Piracy is good and you should do more of it. Use https://aniwave.to/ and https://4anime.gg/ for streaming, and https://nyaa.si/ for torrents. Piracy is the only means of digital protest that audiences have to fight poor worker treatment.
I saw her watching it on TV earlier today and thought "Wait is that Shield Hero, that looks like Shield Hero, but surely she wouldn't..."
Sadly it's terminal.
That sounds super uncomfortable. Had some classes with a guy that recommended I watch GATE years ago. Was real cool when I realized the series oscillates between fellating the JDF and ogling teenage harem girls, definitely lowered my opinion of him.
Yeah, my brothet inlaw asked me to download it because his student recommended it. It was just colonialism japanese stargate edition.🙃
Its not even good by r/anime standards, terrible reputation. Just link him some reddit thread and move on.

My roommate's a woman, which may just be the worst part
"Good ones" that seek approval from chuds are often really, really in deep.
IDK, I have some "socially progressive but not deep into politics"-type friends who said they liked it back when it initially released. I think a lot of people just got engrossed by "pretty animations" and collective hype and just take the "the protagonist 'learns to be better' and 'forms a bond' with the slave girl" plot point at face value. Like, a lot of people don't realize the gross framing at work because the story appears to be condemning the bad behavior (even if it's in a dishonest manner). The backlash to the slavery fetish genre wasn't as strong at that point so I guess the incel vibes were less obvious back then.
That being said, a lot of the people who are still into the fanbase at this point are probably creeps who are into the slavery.
r/anime clowns on it as well. It's basically the RAG but for isekai now.
just like...check their bedroom at some point, you know? make sure nobody's chained to a wall in there. no rush, just something to keep in the back of your mind when you get a minute
Somehow get them to watch One Piece instead
What's wrong with it? I've never seen it and know basically nothing about it
It's an anime about how slavery and sexual assault are good.
It has a score of 8/10 on MAL lmao https://myanimelist.net/anime/35790/Tate_no_Yuusha_no_Nariagari
Once again asking for a weeb gulag
Oh I definitely do not want to watch that then
The """hero""" gets falsely accused of
CW: SA
rape
and then spends the series building a slave harem
That sounds horrible
It's one of those anime that does slavery apologia, which sadly became a trend.

Stalin should have kept going until he reached Japan from the East
Is this the anime we have to blame for the spread of that garbage?
It's one of them at least, there were some prior to it too but they were outright porn. Shield Hero was one of the earlier ones to do it in a not-explicitly porn context tmk.
The ancient magus bride was kind of slavery apologia as a barely disguised kink. Think that predates shield hero.
Ehhh I disagree, the slavery bit is almost entirely dropped after the first chapters. It's mainly used to represent just how much Chise loathed herself and Elias' lack of human understanding, both of which are then the main character developments of the series. It's meant to be the lowest point for both characters that they then get out of through the relationships they build, not just with each other (some early chapters make it clear that the two alone is an unhealthy relationship that will probably kill Chise) but also with their friends.
Admittedly this reading is only made clear at the end of the first arc though, and I can vaguely see how you might get a fetishy reading from it (in the sense of slavery leading to her being "fixed," since that's a huge ick). But I still don't think it's nearly close to the same level as Shield Hero outright arguing slavery is perfectly fine if you're in a pro-slavery world and the person consents.
In addition to what everyone else said, the main antagonist is basically an incel's stereotype of a woman (someone who uses sexuality to manipulate men and also lies to hurt them). The protagonist changes to "Bitch"/"Whore" via some magical gamer shenanigans, and not only is it framed as a justifiable punishment for her actions, but the fanbase frequently uses those terms to refer to her (check out the sub if you want proof).
Also, in the source material
CW: extremely messed up depiction of SV
the protagonist arranges to have her forcibly married to an evil king who magically tortures and rapes all of his wives to death. This is also framed as a justifiable punishment for her actions.
So yeah, the author is basically a turbo-misogynist.
Tell him you already finished Hamilton which is the same thing
John brown this slavery supporter
aaaa
Give her something actually good to watch that's at a sort of entry-level.
say no and recommend she watch the executioner and her way of life (isekai about how the correct response from a young woman when a shitty dude gets isekai'd into your world is to murder him and have gay sex instead)
death by gay
I watched the first episode when it aired and thought "wow finally an isekai that sorta breaks the stereotype of the protagonist being the good guy hero" just for it to fall right back into that stereotype one or two episodes later...
I was mildly interested in the idea of the protag being stuck with a shield and not able to use anything else, forcing them to rely on others. Then they just get demon powers and become the most powerful person anyway 🤷
Ask if they've ever seen I'm a Virgo. It's a really good hero show.
It doesn't condone slavery or elaborate incel fever dreams against cancel culture; it just contrives a fiction setting where slavery and elaborate incel fever dreams against cancel culture are cool and good.
Time to reeducate
