If a single person on that base has a spine then they'll throw every ICE who steps foot on into a jail.

[-] 20cello@lemmy.world 25 points 3 months ago

Pretty sure they won't though

[-] aramis87@fedia.io 13 points 3 months ago

I keep saying that the cops should be civil forfeiting every vehicle, mask, and piece of tacticool gear ICE uses.

[-] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 3 months ago

Shell game. Now who's ICE? I think ACAB still applies in Minneapolis. It's just that the Feds have stepped on local cop things.

George Floyd was in Minneapolis when he was choked to death by a pig.

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 8 points 3 months ago

That pig went to prison and got stabbed a bunch, at least.

[-] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 months ago

I hope it still hurts. I hope it reminds him every day of George Floyd and what he did in the name the "law."

You think people who think it’s okay to kill others if it means escaping poverty are going to care?

The military has never been on your side.

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -2 points 3 months ago

I tolerate your presence solely because you're anti-Tankie in some contexts, but I've never had a positive interaction with you.

[-] Tippy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 months ago

You're upset at them because they correctly stated that the US military are not superheroes coming to save us all? There is literal historic precedent of the US military firing on US citizens for lawfully protesting. And besides any of that, have you ever spoken to someone who was enlisted or is in the guard? I closely know one combat vet who is a leftist and one officer who is left of center. They have both straight up told me that the idea of the military stopping any of this or fracturing over Trump is a fantasy. Outside of these two people, every military member I've met has been proudly MAGA.

Also, not sure who you think you are that you get to "tolerate" the presence of anyone on an online forum that you aren't an admin of just because you get upset at reality. Use the block button, debate in good faith, or keep scrolling if you dont agree. You aren't the cyberpolice or our collective mother, go touch grass.

I work side by side with the Space Force, so I know a lot of military members.

The truth is it is all over the map. There's a big difference between the branches of the military. There's a big difference between enlisted and officers. There's also a TON of civilians doing work behind the scenes, and most of them are left of center.

The issue is less what the members of the military believe or think is right/wrong, but more how much they will tolerate while keeping their head down for the paycheck they need. I was in the Pentagon the day after the election last year when it was clear Trump had won. It was like a funeral. People were walking around depressed and quiet. Most of them were absolutely terrified about what that election meant. But I guarantee you 90% of those people are either still there or were laid off last year (either voluntarily with 6mo pay or against their will).

The laws as they were written, as they were passed by democratically elected representatives, empower the military to do something about all of this. If followed faithfully, they should.

Arguing against that because you distrust any form of authority is asinine. Arguing that there should not be a US Military is childish and moronic.

[-] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

What kind of ignorant twat points to the laws in this situation? Have you not been paying attention the last year or more? Law is dead in America. Your president’s a 34-count felon. Like… Jesus fuck. Wake up.

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -3 points 3 months ago

The fuck are you suggesting we do if not hold them accountable?

[-] Gold_E_Lox@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

i tried to write a comment, but you are so oblivious it makes it very difficult to even type something you might understand and could respond to in good faith.

i wish you the best, and hope you can learn further about the atrocities of your country. And how only dismantling the institutions that hold the power could solve any of these issues.

[-] Tippy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

Please quote the part of my comment where I said that the military is unable to follow their oaths (if they cared or weren't indoctrinated), where I said I distrust all authority, and that I believe the military should not exist. I'll wait.

Building a ridiculous strawman to rage at doesn't refute any of what I or the other user said. Though I suppose we should be careful to not to shake your fragile worldview lest it breaks and you stop tolerating us.

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -2 points 3 months ago

You picked up this conversation in defence of Deceptichum. You not knowing what their statement or stance is would be your failure.

[-] Tippy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

Here's their statement and stance. Comments are publicly viewable and interactable by everyone on Lemmy, it's how this discussion is happening. Seems like all of this should be obvious.

I didn't come to their defense so much as read your bizarre response and felt like responding, which I am free to do on this forum. The fact that I agree with their view on this issue also isn't that notable, given that its an incredibly common one for anyone with a modicum of ability to understand past and current events in US history, especially on a leftist leaning platform.

[-] danc4498@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

I’m not sure that’s how military bases work.

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 16 points 3 months ago

It is. Unauthorized personnel and those who pose a risk to national security, normal military operations, or privacy can be denied access.

They have every legal right to deny access to civilian ICE.

[-] HelluvaKick@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

From what I understand from my idiot friends from high school who racked up duis, every military base is also a dui checkpoint and they won't hesitate to bust your ass.

Maybe this is a gold thing for ICE to use, you know they're all blowing 1.6 at least

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 3 points 3 months ago

Maybe Hegseth will show up in person, then they'll bust him too.

[-] DougHolland@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Nothing is accomplished by such daydreams. It's been in the news that Secretary of Defense Hegseth has approved this atrocity, so these won't be "unauthorized personnel."

[-] danc4498@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Who is “They”? Every single member of the military? The officers? The base commander? The family members that live on the base?

Problem is, the military as a whole is in support of whatever the administration says. So nobody on the base will have the right or capability of arresting anybody from ICE.

[-] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 months ago

If a single person on that base has a spine

I prefer "when pigs fly" but you do you

[-] ZC3rr0r@piefed.ca 20 points 3 months ago

Just totally normal stuff here folks, nothing to see. Just move along and don't realize a couple of protestors are being treated like a goddamn violent insurrection.

The folks in charge are pouring all the gasoline they can find onto the fire in hopes of it actually escalating into a war zone.
