too. Paul Reynolds was massively influential on the synthpop scene for stacking the ever-loving shit out of modulation effects, and as a result, he's kind of the missing link between the post-punk/shoegaze sound and what we normally associate with New Wave.

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 6 points 22 hours ago

It was their second biggest. Messages, Telecommunications and Dont Ask Me as well ask the sorta hit Modern Love is Automatic hit so fucking hard too.

Boy-Murdering George is welcome to burn alive like Shaban al-Dalou did after the zionists dropped incendiaries on the tent he was recuperating in outside an already-bombed hospital

That hat makes me think of that Jamiroquai song Virtual Insanity.

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago

So far, Jamiroquai hasn't come out as a Zionist pig-dog, so you know what?

Better musician

[-] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 11 points 22 hours ago

nerd Actually, Jamiroquai is the name of a band, not a musician.

[-] dead@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

In 2018 Jamiroquai performed in Tel Aviv (for the first time) despite fans urging them not to. At the same time that Jamiroquai was performing, the 'Great March of Return' protests were occurring in Gaza. Israel murdered 223 Palestinians during the Great March of Return protests, mostly killed by snipers.

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 13 points 23 hours ago

Aw man when he said "I think I need a new religion" I didn't think he meant Zionism

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago

Well, then they can fuck off too

[-] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

They both have one good song and Virtual Insanity is better than Karma Chameleon
