Hello, i was wondering if there are any good indie games on steam to try out. Can be free or paid, i don't mind if there's no native linux build either (i play stuff with wine/proton anyways lol) and i don't mind the genre. I've been thinking of trying something new as of recent so i thought i might ask it here.

Thanks!

Ardor: Free deck builder rougelike ( lite? ).

Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom: 3D platformer collectathon where you are a taxi.

KilaFlow: Fast paced precision 3D platformer.

Frogun: Slow paced 3D platformer.

Brok the InvestiGator: Describes itself as a "punch and click" type of game. Dev has a spin-off survival visual novel called Celsius Strays in the works, with playable demo of the beginning of the game.

Corn Kidz 64: Fairly short collectathon that does a great job of feeling like an n64 title.

Oaken Tower: I have a very love hate relationship with the game and at one point got angry enough to leave a nasty post on mastodon about wishing the dev harm. Still recommend it, though.

Coal LLC: 2D game about going down to collect coal.

The Ourboros King: Chess rouglike ( lite? ) with weird pieces and obstacles on the board.

Mail Mole: No, you ain't collecting mail in this 3D platformer.

Omelet You Cook: Roguelike ( lite? ) about placing ingredients on omelettes.

Me and my wife (not much of a gamer) have been playing All Hands on Deck and she loves it. Shared screen co-op puzzle platformer. Wholesome family fun!

If you like chill but makes you think try Strange Horticulture and if you like that one do Strange Antiques after it.

I HIGHLY suggest not using a guide for a first play through.

Exceptional free indie games on Steam. Sheepy has a great atmosphere. Unless is an excellent 2D platformer. Halloween Capybaras has great atmosphere and visual effects.

These are what came to mind, as good ones, that I remember. I guess I'll stop now. I'm sure if I went through my Steam reviews, I would find numerous more great indie titles as well.

Absolute +1 for New Super Lucky's Tale. Such a quaint and fun platformer. Love it.

A Hat in Time

Lovely game, plays a bit like Mario 64.

You've surely heard of Slay the Spire, and if you liked that I would strongly recommend Monster Train.

And if you still want more there is also Chrono Ark.

Only like... a million of them? I could throw you some suggestions but narrowing it down to a few genres would probably help.

Titanium Court is probably the best game released so far this year, my frontrunner for GOTY and one of the best (or at least most interesting) games I've ever played. Don't look up anything about it, just play it blind. Trust me.

Withering Rooms is a wonderful and unique action/horror roguelike made by a single person with some wonderful world building, story and and art direction. Lots of different build variety too.

Death Howl is a really cool grid-based strategy/deckbuilder. Really beautiful pixel art, too.

This is just some of what I've played recently, any of that strike your fancy? I can probably come up with more if you give me more to work with.

Death Howl is so cool, +1 to that

If you have your life affairs in order, you could try Factorio. Your friends and loved ones won't see you for months.

[-] TehPers@beehaw.org 2 points 6 hours ago

Months is an understatement. Just remember to eat, drink water, and sleep now and then. It helps to keep a window nearby so you can track when it's day/night as well.

[-] Powderhorn@beehaw.org 3 points 6 hours ago

Months is just trying to optimize your first run. Then, you discover mods.

Going Under got me through the pandemic. It is still my favorite game.

If you ever want a solid local multiplayer, I would recommend Boomerang Fu.

Space Station 14! Free and open source and outrageous fun and deep

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1255460/Space_Station_14/

You can completely ignore the "playtest" and "coming to early access" stuff, this is a solid and stable codebase with dozens if not hundreds of forks, nearly all of which are accessible from the launcher

[-] Mopplikus@feddit.org 5 points 16 hours ago

If you like puzzle-like games, give Chants of Sennaar a try! The mechanics are super unique, not very difficult either. I loved every bit of it

[-] tantamoq@feddit.nl 3 points 15 hours ago

For the king was on sale for like 3 bucks the other day. Absolute steal. Even better if you have people to co-op with. Fantastic three person co-op.

[-] Dymonika@beehaw.org 1 points 4 hours ago

The best 3-person co-op is the deckbuilder Hellcard; it blows StS/2 out of the water, IMO.

Braid and Witness.
Probably two of my most favourite puzzles, by the same developer

[-] karashta@piefed.social 2 points 18 hours ago

The Last Hero of Nostalgaia is a love letter to DS1 couched in a humorous facade.

[-] viertesauge@feddit.org 2 points 19 hours ago

Northern Journey is a personal highlight for me. Very atmospheric and interesting visuals but should run on a potato.
