This is why I'm a flesh alchemist, because my right to achieve ecstatic gnosis through ungodly long sessions of stimfapping on offbrand Walmart Benadryl to then take HUGE doses of DXM to write incest erotica that pays for my apartment, at least for now. And the otc drug habit I obviously am unashamed about. You wanna hear about tulpamancing inodaemonic spirits into reality as well?

This only applies to the Anton Levay side of things. Actual Satanic cults/groups have existed for hundreds/thousand-ish years prior to the original cringe edgelord woman/kid beater Levay.

If Christians sincerely believed in Satan, I have to assume far fewer of them would be soldiers, sex pests, and sleazeball businessmen.

I would posit more Satanists have a sincerely spiritual view of "The Fallen Angel that liberated mankind from the shackles of a tyrannical God-King" than Christians have of "The Holy Panopticon that damns you to hellfire for spanking it".

The problem is they think they have the magic words, the "get out of jail free card", to skip out on that.

[-] chaogomu@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

Which all conveniently ignores the Sermon on the Mount, especially the Sheep and the Goats.

That parable specifically says that belief alone is not enough if you don't also act on it to make the world better, further saying that if you ignore those in need, you're going to hell.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

I think it's "faith without works is dead". I don't think it ever says you're going to hell without them. Could be wrong though.

[-] chaogomu@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

Seems pretty clear to me, starting at line 41 on.

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

You thought you were in church or what? I have a very limited interest in the croaks of the crucified toad.

[-] auntieclokwise@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

It also ignores James who explicitly says that you need works and faith. That particular passage seems to be a direct response contradicting Paul who strongly asserted that it's just faith. Which makes it really fun for Christians who claim the Bible is inerrant or that if there are any issues, they don't affect theology.

Everything is a lie. Our concepts of reality and godliness are simply a construct built on our own imagination to control the masses. Be an individual. Be aware of the ways in which you interact with EVERYTHING (yes, even rocks and such).

Be aware & be unique. Odds are, you'll end up contributing in ways you can never foresee.

[-] oce@jlai.lu 4 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

Everything is a belief, but the beliefs can be ranked with rational methods. For exemple, quantum physics is a system of belief of much higher rank than a religion because it has been tested to an incredible level of precision in comparison. Then you can choose where you put the cursor of what you believe in and how much trust you put behind each.

[-] brem@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 hours ago

Quantum physics are to relatively as religion is to faith?

[-] oce@jlai.lu 1 points 2 hours ago

I would not say so, quantum physics and Relativity are both physical theories with strong experimental proof in their own domains, very small scales and very big scales. They are both extremely higher on the scale of trustworthy believes than any religion could be. I think most physicists believe quantum physics has solider proof than Relativity thanks to the enormous statistics from experiments that we can control like the LHC. For (General) Relativity, we kind of have to do with what the universe sends us.
They are both systems of beliefs, like religions are, but with a much higher level of proof, so physicists have some skeptical faith in both of those theories.

[-] brem@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 hours ago

But even tested to the most extreme limits, it takes faith to even believe in the highest and most true results of scientific method.

So really it just boils down to how you use your time.

Much like a quarter in an arcade machine; from the 'Simpsons: Arcade Edition' times of lore.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 19 hours ago

I disagree that established science requires belief

[-] brem@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 hours ago

It requires belief in proven results. Those who are unwilling to learn won't learn, and there is nothing that can be done to change this.

[-] oce@jlai.lu 1 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Newton's laws were established science for centuries and they were proven to be not as good as Relativity some centuries later. Given that there is some incompatibility between quantum physics and Relativity, and the dark energy/matter mystery, it is likely that the current physics theories are also not completely correct. Even if we solve that, verification will always be limited to a certain degree of precision. So we will never be able to prove that a theory is fully correct, we can only try to prove that it is wrong indefinitely. But we can have a rational belief based on their degree of verification and make bridges, computers and medicine with them.

[-] Bahnd@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

Our understanding of it does, because that is how we choose to interprit the printed rules we think the universe is governed by.

How the universe actually works is anyones guess, but we can make an educated and informed attempt.

Religion is the opium of the people

[-] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

This quote is always taken out of context. It originally wasn’t supposed to be about how people are “stupefied” by religion, it was supposed to be a direct comparison of how Tsarist Russia used the Orthodox religion as a method of control, in the same way that the British used opium as a method of control over China.

It was supposed to be a commentary about state power in a specific time and place, not a condemnation of religion in general.

[-] xta@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Most people aren’t ready to be unplugged. Their minds struggle to process the kind of reality the scientific method has revealed, truths that are often counterintuitive, unsettling, and far removed from everyday intuition.

Even something as fundamental as the certainty of death, the idea that consciousness may simply cease, can be too much to fully confront. For many, that is not just uncomfortable, it is existentially destabilizing. So they turn to belief systems, often inherited early in life, that provide structure, meaning, and emotional security.

That does not necessarily make those systems wrong, but they can discourage questioning when taken as absolute truth. It is easier to accept a fixed narrative than to sit with uncertainty. Very few people are willing to seriously question what lies beyond their own beliefs, about reality, the human condition, or the universe itself.

So yeah, most people are not ready to be unplugged. Many will defend the very frameworks that keep them from questioning, because those frameworks are what make reality feel stable and livable.

Satan is like... so much cooler than God. Sorry not sorry

If you're like... bored on a Friday night... you're not calling Jesus, you know what I mean? You hang out with Jesus at the soup kitchen, but Satan? Satan's knocking on your window at 3am, Dodge Challenger on your lawn, beer in one hand, keys in the other like "You wanna take it for a spin, bro? I know a cool party downtown and the bartender owes me his soul, so we drink for free", you know what I mean? You don't come across a Satan all that often. You must cherish Satan, you know? Enjoy him while he's still around. Cause Satan? He goes where the fire's burning, you know? One day he might be gone and you'll be kicking yourself.

[-] postcapitalism@lemmy.today 34 points 1 day ago

I dunno, Jesus is all about turning water into wine, flipping tables, chillin with hoes, and generally being nice to people. Sounds like some chill surfer dude energy

[-] tomiant@piefed.social 3 points 4 hours ago

He hanged out with prostitutes and drunks, I'd kick it with Jay man.

[-] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

You're forgetting the end, where He comes back leading a Holy Army and murders everybody! The exact opposite of chill surfer dude energy.

I always got lefty Redneck who's just a tad bit unstable vibes personally. Reminder he spent like a day crafting a whip for his table flipping excursion, also the whole sell your cloak and buy a sword quote. Also while the term carpenter is generally accepted broadly the ancient Greek term could also be used for general laborers, which seems more aligned with Rednecks to me. Well that or some Mexican-Americans I've known, but regardless you are either being called a bastard or a pendejo.

Also, I can have a gay relationship with Satan to get our buttbaby delivered by christmas critters

[-] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

Love this without the drinking and driving. But still love this.

[-] tomiant@piefed.social 1 points 3 hours ago

The drinking and driving was the only thing I appreciated with this.

And let's hit a few kids and granny on the way to the bar, I wanna see how this car hold's up.

I'm just fooling around, cause your post is reallyentertaining to read, but I'm guessing you're american if your idea of fun implies a car.

For the uninitiated: The Satanic Temple are the politically left-leaning ones who use satire to expose the hypocrisy of Christian fundamentalism, whereas the Church of Satan are basically ancaps who believe in magic.
